  2. In some pleasing, if slightly inconsequential news, Mrs B finally realised today that my pledge to divorce her if she voted tory was serious. Partial credit to a P&B posted, possibly Dunning1874 whose quote I borrowed in offering her an explanation she cpuld understand. "You can be a good person, or you can vote Tory. You cannot do both". She has settled for now on the Greens. It will be SNP by the time we go along the road.

  3. Same here, I've been sharing that one. And also Kirstene's recent comment about Healthcare in Angus being abysmal. I know at least 4 folk who changed their vote to SNP solely because of that. Tories just can't help themselves. They are absolute fucking vermin.

  17. Atlas Park was our second ground and as you say was between Edgefauld Road and the railway line, next to the Atlas Locomotive Works. There was no connection other than the name, and we had to move from there as they expanded to build a munitions factory before WW1 broke out. In the attached pic Atlas Park is behind the fence on the left.

  18. Anyone who thinks Corbyn is an anti-Semite is a gullible fool, slurping up the lies of a right wing dominated media. His plans for the economy are incredibly radical - and will change this country no doubt. Will the stock markets and financial experts shite themselves? I fucking hope so. For far too long Britain has been driven by a fierce neoliberal ideology and I'm sick fed up of it. Get it in the sea. In terms of brexit the country is massively split, and Corbyn wants a second leave vote before triggering this pretty nuclear option. I have no issue with that. He can't completely back remain as it's far too undemocratic to do so, and he's trying to find a middle ground. In terms of indyref2 he's taking a far more pragmatic approach than Scottish Labour. He at least accepts that it's up to the Scottish parliament to decide whether or not to have a referendum. (Without explicitly saying this)

  23. Day 1 on Islay: Lagavulin - bought the 11 yo Offerman edition. Got soaked to skin. Ardbeg - got welcomed like an old friend, had lunch and nips of Corryvreckan and Perpetuum. Got soaked to skin. Kilchoman - went in soaked to skin from the beach and they warmed me up with some lentil soup, and gave me a few drivers drams to take away (which I will tan tonight). Some island this. There has been a battle raging all day between sunshine and rain. An absolute paradise. I've got a mixture of sunburn and trench foot. Tomorrow hopefully is Bunnahabhain tasting day if I can find transport.

  25. After a run of six wins on the bounce, scoring 19 goals and conceding only 4, beating Falkirk and East Fife, it's hard to resist feeling like something is going to give, especially when we have struggled to get anything off Raith in recent years. Airdrie undoubtedly good enough to win the game but, given we have Peterhead at home and Clyde away in the next two matches and given Raith keep getting results at home, a draw wouldn't be a calamity. Regardless of the result, i'm confident the airdrie players will give Raith a game and work themselves into the turf to get a result. That is, ultimately, all I can ask for. I'd expect Raith to improve their performances from the apparently poor stuff of late, given it's a top of the table clash and a chance to reclaim top spot. If we can sneak a wee lead, though, I'd expect us to see it out. Buzzin like a second hand fridge for it, regardless.

  27. Tories between 330 and 360 unfortunately, SNP 44-48. Swinson emptied. I'm also predicting a shock victory for the Brexit Party in Linlithgow and Falkirk East. Campaign is going great guns and the candidate is really connecting with the locals.

  28. Found this on facebook The Dutch media are not pulling their punches. This was published in the Volksrant, a daily newspaper. As you can see it depicts the UK being gang raped by Johnson, Farage, Cummings, Rees-Mogg and somebody else...... edit(is it gove?) The BBC is saying, “Move along now. Nothing to see here”. Seems to me the Dutch have a grip of what’s happening here and the BBC’s role in it.

  33. The win at Tynecastle earlier in the season was my favourite game so far - a worldy from Seedorf and some of the best boo-ing I've ever heard in a scottish ground made it pretty memorable - so looking forward to this one. I think our record against Hearts and Fir Park is pretty decent and obviously they are going through a bit of a shiter at the moment, so we should be confident of taking something (usual Motherwell caveats apply). Robinson may choose to make some minor changes but no-one would complain if it was the same starting 11 from Wednesday night's stroll in Paisley given that we have a week's gap until the next game. Hoping for a 9/9 points for the week but is it ever that easy for us?

  35. Played for both clubs - Andy Dow. Utter c**t. It's been 15 years, half my lifetime, since he played for us, and his name still makes me angry and I hate the c**t. He was our team captain, who seemed to think he was too good for us, and one day turned up to a game to find out he'd finally been dropped and told the manager he didn't want to sit on the bench and was going home. Incredible to think he was the captain FFS. Also, a couple of months prior to this with us on an absolutely dreadful run of form and having not won away from home for over a year, we played St Mirren and Dow got dogs abuse from their support for being shite when he played for them. We get a penalty in the last minute, Dow decides it's his ball not our usual penalty taker in an attempt to get it right up the St Mirren fans. The fucking useless c**t missed and the ref immediately blew for full time. I fucking hate Andy Dow.

  38. People were promised every deal available though - and there was no plan for what was being proposed. That was entirely intentional, and you can't slide into no deal just because the politicians couldn't agree on anything. If no deal was the proposal for 2016 do you still think no deal would've won? I'm no fan of the EU. But that referendum was a farce. Out of those two leaders Jeremy Corbyn has been far and away more consistent on issues than Boris Johnson. Johnson was pro EU for many years remember, and changed to support leave at the last minute. He's a populist. He promised the dup there would be no border in the sea and then did just that. He blows with the wind. Surely you can admit that? There's a huge difference between giving a sound-bite driven answer that seems definite but is actually glib - and actually believing in something through thick and thin. The erg believe in brexit, and always have. Johnson has no such principles. Corbyn was opposed to the EU for many years and in the 2016 campaign he made it clear that he still felt there were problems with the EU - but that on the whole remain was the best option. He was criticised in the media for 'being half-hearted' but actually be was just being rational and honest. He's not a great leader when it comes to forceful speeches but in terms of principles and honesty there really is no comparison between him and Boris.

  40. I have a nagging feeling she'll slither in by less than a 1000 votes. She's a complete cretin and hopefully her comments about Healthcare in Angus cost her dearly. She also has another hustings coming up in Kirriemuir where she will most likely make a total c**t of herself. The SNP candidate seems a good guy and has done shitloads of canvassing. Hair has done little other than pal about with farmers and drag Theresa May round the posher parts of a couple of Angus towns.

  43. I bought a Springbank 15 only. A model of restraint. Went into Cadenhead after Springbank and neither offered me a dram. Stingy. In Islay they are much more generous with their samples and I buy much more, there could be a correlation! Anyway Campbeltown was nowhere near as dingy as I'd heard. Sure the High St is a bit run down with usual load of empty shops, but it was a pleasant enough place to wander about in for a couple of hours. Left via a long walk at Machrihanish Bay, which was wild and stunning. Walked for two hours and still didn'tmanage to walk the length of the beach. Off to Islay tomorrow (weather/ferry dependent), currently bunkering down in Tarbert where about a month worth of rain fell on my head in the five minute walk from my hotel to the pub. Soaked through doesn't even begin to cover my woes here.

  46. And another 10 out of 10. Students of French in the 90s will remember La Tricolore textbooks, where seemingly every other sentence made reference to the vibrancy and richness of things happening in La Rochelle, France. I was absolutely convinced growing up that La Rochelle was second only to Paris in terms of size and importance. Of course, having just looked it up, it would appear that's a pretty ordinary "city" with a population of around 75,000. Which leads me to wonder if students in France eagerly open their cahiers des textes to read about all the goings-on in, say, East Kilbride.
