  1. That's a bit like saying "why do we need a safety person?" in a workplace. I suggest you go away and do some online research into the safety requirements for clubs to stage football matches.

  4. Ye'd think Scotland was the size of Congo or Russia they way some folk are determined to regionalise everything. There are two hour journeys in the tenth tier in England, four hours in the 4th tier in Finland, etc. Yet folk think if it aint walking distance then it's gonna cripple clubs in Scotland in the 5th/6th level

  5. This might help explain...... The Kilmarnock Football Club is delighted to reveal our special crest for our 150th Anniversary. The 150th crest is comprised of key elements from our club's history and modernised to highlight Kilmarnock's honour and tradition as we hold celebrations throughout the remainder of the 2018/19 season and the 2019/20 campaign. Until 1977, the only badge that had ever appeared on our club jersey was the sign of benediction on top of a football. This was Killie's first-ever crest and was drawn on the rear side of the October 1872 Book of Constitution. In 1906, when the club became a Limited Company, a badge was created and elements like the shield in a circular emblem have been incorporated in our 150th crest. This badge has always featured on club share certificates so our fans will recognise this. Unbelievably, we didn't have any crest on our strips until 1977 and at that point, the Kilmarnock town badge became incorporated in our club crest. This remained until The Court of the Lord Lyon intervened in 1991. We haven't incorporated the squirrels into the 150th crest as they belong to the town of Kilmarnock and we wanted this crest to highlight elements that come from the club's origins. You will see our anniversary crest displayed on all event notifications, merchandise and much more throughout this special time for all Killie fans. A huge thanks is due to the team involved including See Saw Creative, club historian John Livingston and Martin Le Roy, who helped provide a fans' perspective. We know our fans will wear our crest with pride throughout our 150th Anniversary celebrations and a full list of events will be announced in the very near future.

  8. I'll admit, at the start of the season I hoped Kelty got a few pastings to bring them back down to earth, but as the seasons went on, im actually rooting for you guys to do well and maybe join League 2 come May. I always felt there was a slight arrogance with the support when pastings were dished out last year, but the longer its gone on and I've read a wee bit more about Kelty and can see what they're doing, especially with the youth teams, NCP and in the community and the support you boys give to EVERY age group of lads, the more I want you to win the league and playoffs.

  9. 0 attempts on goal. 0. Zero. I find it hard to believe that even a competent pub team wouldn't manage a single attempt over 90 minutes. Fair enough taking the approach that we need to be stuffy and stop losing before we can think about winning, walk before you can run etc, but I see absolutely nothing positive to take from that performance, or indeed, absolutely anything since McIntyre was given the job. Ridiculous appointment, and I agree that Nelms needs to be seriously scrutinised. Not just for his choice of appointees in the manager position, but also for sanctioning them signing a complete and utter load of dross over the past two and a bit seasons. It seems like we've gone from taking calculated risks that sometimes pay off and sometimes don't, i.e. Hendry and Kamara, versus the likes of Deacon and Moussa, to just signing outright garbage that patently isn't up to playing at this level. I think throughout the squad, and it has become ridiculously bloated, there are probably 10-12 players who can actually cut it in this tier, however, neither of our past two managers seem to be able to identify them or coalesce them around a coherent approach or tactic. The rest are just pure deadweights who offer absolutely nothing. Why the hell did we sign Miller? It's not as if he's an unknown quantity or didn't have a recent body of work to judge him on. Who was responsible for scouting and assessing the likes of Ralph, Mendy, etc etc? Who sanctioned investing a fee in Hamilton, who appears to be no better than the ten-a-penny jobbing goalkeepers who are inevitably available to sign for free every single off-season? Somebody needs to be held accountable for this absolute omnishambles. This isn't just a run of bad luck, or the natural ebb and flow of the relative quality of a team you'll see naturally over three or four seasons, it's complete and utter intransigence.

