  1. So Turnbull's fucked Celtic about for a laugh, got himself a move to the Premier League and an extra £250k for the club? The boy genuinely has Scottish football on strings

  2. All of the signings so far have been absolutely OK. I don’t honestly know who some of our fans thought we’d be signing.

  4. Think people are forgetting what league we are in when we are signing these players. ‘Ah but Housty would have got slagged if he signed them!!?!’ Aye you’re right, we were aiming to win the championship with him, not league one. ‘These players won’t get us double promotion!!?!’ Apart from Livingston name me one team in the last 10 years that has gained double promotion from league one? We were a terrible championship team for the past two years.

  8. Hi there all Junior Fans, I'm continually receiving calls and messages asking about the release of fixtures. So just for clarity, the fixture list is ready and will be released to the clubs at the AGM of the West Region, which takes place on Wednesday 26th June. They will then go live on the website following that meeting. But, for those of you that are desperate for news, you should be able to work out the first 3 fixtures of the season in the Sectional League Cup. Fixtures are moved on a day and reversed from what they were last season. So, Game 2 is now Game 1, Game 3 is now Game 2 and Game 1 is now Game 3. If you were at home in any of the games you will now be away in the corresponding fixture and vice-versa for any away games. Kennie Young Fixture Secretary (WRSJFA)

  9. No doubt you'll have some evidence of him "turning down" Celtic? How about the Celtic FC statement itself?

  10. Got to say I am happy so far with the quality of signing we have brought in for League 1. I didn't think we had a chanceof getting Tidser at this level and Telfer is an excellent signing. Still not renewing till the board gtf though.

  13. Another new sub forum, this moving hoose every year malarky is quite exciting. New boys again and we will be looked at by the incumbents to see what we are made of and prove our worth in this league. Reading the last few pages about where we might end up in this league is interesting, surely every team going into the season thinks their team can finish first......no? I would be really disappointed if our aim was anything other than to win the league, we have shown over the games we have played against LL sides that we are a capable side. This isnt saying its easy and winning is expected but we are a good team. Yeah EK must be favourites and rightly so, Bonnyrigg might not even be in the top 5 favourites at the bookies but i am just looking forward to more competitive games and i think we will thrive on the challenge week to week rather than getting 1 tough game in every 5, as per last seasons opponents which left us not as sharp some weeks as we maybe should have been. Will we win it? Who knows, but i for one am certainly looking forward to this coming season as much as i have to any in the last 20 years. Extremely glad to be here and bring on the Lowland League, i genuinely hope the current members will feel we can bring something that adds to the set up.

  17. I'm not sure Duffy is any better in that respect tbh, if anything Duffy is more connected to the media than Aitken (I still think Duffy was daft as hell doing his negotiating over budgets in the public during the summer). I think where they differ is that Aitken probably cared more about the perception of his signings, so would put out teasers to appease fans that he knew what he was doing (see; Porteous, Ryan and Penrice, James), whereas I really don't think Duffy gives a toss how his signings are perceived. There's a lot that Duffy appears, at least to the outside observer, that he doesn't give too much of a toss about. On my earlier point about Duffy doing his negotiating with budgets in the public eye, it's partly (or perhaps solely) to blame for the disillusionment you see in Sons fans on here. Before it was confirmed Duffy was staying, John Steele said he wanted top 4. Duffy said he'd only stay if he had a budget that could challenge. At that point, everyone's on the same page - manager wants top 4, chairman wants top 4, fans happy to challenge for top 4. Duffy agrees to stay, all but Hutton and Brennan leave almost immediately. East Stirlingshire outbid us for one of our players, two leave to similar sized clubs in our league, our best defender drops a league to play for well known financial strugglers in Cowdenbeath. The chat in the summer doesn't tie in with what we've seen so far and that leads to folk asking questions. I pray Duffy has something up his sleeve, but I do feel perhaps an interview with him or John Steele could clarify what our current position is and if our aim remains the top 4 (I suspect we're aiming lower now). I'm fine with us taking a punt on a couple of junior players - for 3 years now folk have been moaning about not having someone like Garry Fleming in the squad but the same folk are on that facebook page moaning that we're signing folk from the same level Garry was at before he came to us (if anything McCluskey has had a better SPFL career than Fleming). Where it will be an issue is if we have too many young players from a lower level and we need them to hit the ground running. Playing the "this might not be as bad as it seems" card, Brennan looked fine in his brief appearances for us and if anything has a bit of experience at this level and higher. Morgyn Neill has played a good number of games at this level and is still young/could improve, McCluskey has had a similar career path to a former Sons hero and has experience at this level and higher, Kyle Hutton we know what we're getting and if Carswell signs up we at least know we what we have in midfield (even though most of us know we need more than those two in there). I won't exhaust the Jim Lister cliche again, but f**k knows, Layne might be okay. I understand how desperate that last paragraph reads, and I do have the same fears as others, but I'm refraining from writing anyone off until we've seen them together as a team. We won promotion from this league with James Creaney and Martin McNiff in defence, next to a 16 year old Ryan Finnie. Strange things can happen.

  18. I mind one time at English and the teacher had left the room but left the door open. From the other side of the class a loud parp richocheted off the chair to a Motson-esque cry of "ONE NIL". Within a nanosecond I replied with a lengthy rasper "AND THERE'S THE EQUALISER". Unbeknown to us our teacher was just outside, had heard all this and popped his head round the door to say "the next one who scores will be going to see the Head Teacher".

