  1. You can tell JTS98 has been sitting about desperately waiting for any wee minor flare-up to happen somewhere in the country so he can jump on here with some weird "I told you so" take about how everybody should be locked in their house until the already minuscule number of cases is reduced to zero.

  5. Incredible piece of business by yourselves to sign Jakubiak. He was a pivotal figure in Obika's up turn in form last season and someone i really wanted us to push the boat out on and sign. Goodwin declared we couldn't afford him as his wages were astronomical. I've seen a lot of shite posted about Mullen and him 'bagging double figures for Dundee' but Jak is the one that genuinely could fire 10/15 goals for you this year no problem. All the best to him and yourselves for this season.

  9. I said as much on the pubwatch thread that the 'rules' have been written by folk who have never actually been to a pub in their lives. What did they expect people to do, have a few pints at 2 on a Saturday afternoon and then go back to the house because their allocated time was up?

  10. Yeah, I thought that far from looking uninterested last season, Hemmings was just totally frustrated in being asked to play like a hold-the-ball-up targetman type, when he was getting precious little support, nothing created for him, and sometimes spent 20-30 minute spells where the only time the ball came near him was when he was trying to beat Centre-backs in the air from our goal kicks. I thought he actually run himself ragged at times and over-achieved in a role that doesn't suit his game at all. An enormous contrast to his first spell here, but I think that's entirely down to a difference in the standard of player along side him, how the team was playing, and how he was being asked to contribute, not down to a lack of effort from the guy himself. I'd take him back for a third spell in a heartbeat if I thought we had the team to actually use him the way we did the first time around.

  13. What about people who did give a shit about the attainment gap before and are concerned that the SQA and Scottish Government’s approach has just cemented and baked in that gap? Some of the responses here highlight the absolute worst of Scottish political debate. Yes, some unionists have jumped on this as a stick to beat the SNP (that’s just politics, and would be the exact same the other way round). But there are quite clearly serious issues at hand here that have been mishandled and - whisper it - you are actually allowed to criticise the Scottish Government without being a Union Flag-waving British nationalist. The way in which some SNP voters take any criticism of the Scottish Government as a personal affront is one of the weirdest and most unhelpful aspects of Scottish politics. And I say that as someone who is in favour of Scottish independence.

  14. Quote from the Manager on the website - wonder if it's aimed at anyone who has recently left the club?? “The most important thing above all else is we want people who are fully committed to the football club. I’m happy that the players and staff who are now at the club have shown that this is the case.”

  20. Wasn't going to bother commenting on the boardroom changes but its ate away at me for just long enough. If GD and the new appointees outlive the MSG then fair enough, comment ont heir respective merits then. What we currently have is the equivalent of a brutal manager constantly signing shite, getting humped every week, but rather than resigning and letting someone else try, he changes the ball boys and the mascot every so often. Yawn. Gies a shout when they finally do the right thing. Wouldn't want to be hanging by the balls waiting for it

  24. Fully realise this is a heavy nerd type post but I see WhoScored? is publishing full stats for the Premiership games. A comparison of touches between Laidlaw and Carson is quite a picture. 14 of Carson's 35 touches were outside his box. 5 of Lang's 6 dribbles were successful. Hastie lost possession 7 times. More than anyone else on the park. Also...

Allan Stadium", in memory of a lifelong supporter who contributed massively to the club physically, emotionally and financially. We would like to thank Hamish's wife (and fellow Glens supporter) Elizabeth for facilitating this very fitting memorial.

  30. It would be, but I don't think those fears are founded at all based on our current squad. We could literally put out a good starting 11 from players that we had last season when we finished 3rd. We have more continuity from last season to this season than any time in recent memory. There's also no way Murray is going to risk his managerial career by having a full team of untried youngsters. I think the club have realised that bringing in talented midfielders and attackers will only work amongst a solid experienced squad which is why they have kept the likes of Hutton, Crighton, Forydce, Carrick and Gallagher. In addition to younger 'known quantities' like McCann, McDonald, McKay and Kerr. Even with Roy, Thomson and O'Reilly we know pretty much what we are getting. It seems like there is a good team spirit and hopefully that means the new guys will be incorporated into that. With Partick and Falkirk in the league it would be a mammoth task to win the league with our usual signing policy. Falkirk were rotten for a lot of last season and still finished 5 points ahead of us. Given the numerous false dawns we have had I'm a bit wary and understand anyone who is a bit sceptical. But the only way we will get out this league is trying something a bit different. Given the players we've kept from last season at worst we should be finishing around the same position as last season even if we didn't play any of the new guys, but there is a chance these players could add the quality needed to allow us to challenge. My bottom line is always that it has to be in our budget, if we can afford it then I'm all for it.

  43. The government absolutely should be getting involved in this process given the tone deaf and arrogant way the "independent body" has handled itself here. Refusing to make their methodology public until after the grades came out is indefensible, as is completely stonewalling legitimate concerns raised by headteachers, teachers, students and MSPs about how their planned approach would disproportionately affect bright pupils from deprived areas. Given that those concerns later proved to be right on the money, I would expect any government to be launching an investigation into it, not brass necking it in the way that Sturgeon and Swinney did today. Sturgeon grew up in Dreghorn and went to Greenwood Academy, for f**k's sake. She would have been in exactly the position of some of these students who have been fucked over purely on the basis of their school's previous performance.

  47. While this is true, that option wouldn't have involved fucking over pupils for the prior performance of their schools which they have absolutely no control over, inevitably doing far more damage to pupils in poorer areas. It's not about managing the political story, it's about what's right and wrong and this utter shambles is indisputably wrong.
