  1. Interestingly, I've found a venn diagram relating to this very subject! It's quite instructive.

  2. The Alex Totten interview on the hope street podcast is a decent listen. He is a Falkirk legend and it was fantastic to hear hin recall Kevin James equaliser v Celtic in the semi final which is probably my highlight of supporting Falkirk that moment was sheer joy. My dad was only 5 in 57 so missed that and had waited over 40 years to see Falkirk compete in a semi final he was the most reserved guy in the world but lost his shit when that went in. He died aged 61 but I will never forget how mental the celebration at that goal was.

  3. I am just back from a wonderful trip to St Helena. I have known about the place for decades but never imagined I would ever go there. Until recently this would have involved a five day boat journey from Cape Town but now it has an airport. The airport was slow to get started. The first flight in was with the Boeing 737 Max plane that has now been grounded. The flight was a scary experience but basically they were using the wrong plane. I flew in on an Embraer 190, which is a smaller plane with about 60 passengers. It was the inaugural flight from Cape Town. There have now been hundreds of flights from Johannesburg. The flight was with FlyAirLink which is a subsidiary of South African Airways and I was able to buy a ticket on-line for about £600. I needed to prove I had travel insurance that include medical evacuation if necessary – fairly common requirement for many African countries. The flight out started with a two hour flight to Walvis Bay in Namibia where the plane was refuelled followed by a three hour flight to St Helena. I was a little nervous about the landing but actually it was straightforward and not unpleasant at all. I stayed in the capital Jamestown which is located in a valley at sea level and is generally 5 degrees warmer than the rest of the island. The first day involved climbing Jacob’s Ladder, which is the tallest single staircase in the world with 699 steps. The fastest climb up and back down was by a Scotsman who took 5 minutes and 16.78 seconds. I took longer. I went to Plantation House where the island governor lives. They had a portrait of Prince Andrew and were debating whether to take it down. Outside in the garden I saw the tortoises including Jonathan who at the age of 187 years is the oldest land creature in the world. He still has eyes for Emma but she is only 50. Like everywhere on the island the view is of the ocean, where the rest of the world is a long way away. I also went to Briars Pavilion and Longwood House where Napoleon lived in exile. Along with Napoleon’s Tomb (where Napoleon no longer is) these properties are owned by the French Government who pay the people who work there. Across the road from Longwood house is a children’s play park, a supermarket and a petrol station. I doubt any of these were around when Napoleon was living there. I drove to Sandy Bay on the far side of the island. If you want to get away from everyone then this is the place to go. Antarctica would be another place but Sandy Bay is much warmer. The cactus plants make that obvious. I climbed to the top Diane’s Peak which is the highest point on the island. It was fairly easy to do and about an hour each way. For anyone who gets homesick, it is possible to visit Scotland although it is actually a small place that has a roundabout with a tree in the middle. I also went to Blue Hill in the south west which was very scenic. The whole island is beautiful. Every picture is a postcard. The natives are friendly and everybody wants to talk to you. It was a truly memorable holiday.

  6. Well here is the problem isnt it. We are part of the mess thanks to shitebags in 2014 and morons in the Brexit vote. We're trapped for the foreseeable future and no amount of posturing or calling for a referendum is going to make it happen. The latest announcement about new oil fields etc in the North Sea has taken care of that. Furthermore the contempt that the likes of BoJo etc holds the SNP in knows no bounds, just look at yesterday's phonegate incident. Call me Dave's half arsed gamble has crippled this country. We can now look forward to the eradication of workers right etc and a truly dreadful few years. Dickensian times for the poor await. Hopefully I am wrong and somehow a referendum is called but would it surprise anyone If we shat it again. What a time to be alive.

  10. The way the Rangers bench scuttled backwards after realising John Potter was going to kick their c***s in all by himself gives a real insight into why they are Celtic's bitches and always shit themselves when the pressure is on.

