  1. To show my appreciation for the NHS, rather than clapping, I will simply just continue to not ever vote Tory.

  2. First time on this thread so thought I’d make a contribution. Last Thursday night I came down with a high fever, breathing issues and a bit of a cough. After calling my GP on Friday i was told to isolate the family for 14 days as in all probability it was Covid-19,later that day my Wife also became ill.At first I was sceptical and reckoned I’d came down with a “normal virus” but this is unlike anything I’ve had previously. The Friday and Saturday we both had a high fever, real shortness of breath but only a slight cough, much the same Sunday & Monday but with the added insight into why all the bampots were stockpiling fkn loo roll. Tuesday for me was the worst, adding hot sweat, shivers and feeling faint but it passed by late afternoon and I started feeling and breathing better. Yesterday and today I’m better, still a bit short of breath but no temperature and not much of a cough. My Wife has had Exactly the same symptoms 24 hrs after me.Thankfully my 2 boys haven’t showed any symptoms and obviously our main concern is protecting them from this. TBH I have experienced worse physically but mentally it’s a different proposition when all you see are people being stretched into hospitals or bodies being taken into morgues!Must admit I was terrified of going into hospital on my own with no family allowed anywhere near me,You do have the option of getting some breathing apparatus in house but thankfully it hasn’t got that bad. The one thing that would have helped me mentally would have been contact with people that had been through what was I was likely to experience,it would definitely have helped me. Stay safe.

  6. It really didn't. China and Russia are very far from allies. North Korea is a frustration to China. North Korea are clearly reporting nothing, they are not clear of the virus. Russia are getting on with things as Russia always does, don't expect bad news from the Russian government any time soon. The hospitals in China were prefabricated and due to the political structure the central government can cut through the red tape and build things quickly. For many years now China has many very public examples of building complex structures in record time; bridges, metros, long distance railways, buildings. Both domestically and abroad. The spread of the virus and the lesser impact to places like Beijing is due to timing. China is a country of migrant workforce and with New Year coming, the traffic was flowing one way from the cities back to the provinces. They then locked Hubei down, stopped the long distance bus network and HSR and flights, effectively isolating the virus (if only the UK was an island and could do the same?) There is zero evidence of major trade upwards of company shares in recent weeks and generally all major indices remain flat. Where is the evidence of China 'buying up in the West'. China has for years invested heavily and not so discreetly in western economies. They have invested heavily in the US economy, pretty much own the automotive industry, largely control the worlds rare earth minerals (which is a huge issue, to the point that the US wanted to 'buy' Greenland) have been pushing into HSR and only restricted in the aviation industry as it is mostly locked down. Chinas internal economy has suffered badly. their domestic automotive industry has virtually collapsed in recent months, hitting near zero sales of new cars in the biggest new car marked in the world by far. I think that's enough to dispel the drivel. At the same time, without playing down the virus, it all in all, is not so much a critical problem healthwise (meaning, we will get through this and recover in a matter of time healthwise, how fast depending how individual goverments react and how individuals react). There are many other factors to consider and hence why places like Italy and Spain are hit harder. The real long term issue is the economical issue created from this (and this is why governments are caught between 'flattening the curve' and keeping work going). Everything that happens, every working day lost, every government support paymemt is not free money and everyone will pay in the future for a long time. China will be no exception. There will be a stigma against China for this and added to the fact the disruption to the global supply chains and the speeding up of protectionism and robotics/AI/algorithms foreign companies in China will close or dilute their exposure in China.

  9. f**k England for voting for the Tories. With Corbyn as PM we'd have put people before businesses, we'd have a UBI, we'd be nationalising all the industries that are failing and we'd be looking at a fundamental change to our economic system to recalibrate away from extreme capitalism which is destroying the planet, causes extreme poverty and inequality, is causing a mental health crisis and has now shown itself to be utterly hapless and dysfunctional in times of crisis. But instead Johnson will fluff his way through, give out a bit of socialism light for a short period then return everything to normal saying it was our strong economic foundations (fucking lol) that allowed us to get through this and we'll go right back to the same old shit. No doubt the gap between rich and poor will increase massively again just as post 2008 crash.

  12. Just been to Tesco for some essentials. Great social distancing practices employed by @G_Man1985 and the team. Limited shoppers, plenty demarcation lines etc. Hope they keep this up when this all passes, delighted not to have to battle past auld fuckers nattering and blocking aisles up. I hate being around the general public because on the whole they're morons so that was an all round pleasant experience.

