  1. Thank you very much for the comments and feedback about the show over the last few weeks - it's great to read it's struck a chord with supporters and we're delighted with how it's been received so far. We're still learning as we go and trying to make each episode better than the last. Working on the show has been the best fun I've ever had in my life and I'm delighted to have the chance to continue up until the Scottish Cup final. We hope you keep on watching until then!

  2. Not sure where to put this so apologies in advance if it's a bit morbid for GN. You may have heard in the news about the death of Bradley Welsh. It may be "Film Star", "Boxing gym owner", "Former football hooligan", "Charity campaigner" or various other titles that are understandable yet in no way convey the breadth of the guy's contribution to life. I've never met anyone with his energy, enthusiasm, drive and sense of social justice. In recent months Brad has pulled the tail of Bauer Media, Jet 2 and racist football fans. Anyone who walked in his gym - whether it was a kid from an immigrant family looking for love and inclusion or a serious boxer - would get the same warm welcome and would be made to feel part of the family. He put on free football coaching for kids (even getting guys like Griffiths, Scott Brown, Lee Wallace to come along), free boxing training in communities, tirelessly raised money for charity, organised food banks. He brought together people from all walks of life to pool talent to be able to organise events for the underprivileged. His coaching has given a sense of self belief and purpose to thousands over the years. He leaves behind a lovely wee girl and his missus. On a personal level he has been a massively influential figure in terms of fitness, self confidence and enjoying life. Experiences like boxing at an Irvine Welsh book launch or boxing at Porty Town Hall, helping behind the scenes with events, introducing folk to sparring and helping them learn new skills are experiences I'll never forget and they're all down to him. Hundreds, even thousands of folk in Edinburgh will have the same sort of life-enriching stories. So, when you hear him mentioned in the news etc just take a second to reflect on what a colossal contribution Brad made to the lives of so many folk in Edinburgh. The drive that made him such a menace as a youngster was turned to a drive to help as many people as he could. He was a force of nature and utterly irreplaceable. RIP Wee Brad. Let me off just this once with mentioning boxing @Bobby Skidmarks !

  4. I certainly can't remember one. I'm sure there will be a lot of speculation over the motives for this, and many will point to his questionable past and perhaps shrug. However, Brad did loads for charity in Edinburgh, food banks through Helping Hands, kids school holiday boxing and football camps - free and supported by many well known SPFL players. I didn't agree with everything he did or said, but this is just awful. I last saw him teaching his wee girl to ride her bike in the Meadows a few weeks back which is a reminder that - whatever else - he was a dad, husband, brother, son.

  7. Can't believe the SFA still want to hammer this ridiculous plan through. If they want to impose change, then a better idea might be telling the remaining south of Tay east juniors to just join the EoS, make a Tayside league for the teams north of the Tay, and then it's a workable solution for the time being at least. No-one has any objection to the west juniors entering, and it seems that since the north juniors have never been mentioned, that there is no requirement for the juniors to enter as one bloc at the same time. So not sure why the SFA are so hell bent on something so stupid as two leagues at the same tier covering the same area. There is simply no need for that to happen, forced or otherwise.

  8. Obviously hoping for 3 points in this match but I'd happily take a draw here and I fully expect to be playing Ayr again in the top division next season. Undoubtedly the best opponents I've seen County play this season.

  9. Look at it this way, Fergie; if you/we keep obsessing over Johnny we're going a ways to proving his point of the fans being a naughty, toxic bunch who don't focus on the right things. JH was absolutely wrong to point his finger at us rather than at himself in the QP interview, so the last thing we want to do is actually give him a leg to stand on in this regard. The time for change has come and gone (I've previously posted in some detail that the week before QP was the time), and we hold no power beyond supporting the team (which is not necessarily supporting the manager); Cheer for every save Sean B., Kyle, and Ryan make Show up in droves for Adrian, Jack C., Andrew, Craig, Jordan, Boab, and Dougie. Shout your lungs out for Lewis, Cameron, Ross, Declan, Sean M., and Jack O. Clap 'til your hands bleed for Calum, Ahmed, Grant, Daryl, and Ousman Those are the boys who will keep us up, who I truly believe will give it their all to save the club. They deserve a set of fans who are united in being their twelfth man, rather than bickering over whether it's JH or Dom or Dom's dad who is manning the keyboard on P&B. The season's been shite for us and for our squad, but we still have more than a few shots at getting our happy end - one that we stand a bigger chance of clinching together. If you want to clap for ol' Johnny, do so - and if you don't want to, don't. If Clyde bum us 6 to 0, give him a few loud but well-intentioned shouts after the match - but for the love of the Tweed, stick 99% of your energy in supporting the team. I've been a lazy, absent c*nt myself and I know for a fact not all of my PB posts have been as supportive as they could have been, but I've a mind to fly up to Inverness and drag my arse to the Elgin game, and to Berwick for the second leg in a hypothetical play-off. Put my money and support for the club where my mouth is. I suggest we all do the same; from today all the way to the 18th of May if need be.