  19. The signings he’s made (so far) are more than decent for League 1. Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves and concentrate on getting out this league before anything else. If he does indeed bring in Telfer, Durnan, Gillespie, Bell & Doolan then we are very strong favourites for this league & McKinnon needs to start well.

  22. I'd agree with this. If we're going to have a shite team because that's all the budget can stretch to, that's fine. I think what most fans take issue with is being spun aspirations of top 4, when that's complete fantasy. And for those who say 'they're hardly going to come out and tell us publicly that there's no money', that's fine, but there's certainly no need to come out and paint a completely false narrative. That just causes further disillusionment and frustration.

  26. TBH am not to bothered about RMcK "old pals act" signing policy, it's actually a bit of what we need after 2/3 windows of largely unknown signings. most of whom have came in so far i would describe as mid championship players and as we are are in L1 that's not to bad going, and at the end of the day a manager has to trust his players and Ray obv trusts who he is bringing in. Need to remember there is still a large amount of players to come in and i'm sure some will be unknown quantities but im happy them being in the minority this season.

  27. Seems like we’re building a fairly solid/average Championship team which in theory should walk this league. Of course there’s still many more signings to go but think some people need to remember what level we’re at. We’ve also had people complaining about having to build a new squad every summer and now we’re handing out 2 year deals that’s not good enough either. I think we’ve shown over the last couple of seasons that length of contract is kind of irrelevant. Last summer Petravicius, Paton, Dallison and Lewis all signed 2 year deals and none will be playing with us next season kind of proves that.

  28. And so ends the career of perhaps my favourite ever Killie player. The last one to come through the ranks who was older than me, and with his retirement I feel ends a last link to my childhood. Happy retirement Kris Boyd, what a forward.

  29. Pleased for Byrne to get a nice big pay packet and long term security. The lads had a hard time with events in his life at a young age and I wish him nothing but the best. Always had evident talent coming through at Dunfermline but we just couldn't develop the rougher/streetwise side of his game. Livi managed to get that out of him and Dundee are getting a more rounded player. Impressive signing for this league.

  30. These two posts were made at this time last year (a couple of days later actually), complaining about the lack of signings. Let's be honest, we have no real clue about what's going on behind the scenes and getting all worried about it helps no-one. McCall kicking off in the press doesn't sound good but might just be a warning shot across the bows of the owners. Or he might be planning his exit - who knows. I'm a pretty big fan of the gaffer but we're bigger than any manager and the show would very much go on. Let's just enjoy the off-season and discuss it all with a bit of perspective. Someone used the word 'grave' a wee while ago. Fucking grave? Come on. We're all just guessing here.

  33. I was at that League Cup final. My dad was from Maryhill, he was more into Junior football and boxing than senior fitba’ though. Anyway, he wanted to go to see Thistle in a final, and as a wee boy, I was in the main stand at Hampden with him that day.

  34. I have no issue with other teams fans predicting we'll be finish bottom/ in the bottom two - that's my prediction too I think deep down the vast majority know the chances of us finishing 8th or above is unlikely but if we can get the right signings in, add some good loans at the right times/ in the right places over the season, have a good year injury wise and Dick approaches things in the right way of course we can stay up. Longer term, whatever happens this season our aim has to be to establish ourselves as a lower Championship/ top end League 1 club over the next 5/10 years in my opinion. I completely agree regarding sticking behind the team, there is a superb feeling about the club on and off the park at the moment and even if really struggle next year it's up to everyone to try and keep that feeling going. Personally I hope our fans will treat the 'big' away games more like cup ties; good away followings at grounds we rarely get to see with a loud, 'boisterous' (and by boisterous I mean pished) support getting behind, and staying behind, the team.

  35. Add me to this pile. Andy Morrison is a really hateable guy, even more so now that I've just found out he is an official Fan Ambassador for Manchester City. His wiki is clearly written by him too, given it's longer than War and Peace and full of stories about how brilliant he is.

  38. No idea why you got that odd response. Stirling should be a good signing for you. He's a grafter that also possesses a bit of quality and will chip in with the odd goal. When he initially joined us I was actually really disappointed with his performances but after Christmas he really kicked on. Our front line of Stirling, Vaughan, Thomson and Nade was absolutely frightening for the second half of that season. We also had Stanton pulling the strings which allowed them to flourish. His 2nd spell was a bit average but that wasn't really his fault. He was playing in one of the most negative sides I've ever witnessed. I'm away for a wee cry at the thought of Dumbarton FC having a team containing Vaughan, Stirling, Thomson and Stanton. How the mighty have fallen.

  45. Back when I was an apprentice, I'd been out on the Thursday night in Archaos until closing time, then got home had a couple of hours kip and got picked up by the engineer who was training me. Our first job was at the old, now no longer there, Royal Bank of Scotland on St Enoch square. I was quite looking forward to it on the way in as I knew a mates, very tidy ex bird, worked in there. As we drove to it though, my still pished state gave way to an increasingly crippling hangover. Once we got there, the engineer took pity on me and told me to sit in one of the chairs in the waiting area as we wouldn't be long. The very tidy bird was indeed working and came over to have a chat. By this point I could barely speak and as she was blethering away I realised that I was going to fart. In my state I couldn't even muster up the effort to try and stop it and pathetically let out a long, high pitched revelery akin to a balloon being slowly let down. It went on forever. Then the stench followed. She got up and walked away without saying goodbye. Luckily I've never saw her again.
