  4. God knows who his agent is but if I was him I would be getting shot. Surely Livi cant be the only club that were interested in him on a free and it was pretty obvious to anyone and their dug that his style of play isnt anything thats going to fit in with them. Dreadful panic decision by him and his agent. I'd have Alston back before Sibbald if you ask me. Scored a load of goals from midfield even when played in a position that wasn't his strongest. Replacing him and Vaulks with Craigen and Rankin was the start of Houstons downfall.

  5. I understand where you are coming from, but that time has long passed. Probably like yourself I placed my faith in the Labour Party for most of my adult life until such times as they moved so far to the right that I could no longer hold on. I now vote SNP, not because I'm a rabid Scottish Nationalist, but because I believe an independent Scotland represents my own and my family's best hope of achieving the sort society I wish to live in. Perhaps you should consider the analogy of a house move; first you make the move and then you furnish and decorate to your own taste. Thus, the SNP and the wider independence movement become the removal men, whilst an energised, focused, reconstituted and above all independent Scottish Labour party becomes the interior designer. One in which there is no refuge for Brown, Darling, the Alexanders, Foulkes and every other Toom Tabard of yesteryear. But we'll never do it if folk like you are fighting the battles of 40 years ago.

  7. Edibairn/Sheps/Campbell, you’ve actually been talking a lot of sense recently and also been surprisingly positive, however to try and genuinely say Alston wouldn’t walk into our current team and be the best player in it and one of the best players in the league to boot is just ridiculous.

  8. If I have counted correctly and Davidson plays next week, that should put him joint 7th in the appearances list. I know he divides opinion amongst our support, but I think he’s been a great servant to the club.

  10. “I accept that it’s unacceptable” - Caldwell, G (2018) Some of the questions, he answered very well. Others very poorly. The guy who went to town on him was pretty much bang on. His response with the quote above, as well as trying to counter the fact that we don’t create chances or score enough goals with “how many shots have we had since I joined? 83” was baffling, and it was inevitable that it was responded with “how many goals have we scored? 2”.

  19. This is the anniversary of Alan Gilzean's last game for Dundee. He scored a hat-trick, Andy Penman the other, in a 4-4 draw against St Johnstone at Dens on Saturday 5 December, 1964. Attendance was 10,347 according to the London Hearts site or 12,000 in "They Wore The Dark Blue".

  20. Went along tonight, and it was exactly what I was expecting, really. You could tell Caldwell had prepared certain quotes; he replied to plenty of questions with answers which, while well-articulated, didn't really fit the question asked. He was very vague for lots of it as well - every answer seemed to eventually trail back into him improving the squad mentality and us getting better. Which is all very well and good to be speaking about, but didn't really answer much. Took a few notes on it: - Quitongo and Bannigan in contract discussions right now, offers are on the table and seems like we're waiting on them. - He got asked if he was re-assessing our target this season - the answer was a waffled version of "no". Still thinks promotion attainable. - Asked if he would be signing players on short or long term contracts - deflected, talked about "getting better". - Talked about the players doing some sort of speed dating role-play with each other to improve their confidence and get to know each other better. This, combined with Doolan's comments a couple of days back about the army training meaning players had to work with guys they wouldn't normally speak to, suggests pretty evident cliques in the squad. - Injury updates - Lennox training again, O'Ware targeting March for a comeback, Coulibaly has just had an operation (I don't remember an estimated return being given), Slater was a worry for a long term injury but should just be a couple of weeks, Bell also back soon. - Got asked how many signings he was going to make and how many will be leaving - deflected, says he knows what he wants but didn't actually give anything away, talked about "getting better" again. - Asked if the players who he wants rid of are aware of this - said no, citing managing everyone differently. - Questioned on our scouting network - wants players with experience in Scotland, isn't considering foreign players at all. - Asked about Storey, and he thinks Miles is very talented and just needs more confidence, and that he's definitely a winger. - Thinks Penrice is naturally a WB and it sounds like we won't be seeing him at CM any time soon. - We've got much fitter since he took over and play at a higher intensity - mentioned mental fatigue being more to blame for late goals conceded than physical. The one time he got rattled was by the question mentioned before by a few people, where he essentially got asked if he appreciated the severity of the situation and why the players are showing no heart or desire. He snapped back with stats about shots on target, which even if they were answering a question relating to them, wasn't a great reply. We've had 20 shots in target and 2 goals in his 6 games in charge, by the way. That's fucking piss-poor, and he tried to use it to defend criticism, which was baffling. All in all, he got it it pretty easy in general. Only one time where he got really challenged (the question above), and lots of dancing around questions with soundbites. Which, unfortunately, seems to be Gary Caldwell in a nutshell.

  26. As someone with the same problem, I didn't see it that way, it's fair enough to write a piece from that angle under the circumstances, I'd be surprised if McCall didn't call on things learned from his own journey when dealing with players, stopping gambling is a very small part of the path from arsehole to normality, most of it's played out in your head.

  33. I've had a great 10 weeks or so in terms of my own metal health. I've gotten fully focused on physical health and diet and lost a stone and a half in that period and actually feeling really fit, considering signing up for a marathon and everything. And then the weekend just happened, I haven't totally cut out booze over the last 10 weeks but I've seriously cut back as part of my health kick. This weekend I had a work do Friday, out on Saturday and the cup final on Sunday, so the heaviest weekend for a long time. Thankfully I was off yesterday but I felt fucking horrendous. Not like just a bit hungover, properly screaming into the pillow, crying in the shower awful. All the old feelings of life being pointless and hating myself were back with a vengeance. I didn't get a minute's sleep last night either. I just lay in silence as didn't want the Mrs to know I was back in such a bad place. I know that I just need to get back into the fitness and health kick and I will get back out of it, but it really was a wake up call to just how much the booze impacts on my head and a reminder to be fucking careful with it. It really is dangerous stuff if you let it. It terrified me how quickly and easily I could be back in that state.
