  2. I have to agree with you there. Our situation in the ‘70’s and 80’s, coupled with United’s success around that time, saw a lot of my school mates at the time choose Tannadice as their Saturday afternoon destination. Despite the fact their dads and granddads had supported Dundee. Better off without that sort of supporter in my opinion. They’ll only turn on the club and chairman and as soon as things go a bit wrong. Dundee fans have repeatedly shown what’s required when the club needs them. The supporters of a certain much larger club showed that the size of your support means little when times get tough. It’s the quality that counts. One club. One Name. 125 years and counting!

  17. Miles from arsed about signing Sammon, fwiw. I'd be amazed if we're paying a significant amount for him from Hearts, and as such is almost no risk. If he's humpty he can sit on the bench for the season and be a regular in the signing zone. He's probably got the shoulders to play steelman for a bit. I don't think he's particularly good, but then again I was buzzing for bigi and thought Fisher would do a turn. He's also better than the competition winner that we slung on to change games last year, which is kind of the point of all everything Robinson has said all summer. Improve 12-19 and we've done that. On that as well, I'm heavy bored of the stone cold patter merchants talking about buying neck braces and how we're hoofing it. If you're telling me you didn't enjoy last season, then you're a liar or a weirdo.

  18. It's been a while since a few teams in this division will have visited each other (well, it is for Dumbarton fans anyway), so I thought getting a wee away day guide on the go for each team would be worth while (Mods, can this be pinned also?). So to kick us off with Dumbarton: DUMBARTON BY TRAIN If you're arriving by train then Dumbarton East is your best shout. It's a short 10 minute walk to the ground and you have the Stags Head pub at the station entrance. The Stags has a big screen with football on, pool table, excellent jukebox and a (very) small beer garden (which doesn't get much sun). Alternatively you could keep on the train to Dumbarton Central, from there you can walk into the high street (2 minute walk) where you have an array of different pubs to choose from, ranging from old man pubs with cheap halves on offer to pubs trying to be that wee bit posher and forgetting they're in Dumbarton. There's a Weatherspoons there called the Captain James Lang if those sort of pubs are your thing, further along there is the Counting House and Clipper which are all quite similar pubs, those 3 would be your best bet if you're looking for something to eat with your pint and all have decent beer gardens (with the exception of the Clipper). The Weatherspoons is the only one which won't be showing any football or the like on a Saturday. The high street is probably around a 10-15 minute walk to the ground, but it's easy enough to navigate. BY BUS/CAR If you're arriving by car/bus then you'll likely be dropped at the stadium, in which case the Rock bowling club is the closest pub for you. TV, pool table and good prices to be found there. If bowling clubs aren't for you then a short walk back to the Stags Head will be your best bet. Unfortunately the bar in the stadium is not available to away fans. AT THE STADIUM Edited this post as there has been a wee change in how things are done regarding the bar at the stadium. I'm led to believe that League 1 opposition fans will now be allowed access through the home turnstile, with a steward escorting you to the away end at around 10 to 3. Hopefully it all works without problem and we can get back to having a bit of banter with opposition pre-match! We're looking to have pre-match entertainment this season too, so should be plenty on for any fans looking for a beer! I don't foresee any issues this year with fans being upset at our ticket prices, but just to be fair here I will highlight that if you're a complete jakey and don't want to pay the ticket price, then feel free to buy some cans of shite lager, pay your entrance fee to the Castle (£5) and watch the game from up there. It closes at 4pm and you'll be asked to leave but it'll make a good twitter post for you to share with your friends.

  23. Locke is utterly bizarre to look back at. Came in with a complete track record of failure to us. The board say he's bringing experience, but you had fans begging them not to bring him in because they knew he'd be shit. The players seemed to love him (going by Bobby Barr's interview with the Pele Podcast). The board loved him for his budgeting. But it felt like the club and the fans were on a completely different wavelength. We wasted so many wages on the likes of Osei, Coustrain, Thorsen and Scott Roberts along with first teamers who didn't perform like Skacel. The coup de grace was loaning out Vaughan for Ryan Stevenson. At that point, everyone knew the club has lost the plot. The deals that season may well have burned the bridges for a lot of sponsors. Commercially, we were utterly toxic. We spent more time appealing to Hearts fans for hospitality at the Scottish Cup than we did to Rovers. Fwiw, I'm glad that now the club seem open to suggestions from fans about what we can do to improve. I appreciate that we've got a team of volunteers for a lot of areas, but there's adjustments which could be made which could look to bring us a bit forward.

