  4. Can we not just enjoy ourselves just now instead of bickering about crowd numbers, stay away fans and wether the chairman has done a good job or not? We are sitting top of the league by two points, people seem to forget anything above 8th is an achievement! The aim is to stay up and establish ourselves and just now we are seeing something marvellous we haven’t seen for a long, long time. The crowd numbers are just about right and increasing with momentum. I had a look at a few statistics and when we were in the top flight in the 70’s, the crowd numbers outwith the so called bigger games were averaging 3.5k. That’s when there was an abundance of industry about the auld toon with the stamp works, aerospace, a functioning harbour....to name a few. So round about 2.5k is also an achievement after the dark years we’ve been through. Fans are starting to come back, albeit slowly. As long as there’s money going through the turnstile and it’s increasing then embrace it.

  5. What money? Outwith a couple of cup runs there hasn’t been a magic pot of gold. It’s not like we’ve been raking in the transfer fees. The club has been running at a deficit for years and has needed directors loans to stay solvent. All the money from Cup runs etc just goes towards reducing the deficit. Id be interested to see the clubs financials from last year as there’s no way with league one crowds and full time football that we would have been even close to breaking even. Like it or no without Lachlan the club would be dead. Lapsed fans with chips on their shoulders and their one man protests are not helping either. Get behind the club.

  10. The majority of yesterday's team was a bunch of youth players who finished bottom of the U20 league last season, have been turned over in most reserve games this season and who got called "embarrasing, shameful" etc when they lost 5-1 to Utd in their last game. I doubt many of them will manage to have a career in the game, never mind get another professional club if we release them at the end of the season. When you're at the bottom everyone kicks you. Continuously. Suddenly those boys found themselves playing in a game where they're not only competing but able to do well, and you want them to ease up? Aidan Laverty scored a hattrick yesterday. I've never seen him score even one for us before. Knowing Aidan, he'll have walked into the club this morning with a big cheesy grin on his face. He and he and his teammates, at least, will be able to hold their heads up when the senior pros ask how they got on. Good for them. It's not their fault that the opposition chose to put out a weakened team, as someone alleged earlier in the thread. They turned in a performance and maybe even gave the manager something to think about. The trialists maybe gave themselves a chance of a contract, or at least another game to show what they can do.. Kev's hattrick reminded the new management that they still have a striker who knows where the goals are. Would you like to tell any of those guys that it was bad form for them to try and impress?

  11. Those still staying away for bizarre reasons or because they are out of the habit of going are quite simply missing out on a special period in our recent history. Having stood and watched us get absolutely shagged by teams like Cowdenbeath, East Fife and Stirling Albion during my 20 years as a ST Holder, I can honestly say that what I am witnessing at Somerset right now is all that any football fan could ever ask for. A team that absolutely love playing here, love playing for each other and who give absolutely everything that they have got to do well for the club. Having seen some of the absolute charlatans that have been brought here in recent years, we really need to make the most of what we currently have. I f****g love this team.

  12. Hard to imagine that anyone is giving Campbell a hard time here. I know first hand how much time and effort goes into running a club ... try doing it virtually ( if not actually ) on your own... in the middle of the run the team are on ... consistently having to pay expenses out of your own pocket... and dealing with the transition to the new set-up. Yoker are lucky to have him and you have to fear for their future if he gives up the ghost. I'd not be giving him any kind of stick - I'd be grateful for what he's doing

  16. I don't think anyone is living in a fantasy world, other than the few who didn't think Aitken needed to go. We assembled a fantastic squad for this level, which is pretty good going for a club supposedly on its knees and a baw hair away from imminent bankruptcy. 8 points from the first quarter was simply unacceptable, regardless of the injury situation. Besides, what's said on here has literally zero impact on what happens in the boardroom, so I'm not sure why you're getting your knickers in such a twist about it. If you have such concerns about the running of the club, go and express them directly to the Chairman.

