  1. I think there could be real mileage in that -they could expand their tried and trusted approach into lifestyle telly as well: 7pm: Packie-mind: Pat Bonner asks questions of contestants in a big black chair. Their specialist subject is always Celtic. 8pm: Moneywise with Doddsy: Billy Dodds gives tips on tax-efficient saving and earnings schemes. 9pm: The Banter Years: A knockabout comedy for all the family. 10pm: Old Firm Question Time: Partisan Panelists make clueless remarks about the Israel/Palestine conflict in front of an audience of braying mutants.* *differs from the BBC version only insofar that it's hosted by Ian Durrant

  2. See Davie Provan speaking up for Falkirk and slamming the SFA for not releasing Zak Rudden from Scotland duties: https://thisisfutbol.com/2018/11/blogs/scottish-premier-league/sky-pundit-rudden-should-have-been-playing-for-club/ Davie Provan has slammed the Scottish Football Association for failing to release Rangers starlet Zak Rudden from age-group duty to play for loan club Falkirk at the weekend. The Sky Sports pundit and ex-Celtic midfielder is convinced the Ibrox forward, who is on a season-long loan with the Scottish Championship club, should not have been made to play for the nation’s Under-19s. “Rudden should have been playing in their relegation crunch with Partick,” Provan told the Scottish Sun. “Instead, the Bairns did without him after the SFA refused to release him from the Scotland Under-19 squad facing San Marino. “Who in their right mind at Hampden made that decision? Given the Bairns’ precarious league position and the potential financial hit from relegation, Rudden should have been playing for the people paying his wages. “Is it any wonder there is so little goodwill towards the SFA?”

  3. You seemed to be doing well at the start of the season and were unbeaten in your first three including a win against Ross County. What went wrong?

  4. Reads like it was written in the aftermath of his team getting a draw at Livi TBH. The central theme of it is - like lots of columns - a complete straw-man argument. The idea that Scottish Football is still living in the 80's - where a leg breaker was greeted with a stern telling off from the referee and dire threats of a yellow card if you did 3 more - is pretty risible really. The idea that you don't get massively dirty fouls in South American football, or in Italy or Spain is a pretty bizarre point of view too - as is the idea that the midfield assasin/hatchetman is a thing in Scottish football anymore. I'm not exactly a cheerleader for artificial pitches - but again, his suggestion that they are a sign of the backward nature of Scottish Football is another mile-oot piece of sophistry. Firstly, his comparison with hybrid pitches, without the mention of the expense of them, reads like typical OF supporter arrogance and completely ignores the financial realities involved. Secondly, artificial pitches are used in plenty of other northern/eastern european leagues where weather is shit and daylight is in short supply during the season - and given that these leagues are by (his own) definition more progressive than Scotland, his argument makes no sense at all. I've always found McKenna's views to be pretty elastic depending on who he is writing for (apart from the subjects of Celtic (great) and religiously separate schools (fantastic)) - so I wasn't totally shocked to immediately find a polar opposite view from last year in the same publication under the headline "The English Can Stop Sneering at Scottish Football"

  6. If you can’t make your teams match. Give your money to your clubs online TV channel, get a VPN and watch your game. To watch any other game, watch Alba, get a stream. If you w**k over the EPL. God help you. f**k Sky.

  9. These people give me the dry green boak. See the people that wanted God in the schools, mums at home and tough discipline for kids? They're the ones deeming people with terminal illnesses fit for work. They're the ones in charge of looking after veterans (an unfortunate Americanism, btw). They're the ones causing suicides by stopping benefits. They put the retirement age up. How is that not obvious to whichever twat wrote this? The folk being derided as PC are the only ones doing anything to help on any of those issues. As for 'kids these days', among young people we've got declining crime rates (though serious crimes are creeping up in England & Wales, hm, wonder why), declining alcohol and drug abuse, declining teenage pregnancy rates (now very low), declining numbers not in employment, education or training... even though we've wrecked their planet, priced them out of housing and saddled them with massive debts. I need to stop giving a shit about idiots on the internet. But if you can copy and paste this back to wherever you got that, I'd be much obliged.

  11. Met all three boys after the game, along with Tim Cahill on his last ever appearance. Felt like a giddy wee schoolgirl and got the 3 of them to sign my Hibs shirt. Milligan looked ok to me, hopefully just rested. Boyle stole the show and was superb. Managed to sneak a few Hibs stickers around Sydney Olympic Stadium too - we’re taking over down under.

  12. That is very disappointing. I suppose they were always going to go with a significantly higher offer but Sky having full rights is a kick in the balls (partly because I've historically refused to pay for sky and I do for BT sports...). I think what irritates me, other than the inconvenience of not having sky, is that by winning these rights Sky don't just buy the right to televise games, they are buying the rights to do a large part if not the majority of the marketing of the Scottish game. They dictate how Scottish football is showcased and we all know very well how Sky see it. It feels like we've finally gone full circle back to the pre-2012 days of Scottish football. Opportunity to change the game well and truly missed. It was fun while it lasted I suppose.

  13. Don't care 1 little bit that Sky beat BT to cover Scottish football. Folk tell me BT care more and give more time to Scottish football than Sky. I'm the type who if a game kicks off at 12.30 switches on at 12.29. Don't even watch the post match stuff either. As long as I can see the 90mins I couldn't give less of a f**k how long Sky or BT give to listen to some "expert analysis"

  16. Celtic and Rangers, who are both in favour of putting Colt teams into the league system, are championing the "experience gained" from their Colt sides playing in the Irn Bru Cup? Who'd a fucking thunk it You talk about "using your brain" but we can all see the zip running up the back of your head.