  13. Many of those applauding the NHS workers will be the same people that have gutted supermarkets for the last fortnight leaving them with f**k all coming off shifts. But at least they got a few likes on Facebook.

  15. I genuinely did clap, my parents went wild for it as if their clapping was going to kill the virus. Was quite cool seeing more than half the street doing so and bizarrely mildly moving. What a stressful job working in the hospitals would be but deeply satisfying and gratifying. I think because a lot of morons just spout off utter shite regarding the NHS just to sound like they actually care or are thoughtful the whole message gets a bit diluted. Sort of similar to poppy wearing, the whole thing gets turned into a side show and it then becomes fashionable to act like people who show appreciation are idiots ). I know it doesnt make any real impact or whatever but I think its more sad people highlighting just how indifferent they are than me the old couple across the road and the school kids on my street sharing ten seconds of engagement when we barely see anyone just now

  16. The handling of this pandemic has made an ironclad case for greater state intervention and control over private enterprises. If your business had to be bailed out by the government - like some bearded tit's airline - then the government should be taking a huge stake in return and should use it to permanently abolish the shareholder wealth maximisation principle. They should be run in a manner that keeps them financially secure instead of handing out money to shareholders and then running to the government about a week after they start losing custom. If your business is important to the basic functioning of the economy then the government should also have an oversight role to ensure that is equipped to cope: similar to the 'stress tests' imposed on banks after 2008. Supermarkets should no longer be allowed to operate on a 'just in time' stock principle that breaks down as soon as everyone buys toilet paper: and the costs should be absorbed by their shareholders in the form of reduced dividends rather than consumers.

  19. next: Arthurlie (see NLS) https://www.arthurliefc.co.uk/item.php?pg=news&pd=1002&it=40 Thursday 26th March 2020 Statement || West of Scotland Football League - Update Statement || West of Scotland Football League - Update Arthurlie Football Club has received and considered the latest correspondence from the Pyramid Working Group (PWG) in relation to the proposed West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) entering at tier six in the Scottish football pyramid. It should be noted that the club's original plan was to hold an Emergency General Meeting for season ticket holders to deliberate on the proposals, however this was unavoidably cancelled, given the current Covid-19 crisis around the nation. To this end, the elected club committee, as custodians of the club, have discussed all options on the table and have agreed on the best way forward for Arthurlie FC. Ahead of the 7th April deadline for applications (which has been extended from 31st March due to the current situation), the club will now formally apply to join the new WoSFL and also plan to retain membership of the Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA) - which will see us continue to participate in the Scottish Junior Cup. The committee see this as an exciting new venture in the club's history and we look forward to the new challenges that lie ahead, when football can resume. In the meantime, everyone please do everything possible to protect yourself and others from Covid-19. STAY HOME. STAY SAFE. SAVE LIVES. Thank you! Arthurlie FC Committee

  21. It's all a diversion from the gross incompetence by government. From this evenings news ( Ch4 )...... declined/made no response to the EU offer to pool procurement of ventilators. ( No 10's 'explanation' on this has changed twice today ) Same programme also showed how rapid, mass testing in South Korea is the basis of the incredibly low death toll there. Several days ago Donald Trump phoned South Korea asking for assistance in procurement of testers. No call from Britain. Instead we have nurses, doctors, medical staff of all descriptions... in tears, begging for proper testing, and decent protective equipment. And happy clapping.

  23. Please don't clap. It's already embarrassing enough with all the free food and other stuff being delivered. We're lucky enough to have secure jobs and keep getting paid. I'd prefer the food and donations to go to those who are actually needing it.

  24. Well it seems a few posters have missed my presence for some odd reason, thanks to those who were concerned, all fine here. Just a few "issues" with my log-in so for the time being it's an abbreviated version. Also with the C19 pandemic, focus has been elsewhere most of the time. Nice to see my auld pals Beenze and Lurker seeing me behind every pillar, sorry to disappoint! Lowland Team will be pissed off being likened to me lol. I believe there's around 20-25 clubs who have applied to the new WoS so far, so going well. Should have been much further down the road by now. Clubs now have the choice that should always have been there, go Senior or stay Junior, although I believe WRJFA clubs are being told if they want to stay Junior they'll need to form a new league. Why, the WRJFA is theirs as much as anyone's elses and it will remain for them should they choose to stay put, more misinformation. Never ceases to amaze the Junior Cup all of a sudden is the possession of the WRJFA to do with what they like, and it seems like they are still treating this as some sort of battle to be won. There's next to no chance that clubs in the EoS will enter anyway. Whatever happens, SJFA/WRJFA blazers need to be kept well away from a future WoSFL Board if the game in the west is to embrace the Pyramid. A completely fresh start. Anyway, stay safe everyone, stay at home, stay healthy and look forward to the new season whenever it happens.

