  1. Safe bet that anyone who calls Nicola Sturgeon Jimmy Krankie turns out to be a bit of a c**t. Not for that comparison per se but just always seems to work out that way.

  4. DUSF have handed over £100000 to the club, ArabTrust raises money and pays towards youth development, we aren't heading for admin. RR fans have raised funds to keep club going. This cash was just to help with what was felt to be costs that were unjustified and unbudgeted for. It wasn't just for one club either, the cash helps pay fees that all three have to pay, added to the Cove and Rover's fans efforts it's over £68000. Well done to all involved.

  6. He's right you know, this is fucking disgusting Never mind the 10,000 seat rule. Tunnels lining up with the halfway line should be one of the main criteria for Premiership eligibility. I'd also throw in no stands with pillars, grass pitches only, no grounds that aren't 4 sided, and no grounds with shite legroom.

  7. There are a fair few of us who have posted on here for a long time (many years longer than you) and the reasons we continue to do so are various but include the undoubted fact that we prefer the idea of talking about football in a multi-club forum rather than the echo-chambers that are FF and RM. Most of the P&B Rangers supporters hold no truck with either sectarianism or bigotry and we're, mostly, here for the sport. Otherwise we'd be on other forums. Do we as a club still have a problem with hate speech from fans? Of course. Does it stop me following said club? No, of course not.. You support a team for the sport not for the fans. I have to credit Goldson for speaking out and I know every Rangers poster on here will agree with him.

After Blackburn went 4-3 ahead and Boro managed to score at the same time me and my workmate decided to cash out Won £10, 558 between us for a tenner each. Take turns to put on a coupon but this our first win this season. Have done allright since we started a few years ago.

  12. What Steve Clarke highlighted and objected to a couple of years ago, came at Ibrox in a pretty routine cup tie. It also certainly did not emanate from a tiny minority. The overt Britishness of the club, manifest in the poppy nonsense, the union flag design in shirts and the prominence of Orange in kits, is all intertwined, deliberate and cynical. It's why when situations like this latest one arise, they're not incidental. The club has a particular, cultivated appeal for those who wish to project such sentiment. Implying that other clubs have similar issues, is to hide from the reality. Rangers attracts such types because it's designed to.

  14. IDK about anyone else but immediately stamping down on Holocaust denial views with unanimous approbation is something that should be enforced within a functioning civil society - as opposed to the usual, tedious handful of people taking a 'well, actually...' stance on the ridiculous grounds of free speech. Those who think that a proven act of genocide of any kind is a great parlour game topic about the limits of free speech should have their public platforms removed as far as possible and probably put into a high chair and bib while we're at it.

  18. Just a note - the proposed "one place for all results/tables" has now been set up (senior/junior/amateur/welfare/women). I've set up spreadsheets for each association, and I've written the code in Python to pull results from spreadsheets once they are entered, and make webpages with tables/results for each league. I've also put in an automatically generated "form guide" showing results of last 6 games (most recent first), and a value between 0 and 100 based on this, along with a points per game column. There's a randomly generated "example" league at the bottom to show how things would look when the results are entered. Hopefully once the season starts I'll be able to keep this updated. http://scotscores.theroonba.com/

  19. The whole thing is quite simple. McLean has got sick of the trolls and abuse and has basically fired back at them, at their own level. Having done so, he surrenders any high ground in the debate. That's a choice he made, has every right to make and one that we have all probably made at one point or another, to just lower ourselves and rip the pish instead of pointlessly engaging someone who has no intention of actual debate (all of the gammons). What he did was childish and inflammatory. It's pretty clear why he did it and that he took It into "both sides as bad as the other" territory. Thus, James McLean is not the correct battleground for any sensible debate over the merits and shortcomings of the IRA or the British Army. That debate can be had without facebook poppy freaks and idiot footballers muddying the waters.

