To be honest mate its not ideal but we are going to be a very small fish in a very big pond this coming season. We don't want to be another "Brechin" and the only way to avoid that will to be make us hard to beat, hoping to get the odd goal here and there from counter attacking or from set pieces. If packing the defense and narrowing the pitch even slightly narrows the gap with Falkirk and the other 8 "#juggernaut" then so be it. If it does not work out then Goodwin might try a more expansive option but at this stage with the squad we have it would be suicidal to go toe to toe with Falkirk, Ross County, Partick, Dundee Utd, ICT and the like. As a side issue, Hartley took us through the divisions playing open attacking football but changed our set up and style once we got to the championship, realizing that we just could not compete playing that way. Anyway we will see how it goes, to be honest for us its a great league to be in this season, with our small ground its going to be more than half full every home game, hopefully with a wee bit of atmosphere, a lot more attractive proposition than the usual 400-500 hardy souls watching Stranraer, Albion Rovers and Queens Park (no disrespect to these teams but you get my drift). Hope you guys go well this season, always liked Falkirk and with Hartley there also, wish you all a successful season.24 points

Never understood people with this mindset, not every team can spend every week trying to score three goals a game. Alloa feel like their strength is sitting deep, not conceding and getting a goal on the counter, if that works what's the issue?9 points

my thoughts exactly when I saw it ladt night. must be 20ft narrower. needs different tactics than a usual away game. utilise set pieces and big guys. last night showed how tough it is to break them down on such a tight playing area even with pretty decent crisp passing on the deck Don't see what's wrong with it. A club should use anything they can to their advantage at home. Within the rules, we just need to get on with it.7 points

Alright lads, I hope you're all well. I recorded a podcast with erstwhile Ayr skipper Scott McLaughlin. We spoke with him back in 2015 but, by his own admission, he was "a bit cagey", so here's some full and frank discussion about his two spells with the club. I think you might find it of interest. Just had a beautiful moment. My Mrs tried her heart out to win my youngest a teletubbie from the claw machine on the central pier and got one yesterday. We all went down for a laugh and managed to win the whole set. Followed this up with my first ever bacon big tasty from macDs and then got the tram back to our hotel. Went to grab a night cap before heading all back to the room to hear the hotel bar erupt into a synchronous groan that was music to my ears. Priceless.4 points

No, Hartley was long gone by then. Encouraging game from an Alloa point of view last night, although I'm under no illusions how hard this season will be for us. Falkirk probably just about deserved to edge it. They were comfortable at the back and had the better chances - only 2 or 3 of those though, Parry having 2 good saves from a Dennon 1 on 1 (from a tight angle) and a Dallison header (or maybe someone else cleared that one off the line). Dallison strolled the game again (I was at the Airdrie game) and looks a class act. Big Mackin actually caused us more problems when he came on with his physical presence. The lad Allan was also a handful, but the game had opened up a bit by then. It's clear that Falkirk still lack enough of a goal threat, but that may come through the development of the team they have. A 15/20 goals a season man would help of course - but then every team could say that. I'd complain about Paton kicking the excellent Flannigan, but if he was in my side I'd have loved it. And it was very Goodwin-like. [emoji4]4 points

Be careful what you wish for guys. When Wotherspoon took over at Airdrie and set out his grand plans it was hard not to get on the bandwagon. 1 season as the worst full time side in the country and he chucked the toys out the pray and left, leaving us with days to save ourselves and come up with the cash to see us through the season. Thankfully an Airdrie minded consortium have came in and seem to have saved the day. It might also be worth noting that our supporters trust are an equal party in the consortium.4 points

I appreciate there may be some teams in the Lower reaches of the pyramid and juniors who don't pay wages but if the amateurs join the pyramid en masse at some point you are going to have teams that pay their players directly above amateur divisions. So what happens if a professional side is relegated to an amateur league? For me there should be no more labels within the pyramid. Senior, junior, amateur should all go. We're all football teams. If some clubs don't want to pay players so be it but they don't need their own leagues. Those who want to remain in their own labelled set ups should do so out with the pyramid.3 points