  27. Still here pal. Burd is 7 and a bit months pregnant so if worst comes to worst it should be a simple 1 in 1 out scenario. I'll make sure he's (it's a boy) taken to Mcdiarmid by his brothers. Breathing not changed any, still fairly difficult but not at passing out stage just yet, feel like a twat phoning the NHS but needs must and I'll be doing that today.

  37. Club Statement - COVID-19 Following extensive discussions with our Board of Directors over the last couple of weeks, I feel that now is a good time to advise our fans on the current situation at Bayview. As you will all appreciate our first priority is for the health & well-being of all of our employees including players, management, club office staff and, of course, our volunteers. There has been a lot work going on behind the scenes and no doubt this will continue for a good while yet. The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has caused an enormous amount of disruption to both the football club, and more importantly, the wider community. As you will be aware, all domestic football has been postponed until 30th April 2020 at the earliest, however, we realistically expect the shutdown to run well into the summer. As a club we have implemented the following actions to safeguard our employees: The club office is now closed and will remain closed for the foreseeable future. Leona & Carolyn will be working from home during the closure and are available to answer any enquiries via email. Following guidance from the SFA last week, no first-team or under 20s training sessions have taken place. Players are undertaking fitness training on their own although the management teams have been available to provide them with any support and advice required. The Locality Hub Bayview Stadium will also remain closed until further notice. As you can imagine, the postponement of all matches will have a substantial impact of the club financially. At the time of the shutdown we had 4 home league matches to play which has resulted in loss in revenue from gate admissions and sold-out hospitality as well as losses from club shop and bar sales. Our final scheduled home match of this season against Falkirk would have generated income of around £20,000 on its own. We are also in a promising position within the league & were very much in contention for the promotion play-offs this year, matches which would have also generated a considerable amount of revenue for the club. Following a lot of hard-work by the Board of Directors over the last few years, East Fife Football Club are in a relatively safe financial position however the losses detailed above put a significant strain on club finances and we will begin to struggle should the shutdown continue into August as some within the game have indicated. East Fife do have Business Interruption insurance, including closure for diseases, however, when we enquired about this last week, we were advised that we would not be covered by that insurance as the stadium hadn’t been closed due to an incident of this coronavirus on the premises. We are currently checking whether our position changes now that we’ve entered a government mandated shutdown. I have been heartened by the number of supporters who have contacted the club wishing to contribute financially. I have so far been reluctant to ask supporters for donations as I know many will be struggling with their own position at this time. We have, however, given our backing to a Gofundme campaign set up by Melanie Lothian & Mandy Stevenson. You can donate to the page here. I would also encourage all supporters to sign up for our Goldmine Lotto which you can now do online. The current jackpot is £1,450 and the draw takes place every Wednesday at 1pm. For more info & to play click here. East Fife TV and our media team having been doing a fantastic job keeping you informed and entertained over the past couple of weeks and have plans in place for future features. Last weekend I’m sure many of you tuned in to watch their “live” match & I’m sure you’ll do so again this weekend; I hear we’re going to have the chance to relive another memorable encounter! East Fife TV are showing all of these matches for free but donations can be made if you wish here. All monies donated will come directly to the club. Finally, I encourage all of you to adhere to all advice issued by the government to help fight this virus and I hope you & your family remain safe & well. Yours Jim Stevenson Chairman East Fife FC @EastFifeFC · 38m Following extensive discussions between our Board of Directors over the last few weeks, Chairman Jim Stevenson would like to issue supporters with the following update https://eastfifefc.info/latest-news/788-club-statement-covid-19

  43. Spot on, as is @glensmad. The reason I've praised Gordon Ronney is the fact that he was willing to make things work by commiting to changes. He, unlike TJ and the SJFA, was able to get things over the line without splits and/or unnecessary arguments.

  44. Is there an award for the most stupid post of the year on P&B? The government was told that without action there would have been around 750k deaths in the UK. There is now some optimism that we may be able to keep this to ~20k. Trump is a well known anti-vaxxer. Presumably when a vaccine is developed you will turn down the offer of a dose?
