1. Grew up in Inverness myself, mother is white, biological father is black so I was one of the few ethnically diverse in town at the time. I have barely ever experienced any racism at all anywhere in Scotland, and the couple of times I have it has been purely a lazy insult rather than actual hatred, such as being called a "black b*****d" once by someone who was hard of thinking - was clearly just the first thing that came to their mind, could easily have been "speccy b*****d" or "fat b*****d" - not that this makes it excusable. I've always thought that there are very few genuinely racist people in Scotland, there's a difference between actual racists who believe that those different to them are lesser human beings and people ignorant/thick enough to chuck ill-advised insults about. On the very rare occasions that someone has come out with something racist in Inverness they have been utterly hounded by people in the vicinity, by friends and total strangers alike. Best example would be when I was on my way home late on a Saturday night, there was a couple walking with their pal, a guy who was absolutely bollocksed. He did a shit monkey impression and slurred something about me wanting a banana as I passed, I just said "Aye, whatever mate," and kept walking. To this day I have never seen such a look of shock, horror and utter revulsion as on the faces of the couple he was with. Could tell he would be getting torn to shreds by them when he was sober enough. That reaction of disgust has been mirrored on each of the less than half a dozen times someone has come out with something about my colour, it has seen the offender chased out of pubs, shouted down etc. In my experience the vast majority of Invernessians and Scots in general find that behaviour abhorrent and the reaction makes me proud that it won't be tolerated in my city/country. Purely my experiences though, I fully accept that perhaps I've been incredibly lucky and also that things could be different growing up in bigger cities, as ICTChris says, or for people of different ethnic backgrounds as other posters have alluded to. However, I find the Makar's claim that we're decades behind England wild to be honest.

  2. Let's be honest. Nobody saw that coming when we were 2-0 down. The performance from the moment Jason Brown squeezed the ball beyond Conor Brennan was such an improvement it was bizarre. We looked a different team; Duffy spoke about a change in formation, and we certainly had a lot more width. I spent the second-half behind the goal so couldn't see for sure, but it looked a bit like we switched to a 4-1-4-1 with Hutton protecting, Langan and McKee in front of him, Scullion and Crossan flying down the wings and Layne leading the line. The difference was incredible. I'll start with the negatives though. Defensively we're still suspect, there's no doubt about it. The distribution from our back four is absolutely woeful at times, although having Hutton in front of them to take the ball from them made a big difference. I also thought big Morgyn Neill had a decent game, and it was nice to see him celebrating like a madman at the final whistle. But that wasn't a performance where you focus on the negatives, so I'll talk about all the good stuff. And there was loads, even if Peterhead probably aren't the toughest opponents we'll face. PJ Crossan was the biggest plus. He was absolutely unplayable, and poor Jason Brown no doubt had nightmares about him last night. He made setting up the first goal look so, so easy, skipping beyond a challenge and knocking it back for Langan like he was in training. We know how gifted a player he is, it's just his final ball that lets him down, but yesterday his final ball was spot on, his goal was lovely and only an excellent Greg Fleming denied Ryan Tierney a carbon copy of the first goal after he again skipped down the wing. Big Isaac Layne was bizarre. In the first-half he was absolutely awful. He kind of jogged about, and sometimes tried to jump only to be totally dominated by Mick Dunlop in the air. Fast-forward to the 42nd minute and his lay off started the move that lead to the second goal. And suddenly he looked a different player. He was holding play up really well, driving with the ball, winning flick-ons, making decent runs and won the foul from which he nodded in the winner. Duffy was quick to highlight post-match how little football he's played, but if he can get him replicating that performance consistently then we might just have an unexpected player on our hands. Crossan and Layne will be the headline grabbers, but there were a few other notable performances. Joe McKee buzzed about always looking for a ball, kept his passing very tidy and grabbed a couple of assists. As soon as he was released from that narrow midfield three he looked a totally different player. The same goes for Ruaridh Langan. I thought he had something about him the first time I saw him, but he was clearly uncomfortable on the right in the 4-3-3. Given a bit more space he looked good today, breaking up play, bouncing quick wee passes about and charging forward. His goal was a really good finish too. Especially from a more defensively minded midfielder. Conor Scullion probably deserves a mention too. There's no doubt he's lightweight, but he doesn't hide, is always looking to run with the ball and seems to have that wee bit of confidence you need from a winger. His workrate was excellent and he matched Paddy Boyle going forwards pretty much all game. Does one result change how I feel about things? Nope. Not really. But it's a huge confidence boost for the players, especially given the circumstances, and there were undoubtedly plenty of signs that we'll be able to compete with the other part-time sides. This time last week I didn't feel like that would be the case. GoalCam is now up by the way.

  4. Hes a Whitehill Welfare fan, who spends thousands upon thousands following an English club that was successful when he was young. He'll mock anyone who is on thread for watching English football though, and if you dare to reply he'll follow you around the forum for the next year red dotting all your posts and bringing up Liverpool in every single thread he can reply to you in. 8mile tries to crawl up his arse all the time aswell.