  13. Did anyone ask Paul Goodwin why he thinks there is a demand/urgent need for fan ownership (I haven't seen any evidence of either), and/or why he's the best man to lead it? It looks like he has rocked up, schmoozed Weir/Low, and concocted a scheme placing himself at the centre (with resultant PR) which makes huge changes to our club. The benefits to the fans, who ultimately will no doubt be required to pay more to fund the club, remain pretty mysterious. Given the choice between the now-lapsed Chien Lee takeover/feeder club path and a chancer like Paul Goodwin organising a fan-owned model based on hiring out the Aitken suite more often, I'd almost certainly have plumped for the former.

  15. Just seen the Picture clearly showing a glass bottle on the pitch having been thrown at a rangers player. I think I speak for every right minded hibs fan when I say that the guy who threw it should be absolutely ashamed of himself! How did he miss from there ?

  19. Indeed. It would seem the club apparently knocking on death's door playing from a condemned stadium with bankrupt social club and destined at best to be Kelty's reserve side, are now 3rd top of their conference after moving to EOSL with a 20-year lease on said stadium having just reopened said social club as well as expanding their youth system. Miraculous...

  24. Until being forced into it due to injury at the QOS game McPake didn’t really give Johnson and Hemmings a real chance to form a partnership (they have scored 4 goals between them in 2.5 games since Johnston came on as a sub. McDaid flatters to deceive. Ness injured. Byrne has been dreadful when used. Gowser has only once ever scored more than 2 league goals in a season in the time he has been with us. Dorrans gets deeper and deeper as each game goes on. Nelson has constantly been played out of position. When you add in the fact that Forster and Hamilton are first choice in our defence I suppose it is no suprise we are on negative goal difference.

  31. well talk about karma coming back to bite me.... I posted the above at 13.40 yesterday. At 3pm my boss comes in to see me. We have a potential new customer who's current supplier has let them down. He needs me to drive 3 hours in the morning(today) to Warrington to sit in this customers office taking enquiries. As this was a job I did previously and no one else available my boss has put my name forward. Obviously he did it in the only way he could: "do you have anything planned tomorrow, meetings or anything?" "no" "ok we need you to go to this customer for the day" "ok" Then I get the full story and cant make an excuse.... I had planned an easy day today, with a sneaky early finish.... but instead I left the house at 5.30am this morning to drive to Warrington. I'm now sitting in a spare desk amongst 40 office staff I've never met before, they are all in xmas jumpers(i'm in a suit) with the xmas tunes blaring. But the icing on the cake is each section of this big office is individual teams of maybe 8-10..and yep, each section is having their Secret Santa today. So I've had to sit in the middle of it like a f*cking dickhead as they've exchanged presents around me. I'll be here til 5pm then got to face the M6 on one of the busiest road days of the year. Will service me right for laughing at folk getting sh*t Secret santa gifts.

  32. The issue is that the SPFL will want the clubs in the leagues below it at tier 5 to be fully licenced. At the moment, that won't be possible if there's two lowland feeders. Remembering as well that the SPFL wasn't keen in the first place to have two feeders rather, so three will be a major leap, although it makes sense. The realistic option is for the Highland/Lowland parallel leagues to continue and a West league to come in at tier 6. Once the number of licenced clubs starts to climb, then three leagues at tier 5 could be revisited. I can't see how the ERJFA en masse can ever come in a tier 6, there's just too many issues in overlapping geography, promotion issues with the Highland/Lowland boundary that the PWG has no power to resolve.

  35. I’d like to talk about Kieran MacDonald. He’s the best left back we’ve had in the last 10/15 years. Granted, we’ve not exactly been blessed with prowess in that area but he is a fucking great player. When we signed him all the Airdrie fans said his final ball was poor - nonsense. He’s got about 10 assists and has chipped in with goals, too. First touch is exemplary and is a real threat going forward. I love watching him. Right up there as POTY so far. Is he signed up for next year?
