  2. We've signed ten players and if we get the ones we're targeting over the next two days it will take our recruitment into the teens. That would suggest that substantial monies have indeed been made available. The hard part, as you allude to, is finding the quality needed at this time of year. RM has looked at what feels like dozens and dozens of players. Every time I went into the club in recent months there seemed to be new faces walking about. I don't know if we'll secure any more or when they'll happen but I do know it's not through lack of trying. And forwards are at the top of the "wanted" list.

  3. When's the last time we had an enjoyable and successful season? Our first year up when we finished top 6 IMO. We played excellent football with the likes of Gary Irvine doing a fine job. Him and the likes of Willie Dyer will have been earning a hell of a lot less than most of the charlatans who've fucked off and are already forgotten. The season after with Stewart, Hemmings and Harkins was enjoyable and we never looked in any real danger, but I wouldn't deem it a success. The fact we finished in the bottom 6 with a team containing 2 player of the year candidates speaks volumes about how bad the defence was. The doon derby painted over a lot of cracks. Since then it's been absolute garbage and we're just replacing dud after dud and losing any sort of base to build on. The end of last season I would have happily started from afresh and it's now the exact same. United being a shambles has deflected against our own very obvious problems for ages and allowed too many in our support to develop a 'Well it could be worse' attitude whilst we've taken backward step after backward step until we're basically staring relegation in the face. We stayed up by the skin of our teeth last year and even if we do so again, there's nothng to suggest that we're moving forward. IMO we've not had a decent side to watch since 2015/2016 and like I said (IMO) can't really have deemed anything we've done in the league since 14/15. Our cup record speaks for itself. No wonder folk are miserable. TLDR - We are shite and have been heading this way for ages.

  4. There is a huge amount of misconceptions out there, and the worrying thing is that a lot of the people who make the decisions at club level have these misconceptions. I keep saying it, absolutely nothing will change for almost every club in the juniors if they join the pyramid. There is nothing to fear. The only change will be if you are good enough to win what is currently the top league in your region and you wish to get promotion to the Lowland League, only at that point will licensing requirements kick in. Currently every junior team in Scotland is compliant for entry at tier 6 and below, and the people running the clubs need to get that clear in their heads.

  7. Most clubs officials I know didn’t buy into the cost etc. They looked into themselves and we debunked that 150k nonsense (some of which was something to do with costs that Annan occurred when they joined the SFL but were taken out of context) As for joining when the 4 vacancies opened I was involved with the club at that time we certainly were all for joining the pyramid but for west clubs to join the LL it was a step to far. Costs for travelling at that time would cripple us; while also losing local derbies would of put the club under a huge financial constraint. I have always believed that all parties have to share the blame for the way it’s been handled. Junior clubs and officials were so dismissive of it (I remember receiving a phone call and getting a telling off from a senior junior official after giving an positive endorsement of the pyramid to the bbc!!), the EoS at the time were only looking after their own interests and should never have been allowed to run both organisations, and for me the biggest culprit was Regan who only wanted the pyramid for a box ticking exercise and rushed it through without proper time for discussions to take place. If what I hear is correct then there will be no change for next season in the East or the West and more discussions to be had.

  10. I was amazed to find out this was a thing. Teams of wee hipster wanks buying frames and clear lenses just for the look. I've never been a fan of capital punishment, but I'm starting to come round to the idea. Anyway, as for the topic, I've recently started taking a lift to work off one of the other guys but I fear it's been a huge mistake. The guy talks complete shite the whole journey, he once told me that ambulances don't put their siren on when attending things like heart attacks. He sits there rhyming off all these wee fucking obscure places asking me if I know where they are. He's big on football and keeps trying to open conversations about it, I love football but I genuinely can't be arsed listening to his shite, so I just sit on my phone these days in the hope he takes the hint.

