  1. What’s the deal with the lazy signing chat? Do we really want another unknown quantity at this point in the campaign? At least the player is known and hopefully can be coached back to the player he was previously. Give him a chance.

  4. Yesterday we took on our first foster dog - Amigo. He was abandoned by his last owners over in Romania and was left to sleep on the streets and was rescued by Paws to freedom and were looking after him until he can find a forever home as we won’t be able to keep him long term but he’s the loveliest big dog you could ask for after what he’s been through. He is only 9 months and much bigger than our current dog - Harry who’s nearly 2 so he’s got some growing left in him, managed to get him out his first walk today and the big guys shattered.

  7. Well the hearing could not have gone better, our daughter never showed up which helps our residency case. The social work laid out the reasons why the kids should stay under our care and not be returned to her. Maisie's dad also was there supporting us as he is very happy with the care and love she is getting, the lay people on panel were unanimous in granting us another 12 months child protection order and also limiting the supervised contact to every fortnight as it has been of poor quality and they want to see it improving. Now we have a proof hearing on 5th February at Falkirk Sheriff court to find out if we get full residency.

  10. Oh to go back to that day of the strip launch. I can't believe I actually attended it. Full of hope and excitement and 2 cracking strips to buy. Dennon Lewis even said his aim was to be top scorer in the league and the Chelsea reserve captain was seeming confident. Little did i know the horrors I was about to witness.

  12. As the 'guy who runs the Twitter' I was told at the time Houston's loan deal was for 12 months. I sought to confirm this before tweeting the story after seeing Rangers saying it was until January and the message back was: 'Gaffer [McCall] tells me it’s defo end of season with clauses for both clubs to end it in January' - which I think is standard for all loans. Hope this wee peak behind the curtain of how these things work in practice helps. While I can't claim to have never made a mistake or two since taking over the Twitter account, I can only tweet the information I'm told.

  14. Strachan’s definitely in charge of the youth set up and is coaching the coaches at the same time about training methods/coaching/style of play. A friend at work’s son is with 1 of the under age teams. He said Strachan was behind the decision to not go for elite status in the Project Brave program recommended by Henry McLeish. Strachan apparently isn’t a fan on Project Brave and wants the youths coached as much as possible and playing in games locally. He thinks it’s far more beneficial than them sitting on a bus for 3 hours to places like Inverness and Dingwall for 80 minutes or so of football. He’s been to some major clubs around Europe looking at their programs for youth development and was citing clubs like Athletico Bilbao as they type of model who we were trying to base our youth development on. Apparently they’ve had lots of success developing their own players and concentrate heavily on the coaching aspect than dragging their players across Spain and never play the likes of Barcelona or the Madrid clubs and just play games in their local area. The guy in my work said the formation tactic he wants the youths developed in is 4-4-2 but it’s not ridged to only this but is his preferred formation. I was told this when we were playing 4-3-2-1 with Hemmings isolated on his own and said to the guy “great everyone else is getting coached 4-4-2 and the fuckwit manager is playing 1 up front”. The response was a bewildered shrug of the shoulders Don’t shoot the messenger, that was the info I was given and the guy is impressed with Strachan.

  21. I think that's the right approach. The question isn't, will he set the heather alight and play like he did before? but can he get us more goals than we would get without him? I think the answer to the first question is "probably not", the answer to the second, "highly likely".

  25. Here is more grim reading for you as opposed to me. Below are average attendances for 2018-19 and 2019-20 for Musselburgh Athletic 1. Overall home + away matches averages 2018-19 ave attendance home + away = 205 2019-20 ave attendance home + away = 274 2. Averages split for home + away matches 2018-19 ave attendance home match = 243 2019-20 ave attendance home match = 314 2018-19 ave attendance away match = 174 2019-20 ave attendance away match = 233 3. Average split for home + away League matches 2018-19 League home match ave = 221 2019-20 League home match ave = 331 2018-19 League away match ave = 162 2019-20 League away match ave = 203 4. Average split for overall away Cup matches 2018-19 Cup home match ave = 287 2019-20 Cup home match ave = 280 2018-19 Cup away match ave = 190 2019-20 Cup away match ave = 293 From the above, proof that attendance averages have increased in 2019-20 as opposed to 2018-19; except for home cup matches. Home attendance figures provided by Musselburgh Athletic. Away attendance figures provided by opposition teams.

  29. I don't think it's as bad as RL86 says. Reckon he definitely would be worth a punt for you. We were pretty poor second half of last season especially at trying to break teams down, everyone's game against us changed after we romped the first half and this season this is a tough league where we play with one up and where the striker doesn't get many chances. Has to hold it up by the self and do a shit tonne of running which isn't Spences game. Been in and out of the team a lot too, on off of the bench etc. Reckon he could still do well at L1.

