  1. Quite right Duncan. And to think he could have been with Morton if a bigger club hadn't come in for him....

  2. Robson at left back is a concern for me, he was getting chucked about all over the place. He was particularly exposed in the back five. I can only echo what others are saying about McKenna, but also think it needs to be said that Dixon looks a really solid addition. He won't win the Balon D'Or but there'll be nothing daft in terms of mistakes and he'll always pick the correct option.

  3. Dunno who the hibs player is. But the young guy in the grey hoodie gripping the fence is me. The auld man was a hibs fan and took me to Easter road when I couldn't go to well games

  6. I have my doubts over Robson in a back 4 defensively he seems too weak at times and is easily pushed aside and because his size he’s an easy target for long balls. However you’re doing a massive disservice to his attacking play. He’s got pace, actively looks to beat his man and get to the byeline and his final ball is generally quite good. Naw. Just naw. McKenna looks like a quality centre back so that’s where he needs to stay and we need to get in a proper actual right-back. Lewis Kidd is a bang average midfielder at this level and fairly poor at wing-back. He’s even worse at full-back. And don’t get me started on fucking Muirhead playing there again.

  7. I’m sure when he signed for Sporting in 2014 the plan wasn’t for him to be back playing in Scotland in 2018 however credit to the lad for trying to go down a different route to progress his career. I admire people like him and Liam Henderson who have the balls and appetite to try something different. He will have learned a new language and a new culture so will be a better person for this experience. He’s only 23 so has many years ahead of him. I hope it works out for the boy at Hibs and well done Hibs for giving the laddie a chance. We need to get behind young Scottish players and offer them encouragement when their careers stall. Not take an opportunity to laugh at them. Good luck Ryan Gauld.

  8. I'd let primary schools in the north stand every time it isn't being used by away fans. Watching us and going to our games might just possibly turn 1 or 2 away from the big Glasgow teams and supporting us instead and that's a win in my book!

  9. Can’t say grierson would be my favourite guy in junior football but to be fair he’s done some Job at whitletts and hope he gets himself back fully fit and in the best of health as really that’s all more important than winning football games

  11. It’s not really “how far we’ve fallen” though, is it? We’ve been within 5 or 6 places of where we are now for the vast, vast majority of the entire time I’ve been going to the Rovers, which is 20 years. It’s also condescending as f**k to Arbroath who have built on their squad over the last three or four seasons and are where they are on merit. We’ve not suddenly ‘fallen’ out of the premiership and are now slogging our way through, we are of similar size to the clubs round about us in the league standings, and have been for as long as I can remember.

  17. What is it with the love in for Robson. Mediocre at the back and not much better going forward. Playing a blinder once every 10-15 games isn’t enough. I think a lot of the young lads in our support appear to adore the guy, seems to give him a pass when he plays badly.

  18. For me Naysmith has had to 'manage' in far more difficult circumstances in their qos spells than AJ. I've seen nothing in their respective managerial careers to date that suggests AJ is a better manager than GN. Random stats below as i was interested. Average qos ppg: Jim McIntyre = 1.56 Kenny Brannigan = 1.50 Gordon Chisholm = 1.44 Gary Naysmith = 1.44 James Fowler = 1.36 Gus Macpherson = 1.00 Stats from: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/

  19. A ‘pick up artist’ failing to pull on NYE, pretty poor show from him tbh. jamamafegan used to have the best ‘pick up’ technique: 1. Approach female 2. Find out which town in Scotland they are from 3. Ask them if the support that town’s football club e.g. ‘You’re from Kirkcaldy? Are you a regular at Starks Park then?’ Works on approximately 0/1000 birds.

  20. If the LL have an idea of how they want to work it, then they should just chuck it into PWG discussions and go for it next season rather than wait another 18 months. The LL was set-up in a little over 6 weeks. Personally I'd like to see them go all-in and set-up a LL2 West and LL2 East, invite Licenced clubs to apply as a priority then allow non Licenced clubs a season to get one. It would cut the SJFA right out of the Pyramid at tier 6, which is probably a concern to current LL clubs who don't fancy falling into an SJFA administered league. Not sure that will happen though.