  13. Hands tied behind his back?! He's made 7 signings FFS. It's not McCann's fault that he's signed an injury prone 34 year old CH that has put him into a situation that's meant he's playing a CH he clearly didn't fancy. It's not McCann's fault that he's only signed Martin Woods to play in our centre midfield after ostracising the likes of Ngwatala, Madianga and Kamara. It's not McCann's fault that rather than trying a youth player he's put an ageing CH into midfield rather than trusting his youth. If McIntyre was a truly good manager, he'd have managed to have kept some of the players he's planning on punting involved, until they were punted to avoid situations like this. It's not like he didn't have options better than O'Dea when he came in such as Madianga, Kamara or even Spence. You're right, league is far more important, hence how Saturday was an atypical McCann performances with lots of nice play, no cutting edge, then getting punished by a mistake. The football has been worse than it was under McCann, Hearts game excepted. If you're right, that tonight is a 'message to the board' then he's a fucking c**t. He's shafting all the fans that made their way to Dumfries midweek. He's shafting the board who have given him total freedom to shape the squad and brought in his own signings. And finally, he's cutting his nose off to spite his face as we could have added an extra body with the income from traversing this tie.

  16. Pyramid entry was supposedly a 'done deal' but now it looks like the SFA are stepping back and letting others get on with it, which is fair enough. Is there anything definitive, in writing, anywhere, which confirms that progress has been made and that pyramid entry can be delivered by SJFA for next season? It really doesn't need a majority of clubs to make a WoS league happen. It just requires another 9 to step up to the plate with Clydebank and get the thing done. It looks like this is not going to get sorted by others, the clubs must do it for themselves. The EoS assoc would no doubt extend their offer from last season and assist with rules / constitution and any questions that might crop up - it's all boiler-plate stuff substituting the word 'East' with 'West'. It needs 10 clubs with a common purpose and commitment and 4 competent people in the whole of the West of Scotland to take up the office bearer positions. Copy the website using exactly the same format as EoS with a contact email address at the top and an application form to fill out. SOMEBODY PLEASE DO IT. Or we'll all be here in another years time, still fannying about and wondering what is going on behind the scenes.

  20. You’re right there’s blame on all sides as the Pyramid should have been sorted better from the beginning but to say the Junior clubs were not wanted is simply untrue, I remember at the time the great Junior conspiracy was the whole thing was a ploy to get Spartans in the league. Where are Spartans now? The Juniors were offered to join at the beginning and due to the poor short notice setup correctly decided against it as the risk for them was far greater. After it was formed and working there were still 4 places and the Lowland league were open for applications how many Juniors applied and were refused? TJ was pitching project fear of £150K toilets and Tuesdays to Elgin and then Juniors should join as one at be tier 5 and a separate feeder (sounds familiar to the current pitch) it took Kelty to see through the BS and break ranks to change the SJFA thinking and the East floodgate opened thanks to Dalkeith and Blackburn, notice the EoS accepted all applicants. TJ is still pitching the same all in under the SJFA but now it’s tier 6, if it turns out to be BS and EoS do have a veto who’ll break ranks first in the West? You can blame the EoS for the initial short notice setup but they’ve been open to applications and have accepted several teams including yours. What’s holding everything up now is this SJFA all in and still SJFA nonsense, if you join the pyramid you’re a senior club. the WRJFA members who want in need to form a WoS league (note the anti juniors EoS have offered to help with it) and the Tayside teams need to accept they’re Highland League area.

  21. Being honest I’d just f**k him off now. I know it’s hugely reactionary but he’s shown nothing and his man management seems on par - if not worse than McCann. I don’t have an immediate solution but would be trying to tempt Ian McCall on the premise of a longer term plan and the potential for him to achieve more (in time) than he could at Ayr. He’d likely tell us to bolt and I wouldn’t even blame him. The whole thing is just so Dundee. The whole season has been. In fact the only things that could make it more Dundee is admin 3 and Dens burning down, just as it’s revealed that the holding company for the New Campy has been sold to some dodgy Afghan warlord for some magic beans and a goat.

  24. As satori said i think it optimistic to get 4 goals when we barely troubled Cumbernauld at Dunterlie. Also factor in several ex Arthurlie players who may have a point to prove (although we do have an ex Cumbernauld player too) and you have the makings of an exciting game. This season has gone better than anyone at Arthurlie expected with the turnover of players and the manager deserves the utmost credit for getting the club to where we are, if we go on and get promoted great but what the clubs has achieved this season has greatly surpassed my expectations.