  12. Place was mobbed, must have been a good few hundred. They had to get in extra seats. Mckinnon came across really well. Thinks he needs 8 in during January but said it will be difficult as that window is very difficult to deal in. Tommy Robson and Lewis Kidd haven't been getting played as they haven't been showing up well in training. McKinnon stated he has a big scouting network and isn't ruling out signing players from anywhere including the highland league !!! We currently have a right back at the club that they are assessing. We have no debt and have cash in the bank due to cutting our monthly running costs from £100k to £49k. Have explored the possibilities of buying the stadium from the council. Project Brave/SFA was the reason the academy was scrapped. Planning permission in for further 4g pitch at east end of ground. Once this goes down they will limit games on the stadium pitch. A new Football board is being set up consisting of manager, assistant and a director of football type dude that they are actively looking for just now to make sure there is scrutiny of signings as they admitted this summer was a massive f**k up. There was loads more but I'm quite elderly (52) and have a piss poor memory.

  13. Erm no, I don't want to be stuck in a league playing the same old clubs in a 10 mile radius thanks, this is semi-pro senior football not a pub league. Yes we want to have more games against our local rivals, but not every single game, I'd rather a trip to Eyemouth. "does not have the same character and camaraderie [as the Juniors]", actually, there is zero difference and it's good to face new teams and make new friendships.

  18. Colleague of mine died on Sunday. No idea of the cause. Went for a nap in the afternoon and never woke up. Only 30. No (known) underlying health conditions. Only been in the (pretty cushty) management job for about four months. One of the lads in security was really good pals with him, known him since school and was supposed to be meeting him on the Sunday evening and was the one to inform work what happened. Now, usually, I would be upstairs in an office on ma todd but, covering for someone on holiday, I'm at the main entrance for reception/patient affairs/security. So had about two dozen folk come by over the week so far to see him and they're having the same conversation with him each time. And, I dunno what I'm expecting other folk at work to do, but EVERYONE is asking him how he's doing then having a 10-15 minute chat about how terrible it is and how shocking it is and saying daft phrases like "Oh it goes to show you can go at any time" or "If your number's up your number's up" and security fella's doing a decent job of thanking everyone for their kind words and pretending he's not getting annoyed but it is clearly grating him and he's agitating for them to just f**k off and not remind him that his pal just died. Folk just care more about appearing to look like they're doing the right thing than actually caring.

  24. whilst i wasnt a fan of the decision to scrap the academy, i think we have to give this model a few years, 1 bad transfer window doesn't make it a bad model and could well still turn out to be the correct decision, even if it doesn't look like that ATM

  26. Just watched the FTV highlights v Ross Co on YouTube and it is encouraging to see us a bit harder to break down. Whilst the injection of Robson and the better form of Petra is very welcome the standard is still overall pretty poor. Hopefully we can build on it and grind out a few wins. Incidentally YouTube, as it does, slightly randomly jumped onto the next clip which was Falkirk v Hibs in the Scottish Cup semi 2013 - jeez the difference in the standard was night and day. Most notable was the amount of academy players in our first team - Fulton, Kingsley, Sibbald, McGrandles, Murdoch, Duffie & Alston - SEVEN OUT OF THE STARTING ELEVEN !! I know we tragically got beat 4-3 but our 3 goals came from 3 of those academy players, and it was a Scottish Cup semi - this current team will get nowhere near that level. Those who dismiss the academy as not making enough money , as well as being wrong, should have a serious re-think , Campbell & Lang along with the BOD who decided to scrap it should hang their heads in shame and get hunted from our club. Good on this new fans group for looking to restore the academy but reversing the decision will now cost decent money thanks to the current muppets in charge. Campbell & Lang out - gross negligence.

