  1. Signings are probably Caldwell's best contribution to the club so far. I still think he's questionable tactically, his interviews are delusional and he generally comes across as pretty similar to Gordon Strachan in that stubborn kind of arrogance that's just annoying to listen to, but overall his signings have been very good. Ally Roy was the only properly shite signing Caldwell made, unless I'm missing someone. Anderson, Saunders, McMillan, Cardle and McDonald all made positive contributions, albeit with some shaky moments mixed in. Mansell was actually pretty effective in his limited appearances. Harkins replacing Erskine was a poor decision, but Harkins is more in the 'what's the point?' department than actually shite. Archie signed Bell, Lennox, O'Ware, McGinty, Scobbie, Jefferies, Melbourne, Gordon, Slater, Ntambwe, Storer, Mutombo, Quitongo. Archie never had a particularly good signing ratio, but that list is fucking grim. Slater gets pass marks, McGinty was 75% shite/25% good, a couple of long term injuries and a pile of utter muck.

  2. Let's see. Nigh on a decade of stagnation and underachievement in the 1st div/championship, culminating in the biggest clusterf**k of a season in the club's history, relegation to the seaside league, all the while treating the supporters with sheer, naked, visceral contempt and an MSG happy to hide behind a couple of idiots as they make one balls-up after another and cost the club an absolute fortune. Thank God they care. I'd hate to see the state we'd be in if they didn't. The very same scheme you spent weeks and weeks decrying not so very long ago? Time you went off and supported Albion Rovers or whoever your Cabin Boy Kidd ends up signing for. Who's that precontract with again?

  3. Better than I had imagined. Still hoping Raith stay down but Queens would be OK. Rangers aside you must be with Dunfermline the "biggest" club to sink to Div1. Rangers didn't sink to Div 1, like an unwelcome turd they started from the bottom and eventually floated to the top.

  4. She will spin like a fucking top and then tell us all that Boris is the man. This will be followed by the inter-exchange of separation, Nicola Sturgeon, independence, divisive referendums. All the while conspicuously ignoring that her party are responsible for 100% of all recent divisive referendums. Boot.

  12. Why bother following football if you're not going to make the trip to Dumfries? You don't finish 9th in a terrible Championship, with a 40+ goal striker, because you're good at defending or able to cope with pressure. This Rovers side is far from perfect, but neither are Queens. This tie is by no means finished.

  17. Don't particularly like trivialising substance abuse and addiction, which is probably why I could never be an Aberdeen fan as they seem to talk about nothing else. But if we're going to play that game, let's look at the facts: Like every British city that has suffered through austerity (thanks again for voting these Tory c***s in, by the way), Aberdeen has its own problem with drugs. According to this article, the number of drug-related deaths in Aberdeen more than doubled between 2014 and 2017. In order to avoid having to look at their embarrassing cup record of the past 30 years, Aberdeen fans have become fairly obsessed with their league tables. So on that note, here's a table that might open your eyes, make you realise your city has a drug problem like almost any other, and help you cut out the Trainspotting patter. Highest Drug-Death Rates in Scotland: Dundee Glasgow Inverclyde Aberdeen East Ayrshire Renfrewshire West Dunbartonshire City of Edinburgh Maybe it's time to look a bit closer to home and stop letting a film from 23 years ago live rent free inside your head.

  18. Had a wee peek on Caley Online forum, and the amount of whining on there about the red card is something else. Walsh had already given Donaldson the benefit of the doubt (twice) before Polworth gave him another decision to make. This time he chose red. All but a few folk on there recognise this. Was it borderline? Perhaps but these things happen in football. 2 years ago, in the playoff final against Hamilton at Tannadice, 10 minutes before the end, when Hamilton were out on their feet, Simon Murray got sent off for diving in the box. It was as stonewall a penalty as you’ll ever see, with the ref yards away and the linesman even closer. Murray was taken down from behind, and the Accies defender got nowhere near the ball. Had the correct decision been made, we would have kept all 11 men on the park against a knackered Accies, team who had used all their subs and in all likelihood we would have scored the penalty and taken at least a 1-0 lead to Hamilton with us for the second leg. The correct decision was not made, we didn’t, we got beat and we are still stuck in the fucking championship. This was a far more glaring error than the perceived one in question in Tuesday’s match. Like I said sometimes decisions go against you. Suck it up and move on.