  29. It’s a combination of factors. - We don’t have the best squad in the league, so we wont win the league. - Vaughan (And possibly Hendry) are two of the best players in this league, we haven’t had either for any reasonable period. - The squad isn’t balanced - Defensively the team is a mess, and Mcglynn does not seem to be addressing it - We play with two wingers all of the time – again Mcglynn keeps persisting with this - Senior, experienced players are not delivering – Gillespie, Wedderburn, Benedictus, Davidson – all far too inconsistent. - General malaise around the club – 2 (now likely 3) seasons of failure. - Full time not making any real difference – no real attributable difference in fitness, set piece organisation etc - Team are too “soft” – especially away from home, where our record over the past 2 and bit seasons is, frankly, disgusting. Some of the blame lies with Smith/board, some lies with Mcglynn, some lies with the players. Not one reason why we are where we are, but the only man who can change it really is Mcglynn and he needs to be given the time to do that and at least have a squad he can call “his”, in my opinion. Also the fact is Arbroaths form is superb. Whilst we should be closer, we likely wouldn't be top anyway. However since we beat them they have stopped another 5 points, and we still find ourselves further back. Harsh reality is they we are are an average to decent league 1 side, no more. Being full time is in theory the right thing to do, but it's not going to make an average, unbalanced squad any better, especially with some very well run part time sides at this level. It's not a golden key to winning this league, it's just that every other full time team in this league has actually approached it properly and got out of it.

  30. I actually think we generally play much better than last season, despite a few results - we should’ve on the balance of play and chances won arguably all of our defeats, EF at home probably the exception to that when we were genuinely outplayed. We dominate games with possession, territory, chances, etc - something we really didn’t do from about September on last season, save a period around Christmas and New Year. But we fail to win 50% of our games. That isn’t a hard luck story, that’s a consistent pattern, and it comes out of the way we defend. Brechin had two chances to execute a counter attack from a Rovers set piece and got their winner from it, the same way Montrose did. McGlynn has identified that in his interviews, which is encouraging at least. Will he do anything about it? Remains to be seen. We simply have to change the way we defend away from home. Ayr played a similar way to the way we are right now and lost a hell of a lot of goals, but had an uncanny ability to outscore the opposition on any given day. We don’t seem to manage that so we need to look at something different or this will undoubtedly continue.

  32. I've moaned about this before and I don't actually think it's petty, it's entirely vindicated, but since it's just happened to me again and I'm absolutely furious I'm going to bring it up again. Dumbarton Health Centre - if you want an appointment you need to phone up when it opens at 8:30am. That phone line is just a normal phone line, so if someone has called before you it will be engaged and you need to try again. I've just spent half an hour constantly recalling and getting a busy tone, finally get through and the woman says "sorry no appointments left for today, you'll need to try again tomorrow". And if I try again tomorrow and the same result? Yeah, try again the next day. I'm honestly astounded this is how a fucking GP operates in 20 fucking 19. How fucking hard is it to install a phone line that adds people to queue and you answer the calls in turn instead of turning into some sort of radio phone in competition. How fucking hard is it to allow people to book an appointment in advance? I just do not fucking understand.

  36. I think the contract dispute has passed the point of no return, given that the ruling on 19th December found us guilty. However, the statement made by the SPFL said: "sub-committee to decide what sanction, IF ANY, should be applied. That wording suggests the sanction may be much less than the aforementioned lunatic was hoping for. And posted incessantly about, way back in September and October. Should such a thing happen and we only get a slap on the wrist, then it would be more than amusing. Particularly if it was followed up with news of Tidser leaving "the Famous" to join a big club. Poor Branchton would get so many "GIRFUY"-type posts hurled in his direction that he'd need to go into hibernation. Of course, he may well have the last laugh. We'll just have to wait and see.

  37. Are we all enjoying the delicious certainty, safety and security we were promised in 2014 if we stayed part of the Union? A Union that has served us well for hundreds of years, if it ain't broke don't fix it, why take the risk etc? I don't know how many Scots cringers I had this argument with at the time, how many times I said that it doesn't quite work like that, a No vote isn't a vote for everything to stay the same forever. The SNP should be shouting this from the rooftops and reminding unionists what they said at the time but as usual they're wasting the opportunity.

Even simple stuff, like the most basic of Excel forumulas (such as adding up all values in a column) or properly formatting a Word file, or being able to use the various functions of Outlook and many, many other things are well beyond them and in some people, specifically older ones, they seem to be very stubborn to learn and proud of their ignorance.