  29. absolutely this. I sit up behind the dug out when Muirhead came to the touchline injured he gestured to the bench he was done but despite this went back on and played his part in getting the draw. I've always been a supporter of his, I do think he's struggled a bit at right back thus season but at centre last night he played really well in his favoured position. he and McGhee largely nullified the best strike force in the league. hope he recovers soon

  30. On self-preservation, the original EoS 13 clubs set the example. They invited all comers to join them at the same level, pushing back their deadlines to accommodate everyone and creating conferences, outnumbering themselves two-to-one, knowing it would make it vastly harder for them to reach the LL, ensuring a tough season for most of them and a brutal season for some, all in the name of unifying the grades. If they hadn't, the PWG would still be at square one today. They're the only group of clubs that have made a sacrifice in the interests of the game. For that, I really think they deserve to be recognised as the only non-league feeder to the LL (or LL2) in the south-east of Scotland.

  33. The current BBC forecast has the rain starting at 10pm on Friday night, with the real heavy stuff arriving on Saturday morning in the build-up to kick off time. Perhaps our pitch would have been ok, but switching the game means there is no doubt about the surface being playable. With the teams having still to play each other twice, it was a sensible switch for all.

  34. I'd like an academy, it did seem to make us money and supply good quality players as well. I might go over the stadium tonight, would like to know how much the rule changes ie) number of full time coaches etc affected the viability of the academy and whether there was someone willing to cover the cost of keeping the academy going. As for the "Brentford model" it doesn't matter what we do, this model, that model, academy or something else, just get better players than the other teams in this league and we'll go up, simple!!

  36. Well once everyone is playing in the same league system (Pyramid), you will find the level your club can cope at, just like the Juniors where there are local league, and region wide leagues. When it all happens, then there is likely to the Lowland League (everywhere in Scotland south of the Tay), maybe a LL2 covering same area, East of Scotland Premier (mostly Lothians, Borders and Fife), East of Scotland First (probably same as Premier), and then East of Scotland regional leagues (eg West Lothian/Fife and East/Midlothian/Borders). If more clubs on board then you may eventually see even more localised divisions eg West Lothian. So it will be Local - Regional - Wider Regional - SPFL. So if you're a smaller club who can't generate the turnover to pay expenses then you'll likely be in a local league anyway.

  37. But what's reasonable? Take Pumpherston as an example. If they were in the EoS their outliers would be Tweedmouth and... St. Andrews? Nothing more than 90 minutes and that would be only a handful of times a year. If they did make it to the Lowland League then I guess Dumfries and Galloway would be the outlier. The most extreme, depending on promotions and relegations, would be Stranraer once a year at three hours. Most of their games would still be an hour or so and, if ye've been promoted, the outlook and circumstances of players and the club would change in line with the league yer in.

I hate the bullshit folk talk about sales. I hate the targets you are invariably set. I hate the lack of morals that almost always creeps in. I hate salespeople in the main as they tend to be total bellends.

  39. No, we were probably third best last season of clubs in that radius behind Broxburn and Fauldhouse. People are far too obsessed by "local football", last years Premier League was great, as will the EoS in future. Constantly playing clubs a few miles doon the road holds no attraction for me personally. A mixture of local and not so local is best, that's what the Juniors always have been anyway.

  41. It's just like with the Northern League south of the border. When the English pyramid took off with the formation of the Conference underneath the Football League, they could have been right underneath the Conference at tier 6. They didn't want to take part and now they are tier 9. All down to their own refusal to co-operate at first...

  43. Agree with most of your outlook on not working too much etc, but the bold bit is bollocks. I’ve done a few jobs that were more physically demanding in the past, but my current office-based job requires far more hard work than any I’ve done previously. People seem to associate physical work (no matter how mentally easy and monotonous) as ‘hard work’, but mentally strenuous jobs take it out of you more in my experience.

  44. I’ll say it as it is, seen as my name suits! Unfortunately, times have changed when we were playing back in the day. This problem goes well past being just a footballing issue and footballers not wanting to play. This is more of an economy issue and personal finance issue. Players nowadays, or should I say families nowadays, cannot afford for the man of the house to go spend their Saturdays playing football. Their Mrs May work weekends and children need watched or the guy may need to work weekends/overtime/shift work. Unfortunately, at amateur level, football doesn’t pay the bills. The cost of living has by far increased and one basic wage no longer covers this cost. Also football is another cost on its own and is also getting dearer to play and for equipment to play.