  31. Thanks for your opinion, Hendo, but: 1) There really is nothing baffling about the results, given that our results have been terrible for a year now. Stendel has had 5 games, all of which were within 19 days of joining the club and even then, there has been some evidence of improvement from game 1 to game 5. We had some good spells of play against Celtic and created more chances than the opposition against Hamilton, Hibs and Aberdeen. Our downfall has been the same as it has been all season: a lack of quality in front of goal and a tendency for certain players to make calamitous individual errors at the back. The best performance came after the "senior players" had been dropped, by the way. Much like nobody sensible wanted Steve Clarke sacked after his first 5 games as Scotland manager, not many Hearts fans blame Stendel for the results in his short spell so far. 2) Regarding his Christmas absence, there was a suggestion that he was visiting a terminally ill relative in Germany. I don't know if that's true, but I'm not sure why you would automatically assume there was some frivolous reason for it nonetheless. 3) Daly and Fox were Levein's assistants and Stendel wants his own assistants, as per his agreement to join the club. To achieve that, Daly and Fox have to move aside. Once Stendel has got his own staff, Kirk will very likely go back to being U20s manager. There is absolutely nothing baffling about this. I agree that the situation with Whelan and Berra could have been handled better, and perhaps it will backfire. We don't know how the rest of the squad will react to this, but we had a similar episode in 2014 when Locke, Hamill, Stevenson and MacDonald were "brutally sacked" and some of them mouthed off in the press about it. The results that followed suggest this didn't have too much of a negative effect on the rest of the squad. If we get some new players in and win some games then this will be quickly forgotten about. There also seems to be an assumption from some that Whelan was some respected, influential figure at the club. Given that he lives in England, trained part-time, ducked media duties, put in half-arsed performances, is big pals with Jon Daly (who apparently was not popular among the squad) and heavily implied in that interview that his teammates were shite, I'm not so sure.

  32. It's especially weird given that player sales make up a massive part of the income of a lot of football clubs. You wouldn't say "Pizza Hut's losses would have been close to £1.5m if it hadn't been for all those pizzas that they sold". If you get income then of course you're going to spend it. My feeling is that the guy mainly does this stuff through a prism of big clubs and then doesn't really understand what makes smaller clubs tick. It's just like the bit about the decrease in revenue being "due to less progress in cups perhaps?". Of course it is, what other reason would there be? You reached two cup finals in the previous season, which brings massive gate revenue, TV income and prize money from the four games at Hampden. Probably that money is a drop in the ocean for a big English club or even Celtic and Rangers, so he doesn't realise quite how impactful it is for a Motherwell.

  34. All the debate about giving the OF three stands.....some of it is very interesting. For what it's worth, I don't have a real opinion on it, other than in an ideal world it wouldn't happen. Saints have tried to encourage more people through the gates but the truth as i see it is they have more or less only been preaching to the converted. It's a while ago now, but the Scottish Cup win in 2014 was a prime example of the club, quite literally, falling asleep - we had, what, 15/16k whatever it was, people at that final and it might be reasonably presumed that the majority had an interest/love/whatever with Saints that had for whatever reason died away and needed something like the SC run to pull them back in. Sadly, the biggest opportunity Saints ever had as club was ignored/wasted - call it what you want - and the club fell silent for some weeks after that success. The feel good factor in the town and wider area and the genuine buzz in the build up, and immediate aftermath with the parade, should have been used as a foundation for Saints to try and get even some of those people to come back regularly. Even 10/15% of those at the final who weren't regulars becoming so would have been massive in the short term. Instead of a massive fanfare in the town - I'll always believe they should have been down in the centre the Monday onwards getting people to commit to buying Season Tickets, shirts, lotto, you name it - there was just silence. For weeks. The season tickets eventually were announced I think about the end of June that year, fully 6/7 weeks after the final and by then much of the goodwill had died. It's not to say that any additional ST holders signed up that summer would still remain today, but it's not inconceivable to imagine a few would still hang around. The initial impact, financially, would have been brilliant for the club and the domino effect follows - pies, juice etc at the game. Yeah, Saints have made efforts to put bums on seats, but really, nowhere near enough. They make little effort with merchandise etc - just ask the people at Campus and pass up opportunity after opportunity. Really, and this isn't necessarily a critical view, but we're essentially an amateur football club playing full time football. So, whatever their reasons for this decision, and whoever they might be blaming, the closer truth is they are to blame in equal measure for the situation we find ourselves.

  38. It was one of the few games I missed this season sadly! Thing is, for us we need to be at our best and the top teams need to have an off day for us to take anything. Nature of the beast operating on probably the smallest budget in the league. The EoS has been fantastic, and becoming full SFA members and entering the Scottish Cup was a pipe dream to the club only a few years ago. Also, seeing the U20's getting going and some of those players come through already has been great, it's the future for us.