  20. Whilst I'm gutted to see Grant go, I think McStay would actually be harder to replace. Grant is the better player, particularly at this stage of their careers, but ultimately he's a sitting midfielder. We should be capable of finding another player who can anchor the midfield, make some simple linking passes, and hopefully trackback quicker than Grant was able to (as his pace will probably hold him back reaching a really high level). They won't be Grants quality obviously, but it's generally an easier position to fill in the team. McStay is a frustrating player, and I get why some don't like him, but he has a great engine, good body strength (when he feels like using it), and crucially, the ability to link up with Goodwillie. Sometimes it feels like he needs someone to get in his face and wind him up a bit before a game as he can be a bit slow to start at times but, he's a proper box-to-box midfielder, takes the ball off defenders in tough situations (even if he then does too much with it), and gets forward too. It's just a harder role to fill than a sitting midfielder. Like Lamont, McStay probably needs to add a few more goals to his game, but it still feels like his potential is massive if he can just fine tune his play a little. If we lose McStay as well, then I will start to be a little worried. Although we were in League Two (it's not like we have much more money now anyway) in the 10 years prior to our promotion season, our central midfield was by far and away our biggest issue. Aside from a non-injured Dylan Easton, I can't think of many I'd have taken ahead of McStay.

  21. So - as I'm a man of my word - I went for a walk where I had *zero* chance of meeting anyone - I went for 2 of the more remote hills in the eastern mountains, Beinn Bhreac and Leathad an Taobhain. Beinn Bhreac is about 25km from the nearest road, so i decided on a bit of bikepacking from Calvine to make it possible to link these two together. It was a decent evening for the long cycle up Glen Bruar and there was still plenty of light left to find a decent (if a bit slopey camp spot) - some food and a couple of drams and I conked out. I was up early this morning as given the amount of pathless bog hopping in store, I wasn't entirely sure how long it was going to take. The first part of the climb was on a stalkers path that lasted for a couple of KMs and that was it. I had been dreading the next part but it was as dry underfoot as it will ever be and i made decent progress - although it still took a long time to even get the first look at Beinn Bhreac. The summit was just a wee cairn but the view was brilliant - no signs of paths, buildings, wind farms - which is incredibly rare, so it was worth the big effort to get out there. The next part was more of an unknown as I don't think these hills are linked very often - it was hard going but the weather was decent and for a peat bog, it was actually looking quite nice as the bog cotton was everywhere and by staying on the highest ground, I missed the worst of the peat hags. After a quick lunch on the 2nd Corbett, the walk out was along the Minigaig for 12km or so, an old drove road, which was an interesting walk for a path geek as I've never been along any part of it before. The bike out was a bit of a slog after 27km of hard walking but it was quick at least - really enjoyed the whole thing....

  26. An update plus the initial piece by ProPublica & The Detroit Free Press https://www.propublica.org/article/the-michigan-supreme-court-is-reviewing-the-case-of-a-teenager-incarcerated-after-not-doing-online-schoolwork-during-the-pandemic https://www.propublica.org/article/a-teenager-didnt-do-her-online-schoolwork-so-a-judge-sent-her-to-juvenile-detention Few key takeaways: Grace's case is being reviewed Monday. Grace had special support services/measures in place at school due to her ADHD & mood disorder. These include teachers checking in regulary to make sure she is on task & to clarify any material if needed. Also allowances for extra time to complete assignments & tests. These supports are currently not in place. School was a stabalising force in Grace's life & had a near perfect attendance record. Grace's teacher stated she was not out of alignment with most of her other students. Grace was active in projects both in school & the community. Since the theft & assault charges Grace has stayed out of trouble. An order from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was in in place that no one should be sent to juvenile unless posing a 'substansial & immediate safety risk to others'. The breach clearly doesn't meet this criteria. 42% of 4800 juvenile cases through the Oakland Courts from January 2016 to June 2020 involved black youth who make up 15% of the county's youth population. A report by the Sentencing project found that in Michigan as a whole black youth are incarerated at rate four times vs their white counterparts. My own interpretation of the case is that the violation of the probabtion was brought on by Grace having stability & support structures which were clearly doing good removed & struggling to adjust to a new norm. If we were in normal times no violation would have occured. And not to state the bloody obvious but a non submital of homework is not a violation that shows a 'substantial & immediate risk to others'.