  21. Indeed. What a run we are on. Spirit yesterday was as good as its been in years. Different to Hartleys Championship team, in the sense that they racked up a lot of points early from the element of being a new team opponents knew little of. The current team have grown into this campaign. We'll still have off days and setbacks of course, but should fear no one at the moment.

  22. Just to reflect that the form table is absolutely sensational at the moment! Our current run is reminiscent of the first half of the 2013/14 Championship season under Hartley. The players and manager deserve all the plaudits at the moment, long may it continue (we all know it won't last for long quite like this...) & what a time to be an Alloa supporter [emoji7]

  24. Although none of us are happy being 9th I’m going to be optimistic here. Is that allowed ?? Ray has only really had his own players in for 2 games in which we have earned 4 points. Both games were away and both were tough in their own rights as we played a team fighting for the title and a team fighting for their life. He has said he is still trying to bring in 4 more players so he knows there is work still to do in building the squad out. He has also got rid of a lot of the rubbish. We don’t have a game next week therefore he has 2 whole weeks of working with these players to try and get them fitter, to team build and to help gel them. After that we have 2 home games which although are tough, are also, I believe winnable. I genuinely do believe things are looking up and let’s face it, after the mess Hartley left us in even finishing 9th would be better than what most of us hoped for 6-8 weeks ago. COYB

  25. In the know, out the know - who’s caring! If you would like some ramblings about proper football business feel free to have a wee read of an article I did for@PureFitbaw. Wee bit about the season so far & how big a month this is for the club. I feel the thread needed a change of topic. If the article does nothing else, hopefully it can at least do that. https://purefitbaw.com/2019/01/11/a-defining-month-in-an-exceptional-season/

  26. Just thinking about how much we’ve struggled at right back the last few years. From the top of my head the following have all played at least 1 game for us there since relegation. Jason Marr Kieran Duffie Ross Perry Blair Alston David Weatherston Will Vaulks Jonny Flynn Liam Rowan Alan Maybury Paul Watson Luca Gasporotto Aaron Muirhead Kevin McCann Ryan Sinnamon Lewis Kidd Jordan McGhee Now Vaulks and Duffie apart this list is fucking stinking.

  30. I forgot to post I did the tour the other day. The pint at the end was class. Dispelled a few nonsense myths too about "Chemical T" and all that other shite that self hating losers use to disparage their national drink. Nothing but natural ingredients. A top quality pilsner lager.

  31. All this crap about Naysmits points stats being obscured by Dobbie being with us is nonsense.... Its like saying Spurs would be mid table without Kane. Real Madrid would have won f**k all without Ronaldo. That line of conversation is wasting everyone’s time because you may be correct but at the end of the day we do have Dobbie, Spurs have Kane and Madrid had Ronaldo.

  32. Jeezo, the tannoy announcer and now the highlights guy? What is it with Alloa and having, what appear to be, complete zoomers involved with their club? Strange considering all the Alloa posters not involved with the club come across as a very decent bunch.

  34. Because we don’t have a goalkeeper as good as Darren Jamieson, we don’t have a centre half that’s as good as Tom O’Brien, we don’t have a winger who’s as good as Bobby Linn, we don’t have a central midfielder who’s as creative as Gavin Swankie and we don’t have a front two who combine as well as Ryan Wallace and Michael McKenna.

  35. Definitely. I'll guess 3 or 4 in this week. Lyons is guaranteed. I imagine the striker and winger who have impressed will be signed up as well. The striker is Tomas Malec as was reported in the the press on Thursday and Friday. His name is out there in the press so it's fine to mention it. The winger's name hasnt not been mentioned publicly yet which is good for us as the worst thing would be for someone to get the bounce on us and get him ahead of us. What I've seen of him online has been very impressive indeed. I get that anyone can make a good player out of YouTube highlights but this lad seems to be a bit classy. All will be revealed in the next couple of days I guess.

