  3. I just want to point out that many fans didn't want a 'run of the mill' been round the houses manager. So the board has delivered exactly the opposite and listened to the fans. It seems he excelled regards preparation for the interview process and he does tick a lot of boxes, not least he has played at the top in Scotland and England, has 55 national team caps (wont forget that Hampden winner v France!), worked under old school and more modern managers, won the FA Cup and has seen success as a manager as well as some failure and all of this as he is only 36 years old. He may not excite everyone but the professionalism the club has had through this process in the last 7-10 days from Archie's removal to the interview process, having Gerry and Scott take the team, Christie going back to playing, Banzo stepping up as captain at weekend and now Gary's appointment, we've got a good bunch of players and a staff that all want to be the best they can be. Our club isn't perfect, but hopefully many fans will see the board and the administration, who work very hard, are doing things the right way and structure of professionalism to achieve success. We just need the right management team to inspire and develop the players in the squad. Let's hope this is the start of one of those era's again with Gary and Brian. Time to show some positivity and get behind new manager, the players but also recognize the board have done well in this process and communicated well to the support. Results are now needed, but in past we've not done it this way. So let's hope 3-4K fans show up this weekend to push the team on and get us back up the league! Mon' the Jags!

  4. Fair play to you, this is a very bad post. If you think appointing someone who was last seen shouting "f**k THE SFA" at a room full of bigots, despite the reason he was shouting it having nothing to do with the SFA, doesn't deserve a slaughtering then I am lost. No one deserves admiration in this situation. No surprise to see Dunfermline fans all for the appointment either.

  5. Thanks for all your messages! My head is rattling with pills so awake at stupid hours just now, just as well I'm use to it as hopefully Fraser will be home in the not too distant future. That's him taking quite a few bottle feeds this week and his oxygen is even lower. The wee smasher. As for me, it's all positive from now on.

  6. Let's not forget it was a sympathy medal he got as well. He should have been nowhere the squad that day due to his injury. A tremendous club servant in John Philliben didn't get a medal as a result.

  10. Sadly it wont. It obviously wasn't all perfect and society has changed but it's been wiped out for police control and financial reasons, not the safety excuses it's masked as. This is highlighted by a couple of cracking new rugby league grounds that have been built in England that echo many of these old fashioned football grounds and would be absolutely ideal for the vast majority of Scottish football and many English league clubs. Rugby league terracing with traditional crush barriers = no problem. Football terracing with traditional crush barriers = omg, death traps, twitter meltdown, questions asked in parliament.

  11. Folk probably being a bit harsh with regards to his previous spell at clyde just because of who he is. Surely he deserves another go at it. Sometimes it just dosent work for a manager or a player for that matter at a certain club. Dosent mean to say that they cant move on and be a success at another club. Our managers cv wasnt looking the best when he joined us but he has adapted well to the league and has the team winning games. Cant ask for much more. For what its worth i think its a good bold appointment from kelty and for the profile of the league.

  13. BF was the first person with a bit of ambition involved at Clyde for a number of years. He apparently worked every hour of the day and did a huge amount away from the pitch with charity/community events. He improved our professionalism (which probably means little to fans but not players); organised pre-season tours, arranged for us to stay overnight before Elgin, Brora etc. got us training on a full-size pitch, personalised training kit, video analysis etc. He signed a fair few players that were probably a bit beyond what we could expect to have brought in (Scott Linton, Alan Martin, Dylan Easton, Peaso MacDonald) and plenty of others who were (or should have been) decent players at our level, binning those who weren't good enough. It was a huge contrast to Jim Duffy's time when everyone we signed was a guy who had been released by another team for being rubbish. I know a player or two, contracted when he arrived, but who were quickly released in his tenure and whilst slagging off his man-management (he didn't talk to one of them for six weeks), they said his training was light years ahead of anything they'd seen before. They absolutely loved it, despite hating him. He literally never criticised a referee, or other sides/players. In his second season, we were a team who got close to challenging (we were actually top of the league at half-time in the sixth last game) but ran out of steam after a horrible run of midweek games. Queen's Park deserved to beat us in the play-off final but with all sorts of injuries (particularly our captain, Mark McLaughlin) and suspensions we still took it down to the final minute of the game. However, there's absolutely no doubt that he had serious man-management issues. A number of long-term staff left, fed-up with his attitude. Properly tearing into players, particularly younger lads. Scott McLaughlin mentions quite a bit about it in THIS Tell Him He's Pele Podcast. Tactically he'd change what he was doing every time we lost a game and we never really had any consistency as a result. Despite what I said earlier about signings, he completely overhauled the team four or fives times in his two and a half years (he started like Barcelona and was at Stoke 12 months later, having gone everywhere in between). By the end of his stint, we were a dire side and he had no way of fixing it. The goalkeeper he had re-signed was continually a bombscare, and Ross Perry/Chris Smith were shipping multiple goals every game. The couple of players who were difference makers (Linton, Easton) were injured. To give him some credit, he left of his own accord when it became clear we weren't getting near the promotion playoffs. Clyde fans were delighted when he left but it's not a huge stretch to suggest that things could have gone differently, in his second season. If, and it's a big if, he's got a better realisation of the demands of part-timers and an acceptance of the fact they're not as good as he was, then him going to Kelty may well work out. I think an assistant with a better idea of the lower leagues would have helped, rather than Bob Malcolm. I'm not convinced. I certainly think he's worth another shot in management though and he'd take credit for going down to that level. I'd rather have him than Jim Chapman anyway .

