  1. Here is the dummies' guide. The United Kingdom has various rules, treaties and agreements affecting the rights of citizens of all other countries on Earth to move to the UK. You have no say on any of these rules, treaties and agreements other than electing an MP to Parliament who has a 1/650 vote. Most MPs who stand in your constituency will be members of parties who have an immigration policy however these political parties will not make any specific promises other than to cut or increase immigration. If the UK wants to strike deals with the EU and non-EU countries post-Brexit those countries will negotiate (inter alia) the provision of visas for their citizens and vice versa. You will have no say in this either. The treaties, rules and agreements governing EU member states allow for free movement of people between member states. The UK and its elected officials helped formulate and pass these rules because they considered it to be part of a mutually beneficial arrangement. In any event, there are some allowances so this movement is not unfettered but you (again) have no say in whether those allowances are used other than voting for an MP with a 1/650 vote. Your logic (as per your previous post) was that less free movement with Europe results in more free movement between the UK and India. That is a false dichotomy. The rules governing Indian people moving here are already established and are not guaranteed to change post-Brexit. There is a good chance that they will because we may want to strike a better trade deal with India and also fill a labour shortage or skills gap because Brexit is likely to harm our economy. If India demand as part of a trade deal that more Indians can move here you have no say in whether we change our rules other than changing your single vote for your 1/650 MP. You either believe the rubbish you are posting about the UK not having a say in Freedom of Movement and Brexit giving Indian citizens a fairer crack of the whip or you are simply opposed to freedom of movement from the member states. This means you are either stupid or disingenuous in bringing the Indians into it. If you have a reasoned argument for opposing freedom of movement which explains why it is necessarily different from freedom of movement between Scotland and Cornwall, fair enough. If you have a reasoned argument as to why Freedom of Movement is something we should abandon despite all of the economic forecasts suggesting it will be a disaster, fair enough. If not, I will continue to presume xenophobia and you will continue to respond in an arrogant and dismissive manner which mimics mine but carries none of the same flair.

  5. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-49742175 So the first actual evidence strongly suggests that it works and saves lives. There will need to be more evidence gathered and more statistical analysis, but so far it looks good. No thanks to the global liquid drug pushers alliance, who used the Scotch Whisky Association to delay this policy by six fucking years. They lost at the Court of Session, then they lost at the CJEU, then they lost again at the Court of Session before finally losing at the Supreme Court. At every stage they took as long as possible to seek leave to appeal. They knew it was a legitimate and lawful policy. They knew it had nothing to do with whisky. They didn't care. They just wanted to kick it down the line for as long as they could, so they could exploit ill, addicted and impoverished drinkers. Looks like people are dead because of that delay. Last year SWA member Diageo reported £3.7 billion operating profit on sales of £12.2 billion. That's a very fat margin. Their CEO got paid £11.7 million in salary and incentives. Minimum alcohol pricing was always worth giving a go. There was enough evidence and enough justification to try it and at least see if it worked. I'm glad that the first indications are positive, but I'm struggling not to let that be overshadowed by anger at the c***s who put it back years for no other reason than to make themselves even more obscenely rich.

  7. Basic summary of Danny at Alloa- He took over from Barry Smith when we looked certainties to be relegated from the Championship. There were 2 other part time teams in the league- Cowdenbeath and Dumbarton. He rallied the team and injected some new ideas and spirit. He picked up some big results, relegating Cowden and managed to seal 9th place and an escape route via the playoffs. Led the team to the great escape playoff final win over Forfar. We didnt play badly in the first leg at Station Park but lost 3 1. But won the second leg 3 0 in one of the best days Ive experienced as a supporter. Then the cracks started. He wanted to use the budget to build a bigger squad. We still had a core of excellent players from the Paul Hartley era. He seemed quite "take it or leave it" in terms of offering new contracts to those guys (this is the players accounts- not my opinion). The majority of them left. He wanted to build a larger pool with the budget, but ended up considerably diluting the quality. His recruitment was very haphazard that summer and we were very poor. He was sacked in early December. I watched lots of his training sessions. He worked on shape shape shape. They were hugely tactically orientated and very interesting. He clearly knew his game inside out and they were great to watch from the stand. However the players spent most of these sessions standing on the pitch in their positions and listening to him. Bearing in mind they trained two nights a week only. They hated it. Also worth mentioning Danny is one of the nicest guys Ive ever met in football. I write for the match programme and early in his bad season, he summoned me to his office. He told me he read my articles every fortnight and how much he really appreciated the backing and support I was trying to give him. Ive written for the programme for 12 years and no other manager at the club has taken the time to do this. I assume hes changed his methods somewhat at Clyde because hes done really well there. So the assumption is correct that his methods at Alloa were not suited to part time level. His rebuilding strategy may have worked in League 1, but in the Championship we were toast. However, I certainly think Danny would be a level above Caldwell as Thistle manager. Thistle have quality in their ranks- he will create a bit of unity and get more out of them

  8. I like JTS’s sentiment but I’m going to veer towards my cynical side and say it’s an expression of the ‘look at me, I’m grieving’ culture that has gripped many these days.

  17. My take. 1. Johnson campaigning when he should be trying to sort out Brexit. 2. Father of ill child, who happens to be a Labour activist, pointing out Johnson’s politicking. 3. Kuenssberg trying to see how far she can stick her tongue up the Tory arse. Again.

  19. Is anyone actually bothered by the 2014 result now? I’m pretty much over it. It was a sickener at the time but as the years have passed I’ve come to realise that everything else that’s happened since then has only strengthened the argument for independence and has put Yessers in a far stronger position to win an indyref2. Feels like there’s more justification for it. I mean, it’s inevitable really. Even if we lost the second referendum there would be a third and so on until it happens because more and more people are slowly realising the potential. It’s never going away.

  21. Out of the blue (for me certainly) but that’s a needed signing if the duggan injury is keeping him out for longer. Seems like a lad that needs to drop down the leagues to establish himself. the amount of chances we create he will have plenty of opportunity to rack up good numbers well done the board for backing the gaffer yet again.

  22. I wouldn't get too hung up on financial projections. The treasurer could rattle up something in five minutes and it wouldn't be worth the fag packet it was written on if we are relegated. All you need to know is that if we get sucked into the vortex of the Lowland League, we will struggle to recover our position, stature and financial-wise. Income there will be less (lower gate receipts and SFA / SPFL grants) and costs (e.g. match balls and officials have to be paid for whilst they don't have to be in the SPFL) may well go up. There is no financial case here that really needs to be considered; that's not the issue. Queen's have cut their cloth accordingly for 152 years and I'm sure they'd continue to do so, whatever the outcome. The issue is saving ourselves from relegation. We're fecked if we go down; dead simple - in every sense of the word. I wouldn't be interested in even entertaining the idea of professionalism if the situation were otherwise.

  24. I've been impressed with how Motherwell operate middle-to-front. Liam Polworth is proving his credentials. The ability of other players (eg Seedorf and Donnelly) to drive at defences will go a long way to Motherwell having a good season IMO. None of that will matter one jot, however, coming up against Joe Chalmers as the holding midfielder.

  29. If we want your manager, we’ll have him. If we want any of your players, we’ll have them. I don’t think we need to worry about the beast, though. He’s already at the only club in Scottish football desperate and tragic enough to tolerate him.