  10. If Petrie and Maxwell can't see the stupidity of having a parallel league covering the same geographic area as the one presently within their own organisation, then their ignorance is far greater than just about lower league football.

  11. They're derided as being Toonsers and city slickers by the other shire clubs, who by and large have half their teams come out from Aberdeen or the immediate vicinity on any given matchday. Keith need a bus to get all theirs back to Aberdeen after a game. They're smug and full of themselves, although by no means any more so than Elgin were in the late 80's or Huntly were in the FIAR era. They're competent and know what they're doing in an era when we've two teams this season alone who've had points deducted and least one other who would have been thrown out of a regional cup for fielding an ineligible player had they not lost the tie. They're professional and run a slick financial operation when the bulk of the rest of the teams can barely organise a raffle. They did, however, take the absolute piss out of the league with their ground antics for a good six or seven years, which is infinitely more legit a reason than the ones above to think they're an awful shower. Which is unfortunate for their support who took no joy from traipsing out to play homers at Keith and Inverurie for three seasons and who got a terrific level of abuse from everyone for something they were forced to face up to while their suits said nothing - even to their own support - about when they might be going home. The ground scenario will haunt them for a while if they don't go up, as it's believed the reason they didn't press the Buckie ineligible player farce more forcefully is that they were (probably correctly) under the impression if they took it further no club would offer them a ground to play at. The season Buckie went into the playoffs in their place was probably Cove's best opportunity, what with Cowden and East Kilbride being equally new to the playoffs at the time. IMO, they should be long gone already. Sadly they'll probably get another shot it all again if they blow it this year as with them in the league, a few Shire sides seem to be keeping their powder dry, and the North sides offer little opposition. Brora managed to this season, but could still trail in 8 points behind them despite conceding only 12 times all season in the league.

  13. Anyone assuming this meant no compensation was due was taking one line from the SPFL tribunal’s summary, misinterpreting it and diving in with two feet in repeating that misunderstanding over and over again. The contract had no clause for compensation in it, in that it didn’t have a clause specifying an amount with words to the effect of ‘if this contract is broken prior to the expiry date then £XXX is due.’ It’s a complete fallacy to argue that no amount being specified = no compensation being due. You’re effectively arguing that any contract which doesn’t specify an amount in a release clause allows either party to break it instantly for £0. As the tribunal’s findings stated, it was fixed term contract until May 2019. Therefore both parties were bound to it until May 2019 unless they could mutually agree to terminate it, which naturally would involve the side breaking it compensating the other for the value of the contract or some part of it. Flipping this round the other way to demonstrate the point, let’s say for argument’s sake Morton were the ones terminating it because they wanted to sack McKinnon for whatever reason. Are you saying that because there was no monetary amount for compensation specified in the contract, Morton could sack him in August 2018, with 9 months to run on the contract, and not have to pay him anything for terminating it early? If you can see why that argument is obviously ridiculous, you can see why the argument that no specified compensation clause existed means no compensation is due to Morton is also ridiculous.

  14. The Board should be treated to an atmosphere of pure bile on Saturday in that case, and if we are lucky enough to be safe on the last day, that game should be made solely about hounding them. They are now fucking about with the fans who have pledged their own money, both large and small it doesnt matter.

  17. Probably Petrie and Maxwell are not so stupid as to be taken in with all this pish about parallel leagues. It was never an issue when this all started. Now that the EOSL have gained a lot of clubs they seem to be trying to use their false sense of superiority and want to dictate to everyone else. When it started they just wanted a handful of clubs to prop up their failing league. Instead of the big hitters of the East Region Juniors the got the minnows. They kept moving the closing date for applications until they eventually got their target clubs. The SJFA indicated that they wished to join and everyone said it was the right way forward. No mention then of any geographical overlap. Now though? Total smokescreen. They actually want the ERSJFA to fold and join the EOSL. So all those clubs will come under their rule.

  27. You've got a point, aye, but another year doesn't really change anything. If he'd come back and done as well as he has, there's every chance his agent is angling for a move for him 'before he runs his contract down', which also leads to the similar ennui that we've collectively got over this whole thing. Only difference is it doesn't happen until the end of the season as we don't play Rangers after the split so they've no reason to bring it up.. Also, at risk of sounding like a patronising top flight fan; Up the Alloa. I hope your lads keep afloat this season and send some other dumplings down to the seaside league.