  37. McLean will probably be quite a frustrating player, like all wingers at this level he will look good in some games and hopeless in others. I do think it's worth remembering that he hit the shot that led to the goal last week and the cross that led to the goal this week so he has already contributed and if he can improve he could be a decent player for us.

  38. Thought Duffy came across well on the radio. Was interesting to hear the scale of the challenges a manager at our level faces. Should be compulsory listening for some of our more excitable Facebook contributors.

  39. We don't have a game next week, fortunately. I see your point, however Scottish Cup game next week would have at least brought some money in through gate receipts. As it stands it’s another week where expenditure exceeds income and that can’t help finances. Just been listening to Jim Duffy on Radio Scotland. Dowie has a job on the rigs offshore, starts today. Adam and Loy both have slipped disc back problems. Generally saying how difficult it is to make an impact when only with the players two evenings a week. He does come across well though, and alluded to bringing in a couple of players ‘soon’.

  41. Surely the time is right to offer Naysmith a new deal. He is an asset and will be attracting attention from other clubs. Good luck if he moves on, but let’s benefit from this if it happens. He is obviously a hard worker, which is for the benefit of the club. It’s wrong to say that it’s only down to dobbie, although he’s obviously our star and the formation is set up to support him. The work rate of the entire team yesterday was exceptional and was what won us the game. Commented on the Ross county managers interview, that it was so full of usual cliches that it said absolutely nothing. Listening to Naysmith’s honest views of the games, including our failings, are like sharing an after match pint with him. I personally like listening to his pre match interviews where he shares his thoughts on the opposition. To me, it highlights his attention to detail that he is putting into winning points for our club. As supporters of clubs at this level, I think we have to accept that sometimes we have off days and others have crackers - yesterday for example for the league leaders. One our bad days, this potentially makes our performances look poorer or defensive than is intended. He obviously likes to hit teams quickly on the break, which we are capable of and have done very effectively this season.

  44. Aye kinda what others have said. Also, we could have signed another player to play in Christie’s place, we could have played Stewart there and he could have been amazing (a la this season), any number of variables could have played out. Christie wasn’t even that good last season. In reality what actually happened is, Christie came to us, developed as a player, returned to Celtic and beat us in the cup final. I was furious and I don’t want us to do that ever again. He should have been rotting in the reserves. If Celtic feel Hendry deserves some game time at a decent level, play him yourself.

  46. The EOSL are going to have a very successful Groundhop Weekend at the end of March: Friday 29th March Dunipace v Bonnyrigg (8pm) Saturday 30th March Camelon v Edinburgh Utd (11am) Inverkeithing v Heriot-Watt Uni (2:15pm) Blackburn v Preston (5:15pm) Linlithgow v Jeanfield (8pm) Sunday 31st March Peebles v Newtongrange (12:30pm) There could be up to a thousand spectators for the Linlithgow v Jeanfield game if both teams have a chance of winning the Conference C final Why on earth are the Juniors not supporting the Groundhoppers? For clubs it is not only a money making exercise but a great way to put our clubs on the football map. The Hoppers may be bringing up to three coaches from England for the six game weekend and then there those coming up by car. There will even be groundhoppers coming over from Germany I had a chat with a fellow groundhopper about this a while ago. Apparently the meeting with West Region JFA reps was going quite well but then this old guy put a stop to things. It does not take much to fathom out who the old guy must have been but why on earth would he put a stop to such an innovative change that involved permutation of fixtures over three days many months hence? The Groundhopper Rep could not understand what the problem was. However, if he had known who he was dealing with and the stubborn resistance to any change and the problems the WRJFA have had making advanced fixture permutations, the Rep would have known he was facing a battle that had no likelihood of a successful outcome. Kennie has certainly improved the fixture making this season. But I still feel that there is a firm resistance to any innovations of this nature in the West Region. Am I wrong? Does the West Region want their own Groundhop? Or are we still sticking our head in the sand.