  19. Absolutely gutted to see Robbie leave after the game on Saturday. I feel for him and as BM says he will bounce back when the time is right. He was the right man for the job but preparations for this season were not good with developments in the boardroom. The post below isn't meant to point the finger at anyone but more a look at how difficult the job of managing Berwick Rangers has become. We are reaching one of the most crucial periods in the clubs history and everyone needs to be together to see us through. The threat of relegation is real and getting closer by the day, the outcome of that is honestly not worth thinking about. Looking back at the last four managerial appointments, I believe all four were good decisions but the one common denominator was evident with the quartet and that was the struggle to attract the right players to the club. The four were all good coaches and tactically knew the game. I didn't agree with the way John Coughlin handled his exit first time around so I didn't entirely agree with bringing him back but certainly didn't doubt his managerial skills. During John's first spell as manager he had a good group of players with a solid backbone with the likes of O'Connor, Horn, McNicholl and Wood. We were able to compete in the transfer market back then and also match wages, the additions of Diack and McGroaty made a huge difference to the pool when joining in the January window. Both based in the west and didn't have a problem with travelling. I am not saying we had a massive playing budget but other clubs had similar amounts to spend at that time and we pulled out a few stops to attract players to the club. Since then our budget has remained at similar level but other clubs have seen considerable investment and as a result attracted better players. Edinburgh City is a prime example of this and while competing with players in the same catchment area, the lure of that extra £50 - £100 a week is the difference. The answer certainly isn't to gamble and throw money at players we can't afford, we need to be sensible. This makes the job extremley difficult for any manager. The biggest factor is money and players tend to go where they get the most. Ian Little, Colin Cameron, John Coughlin and Robbie Horn were extremely good managers and getting some-one better is going to be difficult for the reasons listed above. Yes it could have been so different and we should be looking at a totally different squad right now had we planned accordingly this summer. Robbie was first told a budget, then that figure was reduced and then returned to the orignal figure before being increased at the end of the window. The club weren't facing any immediate cash problems and that extra 20% from the outset would have brought a totally different outlook. Of course it's much easier after the event but thankfully the people involved in making such financial decisions are no longer at the club. Players Robbie targeted are listed below, he knew what he was looking for and knew where he wanted to be with his squad but couldn't compete financially with a few moving to clubs closer to their home as well. Josh Peters (Queens Park), Kris Renton (Cowdenbeath), Alan Smith, Blair Henderson, Danny Handling, Scott Shephard, Liam Henderson, Adam Watson (All Edinburgh City). Johnny Court (East Fife), Dougie Hill (Brechin City), Dean Brett and Alan Horne both decided to stay at Bonnyrigg, Peter Ramage (USA), Jamie Longworth (East Kilbride), Andy Little (not sure where he ended up). There will be many more I don't know about and have forgotten but just imagine how demoralising that was for Robbie. Knock back after knock back. Looking forward, I have been saying for a while that the SC and ST need to go public and put there shares up for sale in the hope they can find a buyer/invester to come on board. People keep saying there is nobody out there but it costs nothing to find out. After all we have a player in our squad right now that was part of a deal that offered to put 600k into a club in our league during the summer. We aren't we speaking to him or made an approach. I wish good health to Robbie and as a friend and supporter thank him and his coaching staff for their efforts. Good Luck to Lenny, John and the rest of the board this week with the task of finding a replacement. Personally I think there is a standout candidate in Johnny Harvey.

  22. My overall feeling is that we have to get Cadden out of wing-back, as it's absolutely killing us. I feel for him, because he's giving it whatever he can there, but you're asking him to do less of the best bit of his game, which is running fast and bodying people on the wing. Every time things have gone to shit and he's launched further forward he, and we, look dangerous, because everyone else up there is so one paced. His crossing has always been so-so, but the pace and power he has is something that no-one else in our squad has. If ATS isn't the guy to play wing-back, then stick Grimshaw or Rose ahead of him in a 4-4-2 so he's got some protection, but we've got to get some pace in the team. Teams know they can sit deep because no-one is going to get in behind. I was watching the Betfred semi the other day and was struck by how high Cadden was in the game. Yes, his game has flaws and no, he hasn't kicked on as we'd hoped, but he's the only one that can stretch and move opposition defences about, so it'd be dead sound if we could stop fucking about with him there.

  25. This decision will probably allow us to get an extra 2-3 players added to our budget each season. Not ideal but it is what it is. I thought Scott’s explanation behind the decision was more than suffice and the compensation offered was fine too.

  31. It’s far from shite. The club was crippled by a huge tax bill which we did not have the means to pay. Without benefactors putting money into the club, with no real expectation that it would be repaid, we we were heading towards insolvency. Today the club still runs at a huge deficit. We wouldn’t be watching the team we are without huge personal backing from Cameron.

Hibs accounts have been released: https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/football/hibs/hibs-accounts-easter-road-club-back-in-the-black-1-4811243 £200,000 pre-tax profit which does not include the £3,000,000 sale of John McGinn, or the purchases of Kamberi, Horgan and Mallan (which will probably be c.£500,000). Also have no bank debt and own our stadium and training centre. Brilliant stuff from Hibs, what a time to be a supporter!

  35. Feel for Robbie. He was dealt a shit card in the summer and by the time he did receive a boost to his budget, it was almost impossible to bring in players beyond who was left. He should go on to succeed elsewhere and if he does, see no reason why he couldn’t be a candidate for the job in future, praying the club then, isn’t as shambolic as it was over the summer. As for a replacement. I’m torn between someone who knows the league and stabilise things, and an up and coming manager who’s been doing it in the juniors/non-league. Neil Oliver fits neither of these, and I still find the suggestion from some that he in anyway deserves ‘a chance’ utterly ridiculous considering he’s made next to no effort to do anything in management. Being from Berwick isn’t enough.

  38. Except that not the case before the embargo happened as you well know - Junior clubs who wanted to apply for a licence had to commit to the pyramid, which is why Kelty moved in the first place. Which league are we talking about - the East Juniors, which has no entry to the Lowland League, or the East of Scotland League, which has no Tayside members? How can something be a fact when there is no possibility of it happening? Oh, so you're "not sure" about something but are totally sure to such an extent you state it as a "fact" something that contradicts rules that are written down and have been quoted multiple times on here? Ah, the old "from what I've been told" gambit. I'd have thought by now you'll know that you need to take everything with a massive pinch of salt. Especially if they are connected to TJ and the SJFA. So this is all actually just based on some half-arsed, back of an envelope make-up pie in the sky plan and nothing official? I'd have probably led with that tbh. Would have made you look a little less deluded. [emoji6]
