  1. Final thought on today's game, sitting in the main stand is a grim experience irrespective of what's happening on the pitch.

  2. the league cup is not a diddy cup. it's not a friendly or the challenge cup it's one of the 3 major trophies we can ever win and in over 30 years going to the games ive never seen us win a major trophy. I'd give my right arm to see us win it.

  5. Anyway, enough of the mundane league shite, it’s time...THE QWC2018 FINAL! I think on the whole it’s been better than that carry on in Russia. The final was between AFJ’s charges Ellan Vannin and Salvo’s Poland. Both a credit to themselves and their countries. The final of course was out of 20 and both teams had very strong performances. In the end there was only one goal separating the sides and not many chances missed. ELLAN VANNIN 19 v 18 Poland. AFJ is the champion. Ellan Vannin are QWC2018 winners. A joyous day for the self governing whatever they are actually are. Well done and thanks to all. I’m off to lie down in a dark room, see you in 4 years.

  6. People who use the term 'jobsworth' when they've not been allowed to do something unreasonable. If somebody says to you "It's more than my job's worth" what they mean is "I don't have the authority to let you do that - if I did I would be subject to disciplinary action that might include dismissal." Hardly petty. And it's all down to Esther fucking Rantzen who had a regular feature on her TV show, with a Jobsworth of the Week award to people saying things like "You can't park your car there - the fire engines might need to get out!" In the case above I agree that four quid is a bit steep for a can of anything but I doubt the guy selling them had set the price and expecting him to go back to his boss three quid light makes you the c**t.

  9. This has been some read. I remember 2 seasons ago we lost 1-0 to Stirling Albion in the first game of this cup, then went on to have a good season. I’m not too fussed tbh, the players are still getting to know each other, as long as we’re firing from all cylinders come the ICT game I couldn’t give a flying f**k how we do in this cup.

  10. I never thought this day would come, but I hereby announce my decision to stop mocking Dundee United. This may not be a permanent arrangement, but I can't see the circumstances changing in the foreseeable future. Many years ago, when Dundee United were a top-tier club, I took great delight in their failures. As time has gone by, these opportunities for laughter have become more and more regular. As is the case with almost every good thing in the world, too much of it can eventually lead to a lessened sense of satisfaction. In short, I no longer smile when I see that Dundee United have been defeated by the likes of Arbroath. As much as it pains me to say it, I feel nothing but pity. With the exception of Celtic and the Rangers, it feels unsavoury to kick a man when he's down. Today is the day I've finally come to accept that Dundee United aren't relevant enough to make fun of anymore. With this in mind, I will now be turning my attention to St. Mirren instead. It's an easy decision. They are based in Paisley, some of their fans are irritating and - most importantly - they play in the Scottish Premiership. A final thank you to Dundee United for providing me with endless moments of happiness in recent years. But the fun is over.

  16. Personally I was embarrassed by some of our fans at the game yesterday. Heard a few booing and a shout of "fucking shite" at the final whistle. It was our first game and yes we didn't play well but with 9 players out of the starting 11 new it's going to take time for these guys to get an understanding. I also don't know why people on here are saying they train together everyday as it's game time that players start to understand how their team mates play. I'll give my assessment of the team Fasan - made a couple of good saves and tried to distribute early. Didn't do much wrong. McGhee - played well, however, it wasn't a great performance from him. Muirhead - actually thought he played well. Solid enough at the back and his passing wasn't bad. Harrison - thought the big guy looked solid and played some really good passes. Needs to watch he doesn't dive in though as he'll never recover. Brough - dreadful! Hopefully he just had a poor game but I struggle to take any positives from his performance. Paton - thought he came into the game and did a job. Does look uncomfortable on the ball at times. Sammut - thought there was a lot of promising signs from him. Tried to dictate play but I think he was unsure a lot of times what the players around him were going to do. Toe - thought he worked hard and done plenty running. Good on the ball and a very good delivery. One of the positives I took from the game. Petra - did well first half but second half he struggled to get past his man. We need to get balls over the top for him to run into or get the ball to his feet early so he has space to knock the ball down the wing and go past the full back. Lewis - dissapointed but we didn't get the ball in behind for him to run into. Almost managed a couple but the keeper was there to collect it. Mackin - looks like he needs match sharpness but he is strong and did score 2 even though they were offside. I think he looks promising. Froxy - played really well. Tried to get on the ball and make things happen. Had a decent attempt at goal as well. I'd like to see more of him in an attacking midfield position. Turner - shite. Hopefully it was an off day but I don't see what he offers and looks a waste of a loan signing to me. O'Hara - should have done better with his chances and his decision making but he did come off the bench and make an impact by creating a few chances. Overall it's early days and Hartley has a big job on his hands. The team looked disjointed but hopefully with game time they'll gel.

  17. It is far too early to write off an entire season on the basis of one game but I don't think that's what people are doing. All people are doing is pointing out weaknesses which have become appparent over the course of the last 6 games I.e we have no presence up front. These weaknesses are not going to exist for pre-season and then suddenly disappear as soon as league football begins, so it's perfectly reasonable to point them out. Analysing a performance is not knicker wetting. I also agree with the earlier points about Paton. He's a slower and older version of Tom Taiwo so I'm not really sure how he represents an upgrade.

  18. Good performance from your boys today, defended well and looked confident in possession on several occasions. I was a fan of Craig Thomson when he was at Perth so gutted for him to miss the only pen. Good luck for the season ahead.