  28. The IRA were responsible for Omagh amongst other atrocities, ergo, him wearing a balaclava to wind up folk shows that he thinks it's all a bit of a laugh and a subject that can be used light heartedly. McLean's credibility automatically dropped as soon as he pulled the balaclava stunt whether people think he had any or not. Of course there were people who supported him and his beliefs and then automatically lost respect for him as soon as he posted that pic. People seem to be making the mistake of thinking you're either on McLean's side or you're a gammon. There's a massive amount of ground in between there. People also don't understand that you can agree with the IRA's motives but not their methods. Obviously the abuse and criticism he got before his post was out of order but he can have no-one to blame but himself since he posted the photo so to be now crying about the abuse and comparing it to black players getting abused for the colour of their skin is quite frankly pathetic.

  29. I'm all for weighing in to the Jambos at any given opportunity, but even I'm toiling with the relevance of her perceived aesthetic qualities as a benchmark of her performance as heid bummer at Hearts. Plus, her patter gives more than a few opportunities for a pop - if you hold tight for a couple of days I think it might be open season.

  33. It’s entirely up to the individual in wearing a remembrance Poppy or not, and understandable given James McClean’s background and where he grew up that he doesn’t. It shouldn’t be a big deal to anyone else, it’s his personal choice. The Poppy bandwagon rolls into town every year and has somewhat grown out of proportion and shape from its original intentions for many. The unnecessary attention and undue abuse McClean receives isn’t just down to his button hole preference however. His most recent ‘history lesson’ delivered to his small children (eek), albeit intended as a joke was clearly a deliberate wind up towards his detractors. In staging this little stunt though, the same respect and understanding he expects, wasn’t offered to the people of London, Birmingham & Manchester etc where he plays professional football (as mentioned back up the thread). Ordinary punters in the stands who may also have experienced the violent deaths of innocents, in this case at the hands of an organisation he seemingly offers tacit support to? It’s difficult to have any sympathy with the guy if he can’t quite see the hypocrisy of his actions here. I can’t see how he would be treated any differently in any other country he chose to ply his trade in, under similar circumstances. Imagine the reaction of most fans in Spain, Italy or Germany for example, if a player (who plays for another nation) made a calculated stance of turning his back on the national flag and anthem whilst visiting another country and as a representative of the club? It’s going to cause a stir isn’t it? As for a comparison with BLM (‘where’s my attention’?) was that just another intended joke? On a more positive note, he’s a decent player with a good engine and who most supporters wouldn’t mind seeing in their line up on his work rate alone.

  34. He gets pelters from folk that jump on to sides without looking into the details of the argument... Like you often do. That doesn't justify it, and instead just reflects badly on you. And you and a few others have regularly minimised the effects of Internet pile-ons by comparing it in mild terms to 'being free to call him an arsehole'. I'm guessing folk that do this have never experienced it.

  40. "But the point is, no one here is discussing someone thinking what a laugh Omagh was". The British Army comment is relevant in this situation imo, as their murdering of protestors in McClean's home city of Derry is one of, if not the only reason he refuses to wear one and is justifiably vocal about it. A lot of the criticism McClean gets more than smacks of "Why doesn't this uppity fucking kafflick know his place?" I think it's somewhat revisionist to suggest that McClean's views on the poppy were treated with any sort of respect or credibility before the stunt, certainly in both maintream and social media. He was getting death threats as soon as he first refused to wear one.

I'd be raging and utterly embarrassed at my club trying to squirm their way out of relegation had we been bottom of the league when this whole mess kicked off. 44. No, that's the reason why the immense resources of the industry are being thrown at producing a vaccine. That you think that having a faster turnaround time is somehow a safety flaw rather than the entire fucking point of the exercise is moronic. Perhaps you could enlighten us as to your theory on this first: which component part of the vaccine is more likely to be unsafe as a result of current efforts? Be extremely specific. You seem to think that they're just cobbling something up in a backstreet meth lab, as opposed to applying already proven processes to produce viral vaccines. Except that I didn't issue out a 100% assurance about the safety of every single vaccine dose champ - try reading for the sake of comprehension. There is absolutely no reason to doubt that the already acknowledged and highly rare side effects of vaccinations will occur with global vaccination; that doesn't even remotely make it unsafe though, in the same way that all the vaccines that we currently have are safe. And I really couldn't care less whether you agree with this stance or not, because it is based on a straightforward understanding of the immense benefits brought to humanity by 200 years of successful vaccine science, while your hot take is based on nothing more than your bloviating 'gut feelings'. Which are - as ever - irrelevant.