Though a long term aspiration rather than anything imminent, very impressed to read of Jeanfield Swifts masterplan launched earlier this year. There's a computer-generated flyby at the link: http://www.jeanfieldswifts.co.uk/news/swifts-unveil-masterplan-2098499.html3 points

If it's based on the balance of probabilities then he has not been "proven" to be anything. Continuing to confuse the terms like that just makes it easier for people to argue against it. Tonev is probably a racist and was banned for what he probably done. That should have been the end of the matter(Aside from an apology from Tonev and Celtic taking their own action on the matter). Sadly, some couldn't accept that, and something that should be long forgotten by now(As much as an incident of that nature should be forgotten...) has dragged on and turned into even more of a shitshow, with victim blaming all over the shop form Celtic fans, Aberdeen fans sticking up for their player, and rival fans who don't really care about the incident itself just happy to twist the knife and keep it running, for shits and giggles. I have no idea if he wore gloves, nor do I care if they fitted.3 points

I'm not sure you understand what a MP's job is. She's not a singer/songwriter coming up with her next album, she's there to point out the things that are wrong with her constituency. Of course she's going to highlight inequalities, if you're already aware of them then good for you, not everyone else in the UK is.3 points

Good exercise in fitness, with the players monitored throughout the game. In terms of style, I think the proof will be in the pudding, I still thought we lacked a control without Millar or even Wotherspoon in the midfield. We raced ahead because we went at Berwick but once we had that lead, I thought we were more direct than I'd have liked and than the manager is suggesting. Wary of taking too much out of it in terms of invididuals but: Liam Gordon impressive again. Talks and organises, strong in the air and good on the ball. Hope he gets a chance early on. Ali McCann isn't of an age where he'll dominate a game but I've liked what I've seen of him so far. Maturing physically as well. Not sure he's quite ready for a loan in an ideal world but you are already worrying about how much he will develop in this new reserve league. I daren't mention the SM word after a friendly against a (poor) League Two team but Tony Watt looks to have that unpredictability about him. You aren't always sure how he emerges with the ball but he does. Linked up pretty well with David McMillan for a first appearance, could have had a hat-trick and played his role in the other two early goals. For his part, McMillan again encouraged you. I think he will be fine with his back to goal and he played as a lone striker for Dundalk (seen some question his ability to do so) so all in, I think even allowing for the departure of MacLean, we look better off in the striking department than a year ago. Callum Hendry is part of that as well and looked lively. Assuming Hurst is up to standard, Hendry needs to get out on loan and play games. Aaron Comrie and Drey Wright showed a willingness to try and former a partnership down the right. Hope there will be an end product with Wright, who will look to get beyond full backs. Comrie wasn't tested defensively, which is where my main concerns with him lie and neither was Mark Russell, who looked prone to maybe taking a touch too many in dangerous areas. Going forward he looked willing but very hard to make any sort of judgement on him or Dean Lyness. Usual spate of subs from both teams in the second half (including a first look at Cammy Ballantyne at this level) but of most interest was maybe Kyle McClean. Came on in his usual role and again, didn't really stand out for me, but when McMillan went off he became more advanced and caused Berwick problems. He scored the fourth and could easily have had a hat-trick. Again, only pre-season, and he missed out on Sunday presumably through injury, but Blair Alston didn't really take an opportunity to show he should be playing centrally. The manager might be thinking along those lines but does he have the composure or defensive tenacity to play a deep central role? We can hopefully progress from our League Cup group whilst still learning a bit more about the squad over the next couple of weeks.3 points

Well he's not playing tonight, and even if it's true it's not necessarily the end of his Dundee career. You can't realistically expect someone with his complex issues to encounter absolutely no setbacks or relapses whatsoever. Send him home, sit down with him once the management return, discuss it, re-establish some rules, discipline him if warranted, and move on. McCann said he wanted to be supportive, so DFC can hardly play absolutes with Caulker while standing behind McGowan despite repeated misdemeanours.3 points