  22. I think I posted previously that just because Scotland voted to remain within the UK in 2014, it didn’t allow the UK Government a free run on ignoring the overwhelming view of Scots to remain in the EU. We were assured that the safest way to secure continued membership was to remain within the Union. Instead we are being dragged out of it. It’s a massive game changer for me and one of the conditions that would justify a 2nd Ref. It’s impossible to argue against it. I couldn’t support the likes of Ian Blackford and the SNP leading us into Independence but that’s not to say they will continue to hold sway at Holyrood, if that day eventually arrives does it? The ‘Unionists’ who support Brexit are the ones who will ultimately be responsible for the break up of the UK. It’s baffling that most of them still can’t see that, or perhaps they just don’t give a shite. Either way, the current circus at Westminster benefits no one in Scotland, I would understand completely if a 2nd Ref returned a Yes vote JLD.

  28. Nope. A marquee signing for Real Madrid would be Mbappe. A marquee signing for Alloa might be a loanee from St Mirren. A marquee signing for Dundee might be any cnut daft enough to want to live in Dundee.

  30. I’ll make a more informed opinion on Kellerman and indeed everyone else, once I’ve seen them from July to the January 2019 window. I hold my hands up and admit I was too quick to judge Jack Ross who had an awful start, so I’m not doing it this time if anyone looks to be struggling early on, certainly no-one struggled at Rugby Park. Everyone, from Stubbs to Rice, Kellerman to King, and anyone still to arrive, should be afforded a fair go. I didn’t do it with Jack Ross last time, and I was wrong, it turned out great. In regard to an overall general opinion that seems to have come out of one game at Rugby Park - that being one of feeling encouraged by what we saw in one game. It’s a good feeling. It’s called feelgood factor... and we had it in spades when Joma Jack paraded the trophy in front of a sunny Simple Twenny Digital Twenny Wan Arena. Then someone took it away. To Sunderland, to Celtic, to the four winds. Ross let 11 go, more followed. Unknowns came in. Kids, lower league guys. Guys we never knew. Stubbs, Rice and Jackson all new. Untested, untried...no warm up after Bolton stood us up. The feelgood factor disappeared as quickly as Delle Alli does when he pulls on an England shirt. It could have all gone terribly wrong at Rugby Park. The organisation, pace, gameplan - it was all there, from what looked like a half-assembled squad in a half-baked starting line up, without Kyle Magennis. A wee bit of feelgood factor came back, why not enjoy it? Keep the heid’ folks, but fcuk it, let’s look forward now with far more enthusiasm that we might have had prior to kick off at Rugby Park.

  31. It appears we played badly yesterday and lost to a lower division side. I don’t quite get why some on here expect a positive match review or that there should be no concern whatsoever? If we win on Tuesday, I am sure the reviews will keep the unconcerned happy....

  32. Looking back to yesterday that’s one of the best performances I’ve seen from us in recent years. Wallace and Gav struggled but every other player in maroon was superb. Thomson looks a great signing already. Composed and solid throughout. McKenna for me was man of the match. Very happy that my doubts when we signed him have been proved wrong.

  33. The one thing I took from yesterdays game was thank the Lord I don't have to sit in the Main Stand every week. You genuinely never get the levels of negativity I heard yesterday in the South.

  34. I have no idea if we have a squad capable of winning the league, and I say that from the perspective of having seen every game we've played, plus a few training sessions. I simply don't have enough knowledge of what our players are capable of. Never mind the players the opposition have signed. Which is why I find it so annoying that people rush to judgement. Why not wait until the end of the first quarter of league games is over, or at least until a few have been played before we demand the guillotine and trebuchet are brought out? Depending on how old you are, you may well remember the "Stainrod is pish" sentiments expressed by members of the FSC supporters bus when Airdrie went eleven points clear at the top of our division. I was on it at the time and can well remember all the negativity about him. Then we got a draw at a fog-enshrouded Dens park and the bandwagon took off. It wasn't Airdrie who won the league that season. It's far, far too early to judge things will go this season.

  35. We started last season with a playing squad signed almost exclusively from Scotland. (Peter Grant & Joe McKee were the only exceptions. And Joe came from Carlisle, which isn't exactly far from the border). In their opening 17 league games, they won twice. Once away to Morton and once in the 17th match, when they beat QOS a day before Hogmanay. Then January arrived. Hartley brought in an influx of players from England and they won 10 of the 17 league games in the second half of the season. That statistic suggests you're talking shite. The fact you think they train six hours a day proves you're talking shite. It's actually about quarter of that, plus a gymn session in the afternoon. Like all Bairns fans, I can't say I was enthralled with the result today. But the amount of OTT hysteria I'm reading in various places beggars belief.

  39. Using the knicker wetter guide to football, it looks like ourselves, united (0-0 with Arbroath) and Morton (beat by ayr) will be fighting relegation this season. In England Liverpool will go down as they could only draw with bury and everton will win the premiership next season because they won 22-0 today....

  40. I’d tend to disagree with Sammut. I thought he looked a class act. He reads the game so naturally and is always a step ahead of everyone else. What he lacks in, obviously, is experience. He’s a sitting midfielder who will spread the play and keep the ball moving; I’m not quite sure what you expected from him? He constantly looked for the ball and never gave it away until he tired late into the second half. Everyone needs to chill the f**k out. You can’t sign a full team and expect them to click instantly. We demolished sides last season in this tournament then went onto a shambles of a season. Yes it wasn’t great today but ffs, none of the signings looked of a John Stewart/Jordan White standard. Give them time.

  41. It's a slight technicality, but they came out of the match with 1 point and Arbroath came out of the match with 2 points. I consider Arbroath to be the winners on this occasion. But you're right, they've earned a valuable point which could be crucial in the battle for 3rd place.

  42. Thompson leaves and look what happens. Here is some free neighbourly advice: Time for a protest to bring Thompson back. Next home game, as the match time clock shows 10 minutes start a chant of “we want Thompson back, say we want Thompson back”. Do this for prescisely 2 minutes then break into a roaring crescendo, making as much noise as possible. No need to thank me.
