  1. 22 days until the start of the new season - the length of time Pope Marcellus II reigned in 1555, as I'm sure everybody was just itching to say.

  2. So, first competitive game tomorrow. My thoughts before we start (and without haven seen any of the pre-season games, either in person or highlights): Only player that has left that I really wanted to keep was O'Hara. If Haber does leave, I think that'll be a shame, if only he could re-capture the form he showed in the first 6 months he was here. I believe that at least one of Mendy, Elton and Kharl will have a Kamara/Stewart-type impact this season. Kamara or Caulker will leave at the end of the summer window, the other one in January. We will sign at least two more players before the window closes, one will be another great find, one will be mince. Moussa will improve, Wighton will finally make a big impression (DAB relegating notwithstanding). Kusunga will step up big time. We will have a decent season all in all. Every single thing we do will be done in the most difficult way possible...

  3. When he gets back training it might be an idea to loan him to Dumbarton to get his match fitness up to speed. That way he gets fit and takes points off our league rivals at the same time.

  4. I'm glad Thompson is gone. Hopefully it unites the fans and the "not back until he's gone" start going to Tannadice again. I just wish Laszlo went with him. I never bought into Thompson being the devil incarnate like some did (beginning 3 and a half years ago with the sale of the Tim 2) but then I never liked him from the start, and I never bought into the Eddie love either. Stephen Thompson seemed to throw the toys out of the pram when he received a bit of criticism; the entitled attitude from someone who inherited everything from daddy. It is unfair to forget he was a successful chairman for a good while. He made some bad mistakes starting in January 2015, not sacking Jackie at the end of that season and hiring Mixu when he finally got the boot. What he always did though was back the managers. Look at all the dross Sackie and Mixu signed in 2015-16 and Laszlo in January just gone. Thompson can't be blamed for their inability to identify good footballers. He reduced the debt substantially due to the sales of homegrown players but the make up of some of those deals left a very bad taste in the mouth, particularly Sackie's cut. After taking over as chairman in 2008, in the next 7 seasons we finished: 5th, 3rd, 4th, 4th, 6th, 4th, 5th before the disaster of 2015-16. We hadn't had that kind of consistency since the late 80s/ early 90s. We won the Scottish Cup and reached 2 other finals during his tenure. However he will always be remembered for our dramatic fall from 2nd in the table to relegation in 18 months and the awful transfer deals that contributed to that collapse. Plus he is a complete twat. Glad he's gone and looking forward to hearing what the new majority shareholders have to say.

  6. This isn't aimed at anyone on here (and certainly not Granny who's gripe was with Laszlo and now he has a Season Ticket anyway) but I hope that all the keyboard supporters who proclaimed they would NEVER go back until Thompson left actually do come back. I always assume that a fairly large chunk of Facebookers and twitterers who say this stuff haven't actually been at Tannadice for years and use ST as an excuse but maybe that is the sceptic in me. I'd urge anyone who hasn't bought a Season Ticket or wasn't going to go to the games to actually go now and put their money and actions where their mouth is (or fingers if it was keyboard). I've also got some other musings on it here but that is just me trying to get clicks on my blog.

  8. Stevie Clarke was a great player at St Mirren, and was an absolute gent when I approached him for his memories of Love Street for inclusion in the book we did ‘Love Street the Final Chapter’. He was at Chelsea then, and I wrote to him explaining what the project was and if he would like to offer some stories / memories. I received a prompt reply and he gave me the phone number for Chelsea’s training ground, and told me his extension number and a good time to call when he would be on a lunch break from training. I made the phone call and got put through to his office. He joked about it being so long ago that his memory might be tested, but before we got going, he said ‘Hold on, ach, I’m looking out the window and they’re playing fives out there. Someone has booted Drogba up in the air. He doesn’t look happy. Better sort them out before it kicks off, can I e-mail you some memories!? Call me back once I sort this mob out! I called him back, he got my e-mail address and a day or two later he provided two great pages of stories for our book. Nice one.

  15. Imagine the seethe if your (one sided) most bitter inducing, hated rivals stole all your past heroes and best players. Then to top it off you have to pretend to be excited by signing English Sunday league teenagers and duds with shite tattoos. Some patter AJ min! SUM FUKIN BOI!

  17. Great auction night tonight , club raised on the night £10,145, well done to all who parted with cash tonight , massive well done to the guy who paid £2000 for the Eisenhower suite at Culzean stay , that total excludes the strip raffle money which I believe was about another £8000

  18. The amount of knickerwetting on that black & white army earlier on today, was embarrassing and hilarious at the same time. Coulson and Kpewaka were standouts tonight as were Mullen and young McPherson considering they havent played one pre season game. Exciting signings to follow. In Stubbsy we trust.

  21. I see Greg Stewart going down to league two England. Didn't do anything at Birmingham and had a rather unremarkable time at Aberdeen. Would probably not like to see him back to be honest. He was fantastic nigh on amazing for us but I think he has lost it. The friends he had at Dundee like Mcginn and Hemmings are gone and they also went to the dogs. That's proof to me just how important a squad that gets along is.

  22. I think McHugh has been pretty much covered by everyone else but I will say that he gets a rough as f**k ride considering he and Moult almost singlehandedly kept us up in 16/17.

  38. Member of SNP, leaflet dropped at independence referendum and GE. Let my membership elapse but have rejoined. I've never banged a drum outside any ambassadors house when I know it will make f**k all difference.. Like to feel any canvassing I have done has made a difference. It took years to overthrow apartheid, but the leaders of the anti-apartheid movement acknowledged that it was not a single action but multiple, concerted actions across the globe that eventually led to the downfall of that regime. People who took part in anti-apartheid demonstrations were often criticised for actions such as banging drums outside an ambassador's house. As someone who took part in such demonstrations I'm glad we ignored folk like you.

  41. Sadly it is all towns and city's in scotland that have old firm fans not just ayr .Even Aberdeen have a fair share of old firm fans .only success will bring more punters through the door .12,000 at a semi final 1200 the following week says says it all . Maybe one day we will get back to the pl .But things are no doubt improving .Full time ,players like shsnkland ,crawford, mcdaid ,rose and murdoch .certainly gives us more of a chance than a part time paul cairney and mikey donald ever did .autid