  19. Glad to be of service The tie from last night obviously isn't over yet, you never know. But too many argue about your team's lack of bottle. It's nothing to do with that, it's a lack of quality. You've a team of part-time players (See Duggan, Buchanan, Flanagan) that Smith decided to make full time, combined with an aging Davidson, a horrible goalkeeping rotation and a relatively poor midfield sans-Vaughan. It's nothing to do with bottle, the balance of the squad is of course horrendous but the players that were signed in the first place aren't good enough anyway. I think a clear out in the summer could do Raith the world of good. You can't keep holding onto players that have proven they're not good enough on multiple occasions. It's not for me to say but if you punted Buchanan, Duggan, Wedderburn, Gillespie, Flanagan, Davidson plus every single one of your keepers you might be able to assemble a reasonable squad with the freed up wages. By jove, you might even sign a right back! I won't get into the part-time/full-time/hybrid argument again, that's a debate for your board to have depending on whether you can rescue it on Saturday.

  20. I used to dread phone calls to/from my sister when her bairns were wee. Despite me begging her not to; she would always, always, always put the kid on to "Say hello to Uncle Shotgun...say hello to Uncle Shotgun...say hello to Uncle Shotgun." I'd then have to listen to the kid breathing at long-distance rates. One time after what seemed like about 6 hours of this, I hung up and the resulting shit storm very nearly got me scratched out of the family tree.

  22. There was a time when a man could sleep easy in his bed, safe in the knowledge that any nocturnal intruders could be swiftly beaten to death with the iron-framed rotary telephone provided by British Telecommunications (in exchange for a nominal rental fee). In this age of avocado toast and blue hair, it should be no surprise that the powers-that-be have forcibly replaced our trusty corded friends with cheap receivers fashioned from lightweight petrochemical by-products, some of which may not even have been manufactured in Great Britain. Needless to say, none of the most popular models stand up to even light use in physical combat, and lack even the fall-back of cabling to use as a garrote. One can only wonder what our millennial brethren intend to do when confronted by a naked madman in their bedroom, come the wee small hours.

  32. I also heard yesterday that regionalisation will make it much more attractive for locals to go to games. They really live in their own bubble. The most loyal fans will come regardless, but with the horrendous league structure that's being proposed, I highly doubt many other people will feel tempted to pop along. As someone who doesn't follow a particular team I enjoy going to different places to watch football. If this regionalisation will go ahead, I don't think I'll bother much with the East juniors, especially the southern half. At best I'll go to the odd game near where I live. It's like saying that Dundee United, Dundee FC and St. Johnstone should move out of the current league structure with regular games against big clubs (I know Dundee and possibly United are Championship next season, but they have played top flight before and will return sooner or later). Instead of that, they should form a Tayside league with the likes of Arbroath, Montrose, Forfar, Brechin and Jeanfield Swifts because there are more derbies. Maybe early in the very first season some of those derbies will attract a decent interest, but people will soon get bored with derbies every week...

  33. How the East Superleague should have been right from the outset. Tayside always should have been in with the North region and Whitburn didn't want in back then either.

  34. Maybe peer pressure? So many kids at that age don't want to stand out. They don't want to say something that could get them mocked. I've seen it with youth football teams too - boys doing the bare minimum to seem "cool". Doesn't sound an especially new phenomenom. I'm always surprised at just how much brighter my kid and her pals are than I remember being at their age. There also seem to be much more tolerant and accepting about stuff like sexuality, care about the environment and the advent of smart phones allows them to be creative, not just antisocial.

  39. Fair play to him for coming out in front of fans to do all that, when I don't think he really had to at all, a nice touch. Sounds like he put a fair amount of time and effort into it as well. Kinda doubt it will do anything to silence the perpetual moaning b*****ds within our support though. A thanks to those in attendance for posting up details of what was discussed. I think one of the most impressive things from that, was the budget used in January. Ensured survival, but also hoping that's given us quite a sizeable amount to work with going into the start of next season.

  42. McGlynn will stick around. You can point out how he didn't fix the defensive frailties, but he did also work to improve our attacking options and had to cope with replacing injuries as well. I'd be confident that given the summer he'd at least have a plan for what he wanted next year, unlike the previous summer where Smith seemed to have no real focus for his transfers other than who was immediately available and who's phone number he had.

  43. You’ve been “lucky” you haven’t heard someone wrongly referring to the name of a league in the wrong fashion? And respond in the first instance that you do by branding someone “a dribbling idiot”? Do you sometimes worry you take things too seriously?

  44. He has very set ideas on the game all of which were laid bare in the presentation. You get the feeling that if the players dont follow his ideas on the game they will get shipped out fast, like in January. He has a toughness and enthusiasm about him that I like. Think its time we all gave him a break and got behind him. He is under no illusion that if the team doesnt hit the ground running this season that his job is on the line.

    5 points
  47. Let's be absolutely clear, if the SFA appoint Scot Gemmill it will rank amongst the worst decisions they have ever made (and there's a lot of competition). They would be appointing a guy with absolutely no management experience at a senior level and with a less than sterling record as a youth team coach purely to save a few pennies.