  17. Football can be a strange game at times and none more so than Saturday's game. For the first hour we looked very average and Glenrothes fully deserved their lead then boom! Total transformation probably sparked by JC's substitutions and it certainly ignited the Hoose performance and the game overall. From then there was only one team in it and we had wave after wave of very positive attacking play and we got our rewards. Yes we could have won the game especially with 1 on one chance with the keeper from a great through ball and given the keeper near the end made 2 outstanding saves yes 3 points could have been ours but being 2 down in the game you would've probably considered a point wasn't that bad in the end. If the Hoose can raise their game to that on show and experienced in the last 30mins then we will soon start racking the points up. I agree with Fluff that the fighting, never say die attitude was certainly back at the end of the game and some of the attacking football on show also then was a joy to watch. Fair play to the lads who worked and fought as a team! Go the Hoose.....let's start against Tayport on Saturday where we finished off against Glenrothes!!

  19. And that’s the difference in this league the teams at the top can go away from home and grind out results , we lost all away games early on and now we are getting draws which normally would be acceptable but with the start we had we need to be taking all 3 points but it’s all good fun

  20. Lol, nice pic mate, am taller than that :), look you've maybe taken my comments to heart a bit, and I wasn't meaning to slate it too much, good wee club down there at the Vics and some nice people I spoke too, I just meant as soon as the game started the ball was bobbling all over the place and most players were struggling to keep their feet, as I said well done on the 3 points and good luck for the rest of the season, I hope you take more points off other teams at Victoria park

  22. That takes us to at least 15 mass shootings in November so far. Don't get too impressed by that. Mass shootings account for less than 1% of gun homicides in the US. They literally have the gun death rate of a Middle Eastern war zone. Handguns account for nearly two-thirds of gun deaths in the US, they cost about £120 and they'll sell them over the counter to mentally ill people and suspected terrorists on the no-fly list. In many states these people can then carry their handgun wherever they go. There's little sporting value to handguns, you don't go hunting deer with one. They're for shooting people. Between a third and a half of all the civilian-owned guns in the world are in American homes. There is no register of gun owners - it is against federal law for the government to create a database of people who own guns. These people shouldn't be allowed to own cutlery, never mind firearms.

  23. That's 10 confirmed so I'll run a quiz. As I said, give me a week or so to have another run through so I can come up with questions. I've a couple of ideas for 'Categories' rather than just a list of questions. One should be quite good if I can get enough questions for that area. If anyone else is keen leave your name or hit like and I'll add you to the list. Once I've got the questions together I'll summon the contestants with an @!

  24. Well this has been an interesting read for a Sunday morning. I'd say the thread has been dominated by one or two individuals who hold, thankfully, a minority view on something like this and it is heartening to see so many people have a much more positive and sensible approach. It is also clear to see that there are more than a few people who are very well qualified to talk about the subject given their knowledge level or the fact that they are involved in education. As a teacher myself (and a Guidance Teacher) I fully back the plans to embed LGBTI teaching across the curriculum to provide our young people with the information they need to form their own judgements and opinions. That is what school is for is it not? Informing young people about the society they belong to and will discover. As an RE teacher (a non-religious RE teacher at that) I have had his debate on many occasions with regards to my subject and it's place in school. What I always tell people is that we do not teach people HOW to be religious, we teach people ABOUT religion and in turn we touch on Psychology, Politics, History and Sociology. All of this gives young people the tools they need to hopefully become a positive part of our Scottish society (regardless of their job, income or social status). Even if it doesn't then we still have given them the information they need to know more about their world and then make informed decisions based on that. Again, this is an objective of education and I am proud that my own school has taken steps to highlight LGBTI issues and the other huge issue in society, mental health (probably the most destructive issue facing our youth). We would not be doing our job if we hid parts of society and culture from young people. I've seen first hand the devastation that homophobic abuse causes and I've also seen the anxiety and panic in young people who are scared to present their identity to their peers because those around them (or their perception of those around them) is one that causes them so much fear. Thankfully I can say that 99% of young people I know are very, very open and respectful of people's identity (whether that be race, religion or anything else). Scotland's society is better for such inclusive education policies and openness.

  26. "Colt teams" are a misnomer. Good coaches will know fairly early who the real prospects are. The rest are making up the numbers. This proposal would mean corrupting lower league football for the sake of one or two individuals a year to progress.

  28. It's fans of other clubs who suffer, not Celtic supporters. Or put it this way – I'd be pretty chuffed if all St Johnstone's home matches kicked off at 3pm and all our away matches were on TV. One of the reasons I gave up my season ticket a year back was because I couldn't make the rescheduled home games. The lack of regularity of home games I'm sure puts people out of the habit of going to games – as well significantly affecting gate revenue for the clubs. Believe me, if these TV arrangements weren't to the benefit of the Old Firm and their fans, the TV arrangements would change.

  31. If we can't get 2 relegation spots - or even 1 automatically for that matter - from the SPFL into tier 5, there is no point hypothesising on what the dream might look like (different for everyone). The key just now is to ensure that clubs falling into line with what the SFA asked of them does not lead to the SFA (or SPFL) obstructing the very structure they were so keen to promote. It's one thing to refine standards and encourage teams with aspirations to Tier 5 and above to do a bit more. It's quite another to implement a block in the process. SPFL3 would be a shambles.

  33. Here's a funny little stat I just stumbled across. Did you know that only Arbroath have had more shots on target than us this season? They've had 77 to our 69. They've scored 34 in that time (44.16%) to our 19 (27.54%). Guess that just about sums up our issues. We concede plenty, don't score and most people are in agreement that midfield is an issue. Good luck, Jim!

  34. In other words they've had a trial which has completely failed, so let's double down and expand the trial even further into another competition - taking us to a position where it's going to be extremely difficult to ever remove the Colt sides - rather than accepting the idea is flawed. Citation needed.
