  3. I found what I thought was a diamond on the street and I took it into the bakers to get it checked out. I asked them "Do you think this is a real diamond" and the guy behind the counter said "You'd probably be better off asking in the jewellers next door". He didn't tell me no, so I reckon that means there's a good chance it's a diamond.

  7. Gonna open up here's bit and it's not really something I talk about but I feel it's pertinent. Reading about your mother and her relationship with alcohol really mirrored my own dad's. He had a really good job with the council, went from working class to middle class and had a lovely home and although he split with my mum we still had a very good relationship. He was also a drinker, easier for a man especially in the 80s/90s as that was the norm, few pints at lunchtime, or after work was the norm. This carried on and slowly got worse, a few pints after work turned into a few pints then off home for a bottle of wine or two. When he was around 57 he was pensioned off, with a fair amount of cash which he could easily have survived off but it was the feeling of having no purpose that got to him. He volunteered helping young unemployed folk get ready for jobs but that only lasted so long so he'd spend all his time in the pub, most days from 11am. He wasn't some kind of pished stained jakie and still had a big house and wife at home but it got worse and worse. To an extent I ignored it and never really thought it was as bad as it was so we'd still regularly meet at the weekend for a few beers to watch the football. Looking back I should've stepped in and said enough was enough but you never think the worst thing will happen and to an extent I probably was an enabler because I was blinkered to how bad his alcoholism was as I only saw him at the weekends when he was the life and soul of the pub that everyone knew and liked. Anyway, eventually we managed to persuade him to go to hospital for treatment but it was too late and sadly he passed away at 59. To this day I regret not doing more. All I can say is do everything you can to make you're mother realise what she's doing to herself before it's too late. I'm not sayin you already are and alcoholics are impossible to deal with but there's always still time.

  10. All you're really telling us is that Hibs are beating the snot of Hearts in public relations terms, as well as in the league, and in the transfer market. This is what happens when you're owned by a media-savvy international television mogul, instead of a fossilized seventies relic who gets her understanding of the general public from talking to the enclosed merchant school golf-and-rugby crowd that makes up the Edinburgh business classes. But establishment club, amirite?

  13. The WoSFL have confirmed this afternoon that the clubs have voted to go to a 16-team top league for season 2021-22, so there will be 7 teams relegated to tier 7 at the end of the coming season. The tier 6 league will be called the "Premier Division", and the other leagues formed after the conference season will be called "1st Division", "2nd Division" and "3rd Division".

  15. My mum was similar although she could go for several months or the odd year without a drink. Things went quickly down hill after I moved out and started my own family. Got to the stage that I didn't know what state she would be in when popping in with the kids. Begged her to get help which she never did. Think it was the constant lies that really got to me. Finally gave her an ultimatum, she could either stop drinking or I would never let her see her grand children again. She stopped that same day, got herself to the gp and arranged counselling, she's never looked back since. I always remember to tell her how proud I am of her every now and then

  16. Just heard that a lassie that I did outpatient addiction treatment with has died. Must have only been 23/24, withdrawal (or worse) while in the jail, just saw the official notice and she looked like hell, head shaven etc. This reminds me why I’m where I am doing what I’m doing, getting better (I’m now even sponsoring a couple of guys) It’s a fucking cruel and nasty disease and I thank f**k I’m still healthy and I thank f**k every day I go to bed sober (will soon be six months) Seems especially relevant after some of the discussion on another thread today (things you want to share.... maybe?)

  22. Pish. You mean the wage deferrals, don't you? This may come as a bit of a surprise to you, but a club doesn't have to run like a Carry On film unfolding day by day, drama after drama. Hibs have stated when they will pay the deferred wages back - if this doesn't happen I'll pay £100 quid to the Hearts charity of your choice. There's about 3 or so on your creditors list from your recent admin event so it should be easy for you to select one.

