  5. Absolutely. As a 7 year old growing up in Inverness in 1980, my uncle was sort of steering me towards the blue part of Glasgow. Then came the riot at the cup final, and I vividly remember my dad (who hates football) telling me that I could support a team if I wanted, but not any of the Auld Firm. I shrugged my shoulders and said, I was born in Falkirk, I'll support them. Then I went and looked at the league table... A couple of years later my mum phoned up the club to ask if there was such a thing as a supporters' club. She spoke to Brian Guthrie, and before you knew it we were the guests of the club for a game against Clyde, stadium tour, meet all the players, the works. The game got postponed, but I watched the lads train on the pitch (!!!) and was invited back a couple of months later and was the mascot for a game against Clydebank. It all spiralled downhill from there... Never ever ever for one second have I felt anything apart from supreme gratitude to my dad for having that talk with me. I am very sure your kids will feel the same @Tartantony

  6. My simple answer to that would be why should I have to educate them about it? I want them to go and watch football not have to learn about religion and politics.

  9. Its nice to see some inventiveness on the part of the EoSFL to try and accomodate as many clubs as possible. For years there has been an argument that the Senior clubs don't want the Juniors in the pyramid, and here they are trying to make it all work.

  10. Tom Johnstone’s legacy is going to be presiding over the demise and then the ultimate death of the Junior grade. He might and should have done so much better by engaging with the pyramid at the outset.....or engaging now, but he didn’t and even at this [too] late juncture he won’t. There’s none so blind as those who will not see.

  11. So this week, yet more businesses leaving the UK (unilever saying its not brexit but thats a good way to stop boycotts from the knuckledraggers). other businesses looking for large concessions and the UK government spending billions preparing for brexit, yet we can’t find the money to give kids hot meals in school, leave people waiting for days in hospital corridors and think its ok for people to work for free in trial shifts. Do people honestly honestly think removing the checks and balances the EU gives us and giving the tories free reign to do whatever they want. Its fucking scary that blue passports are enough to allow mutants to be happy at the absolute destruction of any decency from our government. If the SNP go for an indy ref and we’re defeated again we deserve it. f**k brexit, f**k the tories and f**k anyone who thinks this is a good move.

  12. Seriously, though. Why the f**k SHOULDN'T Killie beat Sevco? Why shouldn't the form team in the country with the manager of the year go into a game against a deflated Rangers and their youth coach and not expect to win? Sportsound mostly exists these days to provide examples of what's wrong with sports coverage in Scotland.
    3 points
  13. Aye I hate that defeatist 'they have no right to win mindset. It's clearly shared by the majority of Scottish managers given how timidly they roll over to Celtic and Sevco (I'm looking at you Derek McInnes).

  17. I actually think completely the opposite here. Defensively there’s not a lot between Watson, Muirhead and Grant. They’re all capable of putting together a decent run of games but equally having complete howlers. However because Muirhead can cover at right-back and his fantastic penalties makes him a much better option to keep.

  20. Been told there are 4 applications already in from Junior clubs, and that there are another 2 or 3 who have intimated they are applying. Then there's Bonnyrigg. Will see today if any names are being bandied about. Have seen a plan which involved a "League Cup" style pre-qualifying groups of 6/7/8 teams in each who would be "seeded" with an equal spread of strong and weak clubs, with the top 3 or 4 in each group forming a top division for the rest of the season, and the remainder forming a second division. Looked a really good idea. I don't think two divisions based on geography would provide balance, one could be stronger than the other.

  22. Had a wee look at todays race last night and I have to say it just depressed the life out me. 4 days of the finest racing with Ratings into the 160s and now today its horses with ratings in the 70s. No harm to all involved but what a come down. Take your pick here really. You have the top rated horse in Sahara Haze carrying top weight in heavy conditions. The short price favourite that is Mozo is not considered due to price and with the rest giving me absolute no spark I have went for AGENT LOUISE the rank outsider at a massive 22/1. What can I say the oldest horse in the race and lowest rated horse in the race. However fear not there is method to the madness. The horse is carrying bottom weight in heavy conditions over nearly 3 mile which has to give it a chance and it finished 3rd in this race last year carrying a stone heavier than it is today. With Ryan Day taking off another 3 pounds it can only help. If you look at previous years it tends to pull out its better form in March/April time to so fingers crossed.

  29. Being an eighteen year old Clyde fan means that your entire footballing memory consists of back-to-back relegations from the First Division, finishing below East Stirling as the worst side in the entire country and now fast approaching a decade spent stinking out the fourth tier of Scottish football. Just let that sink in. I'd be grateful of a two year ban from football under those circumstances.

  35. I can’t help but feel that Mr. Johnstone has tried to do what he felt was best for the Junior game and misjudged it so completely. There are those who would wish things to remain the same forever and those who see that everything evolves to something better. I say this with no criticism, but TJ resides firmly in the camp of the former and truly believes he’s protecting our game. Sadly, today or perhaps tomorrow but certainly sometime soon he will come to realise he’s failed to grasp the inevitability of progress. We all become dinosaurs.

  37. An early league table revelation from the Cardinal thanks to alang1993's taciturn scores. Sadly, no loquacious write-ups cos I'm steaming. Still, some lovely scores from the lads etc. WD MSU. 2nd Tynie. UL Helpma (+Edmund on QD). Kinc is in the play-offs. Peasy23+DublinMagyar+1 league. alang1993 play-off. BIK + GJ (he's been here long enough to be known by his initials damnit) doon. Ziggy = play-off. More scores. Aidan + Captain up etc. Blah fucking blah. Slippery P. 39. Again I can’t disagree with anything you’re saying MDM. None of the new clubs should expect to queue jump, but I personally wouldn’t have a problem if they did. I’m not with any club, but as I’m watching the local lads at Eyemouth, I wouldn’t want to watch what some of what I’ve seen this season happen again next season, it’s soul destroying. I’d rather Eyemouth were in a league where they can compete most weeks. What worries me is the lesser but loyal EOS clubs get swallowed up in all this, players becoming disheartened by it all and clubs leaving to go amateur. It’s exciting times for some, but not for all

  40. It's simple really, while it's a bitter pill to swallow, it effectively funds the Scottish game. I.e. tv companies want as many of these games as possible and will use it as part their marketing tools to gain as many viewers as they can. I personally have come to the end of the road with it all. My kids are now wanting to come to the football with me on a Saturday so I've decided to give up my season ticket at Celtic and will be taking up a parent and child ST at Dumbarton as of next season. I can't bare the thought of them sitting with me at CP and listening to the nonsense I need to listen to on a regular basis.

  41. That was an excellent episode, I just don't understand the hate, I think that it must be an age thing, in the way that people think that summers were longer and sunnier in their youth and that it always snowed at Christmas!!! Tonight's episode, I think would stand up against any of the previous episodes!!! I've got to say though that Winston stole the show IMO, the One Direction rant is going to go down as an all time classic scene and his class act at the end was a joy!!! If you're not enjoying, stop watching it, but I'll guarantee that in the end you'll have missed out!!!

  43. I think if folk watched that without so much as laughing then it'd be best for you to stop watching and remember it for what it was. I had more than a couple of good laughs at that. I thought Meena stole the show with her lines and there was more patter than slapstick this week. Methadone Mick was shoehorned in and was the worst thing about the episode. I don't mind a drunk character but his intelligence and current state of affairs doesn't work. Get rid. Thoroughly enjoyed that tonight.