  24. I think what you mean is this is what happens when we have to operate within our means. The club can only spend money it brings in, which will all have been impacted by increasing debt and relegation leading to falling crowds, falling sponsorship, and falling prize money. They are operating a budget with the funds we have. Look at the squads McKinnon and Locke ran - maybe that was the problem in the past - too much money wasted on big squads and is now taking its toll because of the amount of debt we have racked up over the years. I get the feeling some fans stil think we are a mid table Championship side, and want us to shell out money we don't have nor have no chance of bringing in. Reality check required for some folk.

  28. Your approach to justice reminds me of the ref in charge of a junior game a colleague of mine played in. This guy was, ahem, a highly combative midfielder and a defender got so riled he spat at him. The defender was duly laid out by a right hook. The ref ran over, pulling out his red card. My mate protested "the b*****d spat at me!". The ref replied "the red card's for him - I never saw you punch him". That's the sort of proper refereeing you don't get any more.

  29. Some of the hand-wringing snowflakes coming on here cracking on about Gowser’s heinous crime ffs. Was he out of order? - of course. Is gobbing on someone the action of a dirty wee b*****d - yep. Should the bouncer have grown a pair and just rapped his pus rather than go greeting to the Police? - without doubt. Think that covers it.

  30. I didn't think Mackin was that bad tonight. He is a big presence and at times he showed how hard he makes it for defenders. I still think he needs fitness work and match time but I can see him being a big player for us this season

  33. Get well soon is obviously inappropriate here, so I hope the club stick some collection buckets out for the first league game a raise a bit of cash for Motor Neurone charities in Hagens name. Always horrible to see someone who's only association you have with them being as an athlete taken down like that. Unfortunately there is no better driver for charity than seeing a familiar face suffering. Sad news anyway due to it being one horrendous b*****d of a disease.

  35. Saw some socialist guys handing out leaflets at the weekend. They also had their wee newspaper. Their message, written on the front of the paper and on various signs, was about how to get rid of the Tories and stop austerity you should vote for Jeremy Corbyn. The fucking brass neck. These guys are seriously deluded. Corbyn backs Brexit, therefore a vote for him is a vote for Brexit, and a vote for Brexit is very much a vote for austerity. Furthermore it’s pretty much a vote for the Tories, as the majority of voters in the UK see them, and only them, as the folk who can ‘deliver’ Brexit (of course they’ll deliver only a massive shambles and financially crippling loss of trade and increase of prices). In addition you have to remember that they were doing this in Dundee, one of only two cities in Scotland to vote ‘Yes’, and a city where is, on a regular basis, shows of support for independence. Corbyn is against independence and Labour in Scotland seem to have a single policy, that being to stop independence at any and all costs, including forming alliances with the Tories. Yet the majority of Scotland voted against Brexit and the disaterous financial consequences that it will bring. We have been dragged in to it by lickspittle scum like the Labour party. Yet we’re supposed to vote for Corbyn?! So these guys are pretty much advocating a vote for the Tories. Because the point of Labour now is simply to support the Tories.

You seem to be arguing amongst yourselves about this money as if it's the be all and end all of St Mirren. As most of you have said you're a well run outfit, so relax and enjoy the upcoming pumping of Dundee

  37. Exactly how I felt, I thought it was insulting. Hibs showed much more respect than Kelty Hearts even though they'd have been well entitled to field fringe players. If you want to squeeze in an additional friendly to give some young boys a run out you play your local amateur team or someone's U20s, you don't waste the time of your peers.

  38. Where at any point have I said anything about the deal between us and Hibs?? It's reported on several media pages that Celtic are set to offer Mikey Johnston on loan as part of the push to get McGinn to Parkhead. Nothing about St mirren and hibs. As i said it more on our interest in the Celtic winger.