  14. There's absolutely no way anyone should accept someone like Thornton Hibs or Whitburn getting into a promotion play-off for the LL based on the East Region Superleague. The ship has sailed in the east and it would be unconscionable to allow smaller teams who stayed behind in a lesser set-up that was never in the pyramid to be magically lifted to the level of those who moved into the pyramid. The issue of Tayside (including north Fife) needs to be sorted, Scotland's demographic spread is weird because of the Grampian mountains and the liveable parts of the east narrows to a few miles at Stonehaven. Personally I'd be in favour of saying those south of the Tay are in the East, those north of Montrose are in the North, and those in between may choose. But what's not really acceptable is to say that Tayside is big enough to come in at the same level as the West and the East. They could perhaps have a league at Tier 7 potentially feeding North and/or East play-offs, but they definitely should not have a league at Tier 6.

  16. Some more pictures of the original Bayview, found online and 'borrowed' for this thread. Was along the classic lines of Scottish grounds: 3 sides of terracing, with a covered enclosure along the side of the park, and a seated grandstand on the opposite side. I regret never having had the chance to see a game there as it looks a great wee Park, steep terracing close to the pitch and located in the town. You feel that new stand they have now, in place of the stand and directors glass box thing in the first picture, with the other 3 sides the same, and you'd have the perfect lower league ground. As flyboy says, must be heartbreaking for East Fife fans comparing it to the single Stand soulless place their chairman at the time landed them with.

  19. You lot will all know this, but I only found it out today and thought it was astonishing. In Killie's 38 Premiership matches since Clarke took over, they have 72 points. That's the second-best record in the country over that period. Breaking 70 points is pretty rare in Scotland for anyone outside the Old Firm. Aberdeen have done it four times in a row, but I think they'd only done it once before that since the time of Fergie. The only teams to have beaten Killie in any competitions in Clarke's time are Aberdeen, Hibs, Rangers and Hearts. In four games against double treble champions Celtic they have two wins and two draws. They've only conceded two goals in those games. That's ridiculous. I've never seen anyone turn around a club faster than Stevie Clarke at Killie. As a neutral, Killie have been a boring fixture in Scottish football for many years, probably for all but a couple of brief spells since the late 90s. You were heading down the drain when he arrived. Now, if they're on the telly and playing another top-end team, I'm watching. I hope you cling on to him for years to come, he's made Kilmarnock a force to be reckoned with and a team worth watching.

  31. No, Craig Curran won't surprise you. Works incredibly hard for the cause - arguably too hard - but doesn't take many chances and occasionally has to be subbed to avoid getting sent off. He must be an absolute b*****d to play against. You'll end up respecting the fact that he absolutely doesn't shirk responsibility, but recognise that he's no great loss when you've got a team which dominates. He also has a recurring concussion issue, which made the three year contract absolutely bewildering. Also it's best that he avoids Ryan Air. Good for ten goals a season and a tonne of work rate.

  32. Listened to the open goal interview with Stephen Dobbie last week and he spoke highly of Barry Ferguson at Blackpool. Most wouldn’t have taken the Clyde job there were few guarantees that was going to end positively. I’d like to see him get another chance.

  33. Saw this on The Scotsman's web site. 18 February 1968 looking down Tannadice Street probably taken from a house on Sandeman Street the day Dundee United were at home in an early kick-off to Hearts and Dundee at home to Rangers in the Scottish Cup. Was at the United game hoping to go along to Dens after but police had stopped letting people through. Finished 5-6 to Hearts with United missing a penalty and 1-1 at Dens. 9,021 at Tannadice and 33,000 at Dens. Wonder how many, if any, lums you'd see nowadays?

  36. The bold one is already not true, in Germany the last B team got relegated from the 3rd tier last season. They are absolutely despised by lower league fans, who generally feel they don't add anything to the divisions and bring no fans. There are various people in the German game trying to get rid of them. The same goes for The Netherlands, where their introduction in the lower tiers has been extremely unpopular and terrible for the leagues, meaning the clubs are now trying to get rid of them. But from your post it's quite clear: you don't give a sh!t about the lower divisions, the Premiership is all that counts for you...

  37. They have nothing to add to the competition, bring low crowds and are just used as development of players. A senior competition shouldn't be used for that, they should just stick with playing each other. Plus, I fear this is being used as a way to introduce colt teams in the lower divisions, which would kill lower division football. I can see no proper argument at all for these teams being in the competition in the first place. As I care about lower league football, I'd never go to a game involving any of them and I hope colt teams will be removed from this competition.

  39. My job is so fucking unbelievable. I'll try to sum it up by first telling you about the folks I work with: First, there is this supermodel wanna-be chick. Yeah, okay, she is pretty hot, but damn is she completely useless. The girl is constantly fixing her hair or putting on makeup. She is extremely self-centered and has never once considered the needs or wants of anyone but herself. She is as dumb as a box of rocks, and I still find it surprising that she has enough brain power to continue to breathe. The next chick is completely the opposite. She might even be one of the smartest people on the planet. Her career opportunities are endless, and yet she is here with us. She is a zero on a scale of 1 to 10. I'm not sure she even showers, much less shaves her "womanly" parts. I think she might be a lesbian, because every time we drive by the hardware store, she moans like a cat in heat. But the jewel of the crowd has got to be the fucking stoner. And this guy is more than just your average pothead. In fact, he is baked before he comes to work, during work, and I'm sure after work. He probably hasn't been sober anytime in the last ten years, and he's only 22. He dresses like a beatnik throwback from the 1960's, and to make things worse, he brings his big fucking dog to work. Every fucking day I have to look at this huge Great Dane walk around half-stoned from the second-hand smoke. Hell, sometimes I even think it's trying to talk with its constant bellowing. Also, both of them are constantly hungry, requiring multiple stops to McDonalds and Burger King, every single fucking day. Anyway, I drive these fucktards around in my van and we solve mysteries and shit.