  5. Looking at this from another angle, I don't see why McGlynn should be able to act like a dick and then it's just edited out as if it didn't happen. It's unprofessional and is hopefully the last time we're discussing this. McGlynn being embarrassed about this and not doing it again would be a good outcome.

  6. Wow. Having just watched the interview, I reckon you'ld have to wipe out four of the six minutes in order to save your manager looking as ignorant as he did. From his comment about a defender on just over the two minute mark, to asking if the interviewer could count, to how he reacted about big deals and getting excited, to continually looking away from the camera , to dissing the inquiry about injuries by saying "not gonna change", his whole demeanour was one of utter contempt for the interviewer. That needs a lot more than a "wee tweak". Our own TV volunteers had a similar problem with Paul Hartley. It not only shone through in interviews, but was highlighted when the volunteers made some extremely gleeful comments on social media after it was announced that he'd been sacked. If the volunteers don't have their work edited by a club official before publishing then they were right to put it out in full. If someone talked to me as if I were a piece of shit I'd want the world to know about it too.

  7. We have temporary portable lights, which were purchased at considerable cost to the club, for the enclosure side which we can use until the council granted lights get fitted. The planning application is in and should be approved very soon. With no home games scheduled so far in September it gives us a good chance to get them up. We were asked by the licencing committee to provide lighting calculations for the portables and this was approved by the committee and SFA.

  8. over the past year our dug started to struggle with his back legs. we tried loads of options including hydrotherapy, moving/massaging his legs when he lay down, laser treatment, as well as antibiotics. however he was 15 years old and arthritis had just gotten the better of him - he was a medium/bigger sized dog and the signs were all there that his legs would go. he now has lost all use of his back legs. However we got him a dog carriage and he cuts about as happy as anything. its such a joy knowing that however long he has left, he can still go out for walks and we don't need to consider putting him down to sustain quality of life (at least for arthritis anyway). Its an absolute pain lumphing him about the house when he is not in the carriage but although it was a wee bit pricey, it was worth it:

  9. It was fantastic, great to see our wee club debut in the Scottish Cup. A tremendous achievement by everyone involved to get to where we are, looking forward to it again next year. Thanks for asking.

  10. This had been covered many times. I was at in the EoS meeting, with RP and IM who seemed confused about an "objection to the juniors". It was made clear to them on the night that there was no objection to the juniors, the objection was to an overlapping league in the East, where a feeder league already existed. The example given was more than sensible. If we are saying that when we onboard different grades to the pyramid that they can run their own over lapping league's, does that mean that when the central amateur league covering the West wants to join they can come in at Tier 6 alongside the West region, then the Caley league at Tier 6 alongside that, or the LEAFA at Tier 6 alongside the EoS and ERSJFA. The pyramid is regional at the lower levels, if you already have a league representing that region, you join that league. In the case of the West, there's no league currently, so that completes the Tier 6 structure regionally, if the central ams want to join later, they join below that and so on. A straw poll was taken in the room when one delegate made clear the West was more than welcome to join from this season and the ERSJFA south of tay clubs miss than welcome to join the EoS T7 conferences. It was also pointed out that the ERSJFA already having split North and South made that easier. Not a single dissenting voice, everyone who had their say from the EoS league WANTED the West Juniors in and we're happy for the East teams to join EoS. From that point it was over to TJ to drop his ludicrous all (except the North cos that suits) or nothing stance. The SJFA continued to insist no West without East. As far as I'm concerned the EoS clubs were the ones championing the West Region move. The insistence by the juniors that the West couldn't go without the East is what stopped your club being in the Pyramid this year, not the EoS or LL.

  14. I think McShane is good at what he does. It’s not spectacular but he’s simply there to collect the ball from the defence and link to the forward players. He gets criticism for not always going forward but you could flip that and say the players further forward aren’t creating space or looking for the ball. Yes he’ll miss place a pass but he’s hardly a world beater where he’ll have a 100% pass completion rate. By doing this, McShane allows Tidser and Telfer to go and play further up the park. That’s just how I see it mind you.

  15. Our application was accepted last month, just putting the final touches to things before getting the auditor in. New toilets, covered enclosure, screen fencing, pathways, signage etc. are all now installed, first used for our game against Peebles Wednesday night. Disabled viewing area next to the enclosure being fabricated now, should be in soon.

  16. You’re now just embarrassing yourself, your team and making the junior supporters look shallow again, just like you mates have done before. Please stop.... So far this season I’ve been to 5 ERSJFA games and just spent the last 2 hours tidying their clubhouse... now tell me again that I am on the wrong forum

  20. Week 33 update Nothing doing this week, so I think it's time I put an idea I've had into practice. In weeks where there are no scorers I'm going to post about someone notable who did die that week, and teach us all about them. This week, Jose Luis Brown: https://thesefootballtimes.co/2019/04/10/yes-you-scored-a-goal-in-a-world-cup-final-the-unexpected-legend-of-jose-luis-brown/ First off, look at those eyebrows: Secondly, I can't recommend reading that feature enough. I don't want to pull out passages from it, but I'll give you the important bits. He was a descendant of James Brown, who moved to Argentina from Leith in 1825. He was injured and let go by his club at the end of the 1986 season. He played every minute of the 1986 World Cup and scored Argentina's first goal in the final. He died this week at 62, after suffering from Alzheimer's. I'm not sure of the maths, but it's nice to know that Scotland can claim about 1/1000th of a World Cup win. Maybe a bit more if you consider the influence of Alexander Watson Hutton. I hope you're all looking forward to learning about people in the coming weeks.

