  2. I have been reliably informed that an unveiling video is being finished off just now. Its all a bit cryptic really but seemingly a guy goes running into the toilet shouting "I really really need a jobby" then five minutes later the door opens and our new manager walks out. [emoji848]

  5. I was absolutely gutted when McCall left us. The football and the experience of that half season (to be fair it did continue after he'd gone pretty much) was fantastic and probably the best of my time supporting Falkirk, tinged with devastation at the loss of Brockville and denial of promotion, an absolute roller coaster of a season. At the time I'd have loved to have kicked the utter shit out of him, but time passes and when you look at it objectively of course any sane person isn't going to turn down the offer he got. It's a job, not a vocation, and he went after the dollar and security for him and his family. 99% of people would have done the same. So, that all said - COME HOME JOBBY!

  7. The state of the competitions is beyond a joke. UEFA has 55 members, Spain are No1 and Kosovo are No55 in rankings. Champions League 79 teams enter, The group stages have 32 teams but of these 26 are already allocated group slots, meaning that the other 53 teams are chasing the last 6 spots, and of the 26 automatic qualifiers 21 of these come from only 6 countries (Spain, Germany, England, Italy, France & Russia) Europa League 213 teams enter + all 47 teams that get knocked out of the Champions League get a second go in the Europa League, Lincoln Red Imps after getting knocked out of the Champions League Prelim Rd were then knocked out of the Europa League 2nd Qualifying Rd by The New Saints. All these teams are chasing the 48 Group places, but again 17 of these are pre-allocated meaning 242 teams are chasing 31 group places*. Again of the 17 automatic places 11 of these are for the top 6 countries. * As earlier posts 4 3rd Rd Champions League losers automatically get group slots. These top 6 country entries don't even take into account tems like Burnley, Atalanta, Bordeaux, Sevilla etc that are in the qualifiers and from these countries. If you look at the figues combined of 80 group places with only 37 places available for 248 teams to fight over as the top 44 places are automatic and 32 of those, 40% , are a in the hands of Spain, Germany, England, Italy, France and Russia. That is 6 of the 55 members or 10.9% of UEFA It is nothing about football and all about the same big teams playing the same big teams every season for lots of money.

  12. Kerr Waddell scored the same number of goals against Hearts that, excluding penalties, Moussa took until the 2nd last game of the season to equal. Waddell’s reward was to be dropped and then loaned out. Cammy Kerr’s confidence appears to have dropped significantly during McCann’s tenure. He used to take on players regularly. Not so now. Add to that he was made vice captain far too soon IMHO. Matty Henvey, in one of his very few first team appearances scores an important goal against Hamilton weeks before Moussa scores his first goal in the league from open play. He has rarely featured since, even taking into account his injury. Moussa meanwhile is a regular pick. It’s easy for us as fans to show loyalty. I buy my season ticket and one each for both the kids and we turn up every week because that’s what Saturdays are all about. When you are trying to build a successful career in football you have to do what you think is best for yourself. Right now if I was a young player at Dens I’m not convinced I would see McCann as the best person to further my career. That last sentence pains me to say! I personally wish Wighton all the best and I am extremely grateful for what he did while he was here.

  15. Totally - but I don't think it was just the supporters that were affected. One of the things that I find interesting about the last week after Hartely's comments and all the sad hand-wringing that followed was that it probably was a positive for us in the end and did it's job. I saw the cliche "that's their team talk done for them" trotted out and that turned out to be true I think- but not in the way people meant. After that, all the talk from Rangers was around "battles", "warriors" and "physicality" (which we should have embossed on our strip rather than 1886) and Gerard's team selection and formation (moving away from what has worked so far in other words) was done to combat our hammerthrowers. Even the last minute panicky sub they made was partly because Gerard bought the "big unit" patter when he saw Connor Sammon running about like a headless chicken. You shouldn't interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake - but I've been interested over the past year how many teams have adapted their normal style to combat a threat from us that has been blown out of proportion in the press. Two contrasting examples - Hibs have changed nothing to play against us and have pretty much killed us every time with good wide play and pace - and Aberdeen, where McInnes has constantly tinkered to try to "match us" which has totally played into our hands and we've done well (eg, Pittodrie last season, SC Semi). I'm quite happy if the over the top hype about us continues to be honest.