  24. Alcoholics are impossible to deal with. Until and unless they admit they have a problem and look for help themselves you're banging your head off a brick wall. Sad but true. Some people don't drink, some people can drink and some people can't drink. Until you start drinking yourself you don't know which of the latter two categories you fall into.

  27. C'mon man...you've already said that the players who said on social media that they "refused to take part" weren't actually "invited" in the first place...so it follows that those were the already fairly fit players and that the ones who did attend with the manager & other coaches were the ones considered to be unfit by the management team. At the time of the "invite to train" this was entirely against guidance to clubs. So tell us who issued the invite ?

  28. Why the f**k do actual football supporters hope that other clubs than their own go into administration? Except for Sevco, of course. As far as the Dundee news is concerned, I think it's a headline with nothing out of the ordinary, in present circumstances, in it.

  33. Dunfermline have at no point said they didn't have money. The JRS is cost neutral anyway. Even if they didn't have money they could have extended the furlough. They chose not to due to legal advice otherwise. They were far from the only club to do so and several clubs received the same advice and acted accordingly but Dunfermline tend to get it in the neck as they were the first and stuck their head above the parapet to say so. As far as I can gather the split between clubs who extended furlough and those who didn't isn't that far off 50/50. Now that advice may or may not be wrong, we'll probably never know. But they took professional advice and acted on it accordingly. Ayr for instance had one of their directors read the regulations and decide he thought it would be ok. He may be right but the moral high ground isn't always the safest place to be (see Dundee FC). Rangers were given professional advice once that EBT's were fine and legal. It didn't ultimately work out too well for them. The rest of it, I agree with you. It's nuts. Hearts and HIbs asking players to take wage cuts while spending 6 fig sums on a new players / managers is immoral in my opinion. If I was a player being asked to take a wage cut I wouldn't be best pleased. Dundee I have some sympathy for in that the insurance they had was supposed to specifically cover this situation and now the insurers are trying to weasel their way out of it.

Footlong steak and cheese on hearty Italian, toasted, with southwest sauce. An array of crisps, juice and cookie with a side of meatballs. For £9. Delivered. Saturday has started well.

  41. Ok. My mum bullied my older brother a lot for some reason. Not sure why or when it started but I first recall it being a thing when we moved house in 1995. It got progressively worse over the years and he tried to spend as much time as possible away from her. My parents were friends with a family who lived down the road, as my dad served in the navy with the husband of that couple, and I suspect that this one of the main reasons we moved to where we did. They had a son and we all went on holiday a couple of times. Both times my older brother travelled and stayed with them. I knew the bullying really upset him. He used to be a really good rugby player to the extent he had trials with professional teams. The bullying really fucked him, knocked his confidence and he stopped playing. Looking back it's obvious he was in a bad place. He then meets a woman who is nice to him. She treats him well and they get on. They start going out and he sees a way to escape and be away from my mum. It should be acknowledged that my brother and my former partner genuinely liked and cared for each other, so I don't want to do them a disservice. I think in a way she was a bit of a mother figure. Not in a dreadful way, but a deep psychological way. He stayed because he loved her. Also her kids were, and are, really sound people, so he probably enjoyed living with them. I haven't spoken to him about this yet, but it must really hurt that he doesn't see them anymore and isn't really a part of their life anymore. He pretty much was a father to the youngest. I really hope he isn't trying to replace that hurt with his new partner. I've met her and she's really nice and they do genuinely love each other, and they are really affectionate, something I never saw with my him and his (soon to be) ex wife, so I am leaning towards this not being a replacement for the massive aching hole in his heart, but I do have concerns. I'll need to speak to him about it soon.

  45. It's amazing seeing episodes like that - more often than not they're over by the time you realise what's actually happening. Loved this one that made the papers a couple of years back - sparrowhawk chasing a wheatear at a wind farm managed to knock itself unconscious, and the intended quarry did a GIRUY pose on the prone body of its attacker before flying off. Hawk was fine, BTW.