  23. McGlynn makes a tit of him self and some r saying don't post the interview in full ? So after someone was an utter dick to you, the guys at RaithTV should waste more time making him look good!? The interview would have been pointless if that was the case. Manager is in the wrong here not the folks at RaithTV all credit to them and thanks for what you all do for us and the club we're lucky to have them!!! McGlynn should be coming out and say sorry, if any player did it he would make them come out and apologise for having a reekin attitude.

  27. It's the managers responsibility to speak to his own website, media outlets. It shows a lack of professionalism if he cant conduct himself in a proper manner regardless of the result. Fans want answers and he is the spokesperson and the most responsible.
    7 points
  28. It's certainly soured my opinion of him. I can't speak for Davie (or any of the other members of RaithTV), but if I was travelling up and down Scotland on my own coin for a good number of years, volunteering time to set up equipment and then waiting after games to do interviews, only to get responses like that I'd be saying "f**k that for a laugh". Fair enough, you've seen your team lose from a winning position, your board are running on the strictest possible budget and you're just out the dressing room but there's no need to have a go at someone who's doing something for the benefit of the club on their own back. His responses benefit nobody at the club. It makes McGlynn look like a c**t, it deters volunteers and it leaves fans raising questions.

  29. That's a brutal interview from McGlynn. I'm probably what you'd term a fanboy for McGlynn but he's well out of line with those responses to Davie. We had a solid start with two wins but the fans (and RaithTV) are absolutely right to ask questions of our defence.

  30. Glad the Sons fans that came up enjoyed their day, I spoke to a few before the game & unlike some visiting supports there was no moaning about how far it was up to Peterhead & although not a huge following thought it was better than many other teams, also seemed to be wee pockets of their supporters spread over the ground with as far as I could see everyone mixing fine, The game best forgotten from our point of view.

  31. This "MT is a Rangers/Celtic man" chat is horrendous, stop it. He spent the entire BRALT glory days getting ripped into old and new Rangers, and is constantly on Celtic's case in a European context especially. That's not to say his behaviour towards us since we got relegated has been acceptable at all, and his haunting of our threads is grim reading. But still.

  33. Yes the owners at @SlipperyP have stepped aside as they have taken us as far down as possible. A new Thai consortium will be in charge as from Monday morning. A fit and proper person report has been received and will not be filled out, due diligence in this league in all honesty is a laughing matter. We will head out to win everything, but with style. Ends Statement.

  34. We’re not going to win the league, and never were, by rights of Falkirk landing down here. If we can finish 2nd or even a close 3rd again then really that’s fine to be honest. The game today sounds a lot like the 3-2 up at Forfar last year, which isn’t terrible as I felt that game was one we’d kick on from but alas it’s took Hendry from us and we all know the rest. Stranraer isn’t an easy place at the best of times, if we don’t get a good result next week then maybe we can be a smidge concerned but I fancy we’ll be fine. Ro Sham Bo though, he has proven himself to be an idiot on here time and again. It is best to just to ignore his dribblings and droolings.

  37. He'll probably not understand that there are people who just like football and don't care what "grade" it is. My last 5 competitive games I went to were: junior, senior non-league (Highland League), amateur, SPFL and Scottish Cup (junior v EOS). And guess what? I enjoyed them all.

  38. Last two seasons or so, we could not even compete with that club, let alone get a positive performance and result. Have faith in McPake, he knows like we do, we still lack strength in depth regarding the current pool. The additional presence of Kane Hemmings today and the game was probably ours. He plays his cards close he does, expect other interesting arrivals. Exciting times!!! Best regards

  39. We travel to games on our own dime. The money we generate goes into the club, some of it comes back out to pay for new equipment but a lot of our stuff is also donated from our kind sponsors and supporters. Some volunteers may also rearrange work shifts to make sure we have appropriate cover. So the more people who subscribe, in a sense, the more money goes into the club.

Comparisons with Paul Paton are ludicrous and if he’s making that kinda contribution without being on top of his game then I’ll take it

  47. I understand that people aren't happy with his current tenure, but calling Mcglynn a failure in his first term just smacks of biterness. Disliking a manager is one thing, but re writing history to justify it is another. He came into the club when it was an absolute mess and the team were 9th in this league. He then improved the league position for 5 seasons in a row, giving us our highest league finish in the last 20 years. Getting Dalziels team to 4th was a minor miracle. He improved the team the following season and we were up there with Ross County til about Xmas (who had a budget that far exceeded ours) . Then he won the league, kept us up (with a Scottish Cup Semi Final) then launched a title challenge in the league above as well. Some failure.