We got chatting about his career and I asked what the biggest game he played in was. He was trying to block a shot and caught Albertz and he has a few photos off his football days on his phone. He played at Easter Road and was playing in the big game at Central Park to decide promotion back in 2001. I take great glee in the fact that we won that one! No idea why you've been such a twat about it.

  31. The Coupe de France also draws lower league teams at home (if there's two levels between clubs) , no replays, just extra time and penalties. It annoys the big teams no end having to trek to a half derelict Stade Municipal to play on a rutted, grassless pitch against some clogging amateurs. It's great.

  34. Nice to see that those running Scottish football are just as incompetent in non-league matters as they are in the top leagues. What exactly is the point in moving the junior leagues into the seniors if they are also going to stop giving it licenses? No teams would even be able to get promoted without a licence. What do the juniors gain from joining the senior pyramid if they can't even get a licence? What is the point of the senior pyramid if teams can't easily be promoted and relegated between the leagues? Awful state of affairs as usual but sadly I fear that nobody running Scottish football really cares about the non-league teams. I reckon they just want juniors into the senior pyramid so they don't have to deal with actually making a proper pyramid and they want to close off licensing to protect their current member clubs. Ultimately, Scottish football is almost always about self-interest.

  38. Fair fucks to 'Flow. That's a decent exercise in expectations management, not just in relation to Hastie either. Just generally. Seems weird to me he's having to explain as I've always thought the reasoning behind our recent approach to contract offers to Academy players was obvious. Apparently not, it was just a massive co-incidence that all those contracts expired just before the cut off for Development Compensation. Looking at it, it seems we offer a 2 year deal from 17-19 to see how they develop, then if they're around the first team they get a 2-3 year deal (depending on when their birthday falls) to take them up to 22 and make sure that worst case we're still covered by compensation. The fact we got more for Lee Erwin than we did for Murphy, Reynolds and Hutchinson combined pretty much vindicates that. The fact we gave Allan Campbell a 4 year deal (and a 3.5 year deal for James Scott) means I'd hope we'll make exceptions now and again but it becomes a question of what the player is willing to sign. It needs buy in from the player, we got it from Turnbull but clearly Hastie has options on the table that are turning his head. Which is understandable since as 'Flow says he was doing alright at Alloa (and Airdrie) but nothing suggested teams would be knocking his door down. Hastie could just have easily gone the way of Dom Thomas, Dylan Mackin, Ross MacLean, Craig Moore, Luke Watt, David Ferguson et al at the start of the season (when lots of folk now seem to be saying we should have handed him a 10 year deal and forced him to sign it). Tbh, he still could. The whole Hastie to Rangers thing is utterly fucking tedious but equally chucking the guts of £400k at us (along with whatever ludicrous wage package they're offering) for a 20 year old off the back of 12 starts for Motherwell is as on brand a move for Sevco as you get. Ultimately though, if a team is willing to take a punt of that sort of money on a player at this stage of his development then they're going to be able to offer better terms than we can. So it's a case of offering the best deal we can and leaving it up to the player, if they're on board then great. If they're not then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I don't know the details of McKinstry moving to Leeds but it's probably worth making the distinction that he was/is under contract until 2020 (as opposed to Hastie's contract expiring) so it's a case of Leeds swooping in and being willing to pay 6 figures for a 16 year old who has yet to play a first team game and has only just broken into our Reserves.

  41. The Light of my Life is browsing through an American guide book to France and has just piped up. "Did you know that Paris is twice the size of Colorado?" "What? No it isn't." "That's what it says here." "Colorado? Paris is smaller than Denver." "Definitely Colorado." "What exactly does it say?" "<Reading> An area of 250,000 square miles (About twice the size of Colorado.)" "That can't be right - The whole of France is only about that size. Let me see." Aye, it had given the population of France, with a sub-note for that of Paris, then went on to talk about the area of the former in square miles. She hadn't noticed the transition back. Because it would make perfect sense that Paris would be twice the size of the 8th largest US state. The one in which we live.

  42. For a short while, I worked in an office on the 2nd floor of a 3-level building. There was no main staircase to our level but you could leave via the fire stairs. However, if you tried to get back into the office from there, you were stopped by a locked security door. Therefore you were forced to take the lift up the 2 levels. Boiled my piss, so it did. Worse though, was that a call center was located on the first floor. This 'could' be accessed via a staircase but none of the fuckers ever used it, meaning I had to share the lift with them. I doubt any of them were under 15 stone. I never once made it back to my office without at least one Hindenburg waddling into the lift with their McDonald's lunch. Then we'd go up 10 feet and they'd waddle out again.