  16. I learned about this the other day, surprised it's not more known. Mohammed Salim (Celtic, 1936). The first player from India to play for a European club side. As seen in the bottom images, he played barefoot. Never speaking English, he came over on a boat with his brother who could speak English. His brother managed to persuade Willie Maley to give Mohammed a trial despite the fact that he insisted on playing barefoot. He impressed and played in two friendlies barefoot. He was given a competitive debut against Hamilton Academical when he scored in a 5-1 win. After a 7-1 win over Galston in August 1936 he was dubbed the Indian Juggler. Couple of reports from that match..... "Ten twinkling toes of Salim, Celtic FC's player from India hypnotised the crowd at Parkhead last night in an Alliance game with Galston. He balances the ball on his big toe, lets it run down the scale to his little toe, twirls it, hops on one foot around the defender, then flicks the ball to the center who has only to send it into goal. Three of Celtic's seven goals last night came from his moves. Was asked to take a penalty, he refused. Said he was shy. Salim does not speak English, his brother translates for him. Brother Hasheem thinks Salim is wonderful – so did the crowd last night." "Abdul Salim, Celtic's Indian International trialist, tickled the crowd at Celtic Park on Friday with his magnificent ball manipulation. In his bare feet he was a conspicuous figure but this was further emphasised by his dark skin against the white and green of the Celtic strip. His play was top class. Every ball he touched went exactly to the place he wanted it to. Not one inch was it out. His crosses into goal were simply shrieking to be nodded into the net. I wouldn't like to have calculated the score had McGrorybeen playing ..... [Danny] Dawson missed a penalty kick which Salim, despite the invitation of Alex Millar, refused to take." He became homesick and was determined to return to India. Celtic offered him a charity game promising him 5% of the total gate in return of staying at Celtic. Mohammed refused and asked for the proceeds, £1,800, an incredible sum at the time to be donated to local orphans. And he was off back home to Calcutta.

  17. He certainly has. Borderline racist chat about Chinese folk which, on top of his 2 warnings already, was enough to see him binned. Can't imagine anyone will be too disappointed.

  18. Got to say the professionalism being shown by the club recently is refreshing, two situations with McCall and Shankland and we get statements letting us know exactly what's going on and keeping us fans in the loop instead of keeping stum and letting the Chinese whispers get out of hand, it looks like we are getting our act together behind the scenes as well as on the park.

  22. I appreciate it might not be the best time for a post after a home defeat, but I would like to thank the club for their hospitality to the Vale Committee last night and also to the banter around our band of 11 supporters. I'm sure to the neutral it was quite an exciting game, it was to us especially the last 12 minutes when we were defending with our lives. I'm also sure you have enough quality in the side to be up amongst the top team teams this season again. So thanks again and I hope we will return the hospitality when you visit Innerleithen later in the season.

  25. Would be gutted to see him go but I think it will be good for him tbh. Hasn't really kicked on here and may benefit from a change of scene. If he does leave I fully expect to see him ripping the piss out of our defence in future. He will always be the Dabslayer.

  31. Except he got fewer votes, and his electoral college margin was one of the lowest in history. The Republican Party, whose ticket he headed, lost seats in both the House and the Senate. You could say it was a shock win, an improbable win, an unthinkable win and you'd be right. But in no sense was it a landslide. Champ.

  32. I'm probably being a bit naughty here as I'm sure BPM will bite, but the BOD have actually listened to the fans over the last few appointments. Most of us (myself included) wanted Houston & Hartley brought in, and my gut feeling is that the new manager will be one of the four you've mentioned, which continues the trend of appointing popular managers. They also sacked the last two incumbents at pretty much the exact point when fan reactions to continual defeats meant they'd passed the point of no return. Compare that with the "no we won't sack him" speech from MR at the open-air meeting post HMRC-gate when he wouldn't even consider the idea of getting rid of Pressley, despite being told by multiple folk that the fans didn't want him. Since the newer directors came onto the board they seems to be more receptive to fans opinions, as least when it come to the hiring and firing and managers. Which is why I doubt why we'll bring in someone who doesn't have any either close knowledge of the Scottish Championship or a track record of success at a higher level. Mind you, I doubted that we'd get a doing from Queens on Saturday and I'm sure Mr Dust or Edibairn will quickly remind me how that turned out....

  33. If we bring in Gauld, alongside GMS, Shinnie, May and Tansey, McInnes just needs to sign Lionel Ainsworth to complete the had-a-brilliant-2013/14-season set. A fine vintage.

  36. Jim Duffy would be a stable appointment. We could do worse than appointing him on a deal until the end of the season IMO then assess where we are when we get to that point. If we aren't careful and go balls out on a risky appointment and it fucks up only to sack another manager within a year, we risk being seen as a poisoned chalice and the cycle of turnover and struggling begins again. It would definitely be an underwhelming appointment but a little bit of 'ship-steadying' might not go amiss right now.

  43. I can see why team Britannia is so upset. 50k raised in under 4 hours, by just less than 1900 individuals with an average donation of under £30 including the odd funster who paid £1 to call him a c**t in the comments. Nothing rips a British Nationalists knitting quite like being reminded what having genuine grassroots support looks like.

  44. Anyone donating to that crowdfunder is absolutely off their head. It's got about £12,000 so far! Salmond is of course innocent until proven guilty (and I voted for indy, and for his SNP twice) but if you're paying out of your pocket to help a politician defend themselves against harassment claims, just because you like their cause you are a fucking lunatic.
