  1. The 250 tickets is a bribe. If you offered someone money to look more favourably in your pitch for work, you'd get the jail. Not in Scottish football though.

  2. Reasons why this is stupid: There is no evidence to suggest that having quality pro youth players playing against League 2 part-time players will aid their development. Young players with ambitions to play in the Premiership (or above) and for the national team should be playing at Championship or League 1 level at least if they're not getting into their own team. The current loan system works fine as young players get to learn alongside older players at a level suitable to them. Fans won't turn up. Rangers and Celtic fans have shown that they're not arsed about their youth teams and the challenge cup games involving these teams had pitiful attendances. I would hazard a guess that the 250 ticket guarantee wouldn't cover the drop in crowds at some clubs against these sides. The vast majority of youth teams in the challenge cup were eliminated in the first round unless they were playing HL/LL clubs. If they were seriously doing this to improve the national team, why not put an SFA youth select in the league instead of two club sides who have no guarantee of playing Scottish eligible players? The clubs have been parachuted into L2 instead of the LL which is incredibly unfair on clubs in this league who have ambitions of playing league football. They are also apparently immune to relegation meaning the third bottom club in the league could now go down. The players can only move between colt and senior sides during transfer windows. The next Kieran Tierney could miss out on their chance to break into the first team because they're stuck playing in League 2 until the end of the season. If they just loaned players to a lower league side suitable to their level then they could recall them if they need them. At best, this is a lazy attempt to copy Germany and Spain. They have B teams in lower leagues so obviously this is the main reason why they are successful. At worst, this is being done to pander to two sides in order to aid their failing youth set ups and give the SPFL a safety net if they finally f*ck off to England.

  4. Missed the first half of the Hearts game. She insists on going out in the car at the height of the snowfall. Phone call 5 minutes later, "I'm stuck "! I walk half a mile, dig, push, then eventually get it out and moving. Head home, but get stuck behind another daft bint who can't get up a slight incline. Probably because she is in 1st gear and flooring the accelerator, anyway I join the existing efforts to get her moving, successfully eventually. Back in the car and she explained the other driver was her cousin, "isn't that a coincidence"? Yes it is. Two members of the same family, who are shite drivers, ignore advice and get stuck within yards of each other, bringing the fùcking road to a standstill for half an hour is indeed a coincidence.

  6. Celtic used Airdrie for years before the Astro went down. They got bumped in favour of Rangers for a year, who then failed to deliver on various conditions, probably paying for it. Quelle suprise! Miraculously Celtic went back after that. Games were usually during the day midweek, but I think it was £2 to get in. It was a mixture of scouts and mammals and daddies that were there. The supporters have no interest in youth development or how it is achieved. They understand two things winning trophies and beating each other, nothing else matters. Eta I meant to write mammies, but mammals probably reflects them better.

  12. I wonder how Celtic & Rangers* would feel if Manchester Utd, City, Liverpool, Chelsea et al entered Colt teams in the SPFL Premiership?

  13. Ross County won last year's SPFL Development League and are part of a great Highland academy. Hamilton Accies were second. I presume those are the two under consideration to add to L2. No? Celtic were third and Rangers were sixth, but they're not even in it this year, resigning to fanny about playing big foreign clubs. A real commitment to Scottish youth football, there. Celtic and Rangers Development League and Scottish Youth Cup matches are generally played behind closed doors, with tickets limited to friends and family, such is the inherent scummery of their supporters. What kind of a country has to have its youth cup final played in an empty stadium because of a history of violence? This is a shite idea on every level and any L2 club that votes for this should be boycotted.

  16. There are currently rules preventing 'B' teams moving from the bottom level of the pyramid (tier 6 EOSL/SOSL) into tier 5 (LL). Stirling Uni has such a team in EOSL which is a bit of a historical quirk from when LL began... Annan and Stranraer put such teams into SOSL this season. It's not really the same thing though... as well as being ineligible for promotion, it's the bottom level; both leagues have vacancies, so they aren't keeping anyone else down or out; they use their main stadiums or in Stirling Uni's case actually have their very own ground; and they are basically using young local amateur players - not full-time professionals recruited from across the globe. Even then it's far from universally popular. However this wouldn't stop SPFL voting to alter its own rules in various ways and adding OF 'B' teams to SPFL2 (or above). That said it would require 11-1, 17-22 and 32-10 majority votes of Premiership, Premiership+Championship and all SPFL clubs. Of course it would not only be a giant slap-in-the-face for clubs and fans in the lower SPFL levels, forced to compete with glorified but extravagantly resourced youth teams; it would also be a giant slap-in-the-face for clubs and fans in the pyramid, who are investing in licensing and striving for promotion. On the basis not only of anecdote, fans forums and social media, but also various polls going back many years - the idea seems to be almost universally abhorred by fans outwith the big clubs.

  20. Tickets they printed for a league play off in the season Celtic went to Seville and there was a possibility both teams could finish with identical pts, goals etc. Don’t think anyone knew of these plans but what a game that would’ve been. An old mate found a stack of them in a garage he was clearing out.

  26. I remember feeling oddly positive after Ayr skelped us in November, it signalled definite change in the way Smith approached future games (McKay has played every game since, Robertson has played in midfield, Vaughan was dropped back, etc). Sadly I can’t see it this time. Graeme Smith has now cost us goals which put us behind away from home on three occasions - Albion, Airdrie, Stranraer. We nabbed a totally undeserved point at Airdrie but in all three matches we’ve had plenty time to recover the situation yet never really looked like it. Obviously that’s an issue bigger than the goalkeeper. The team haven’t responded at all to challenges on the road. From ten away games, four wins is dreadful. In all four we scored the first goal. In our three defeats on the road, we lost the first goal each time. We have to approach away matches differently. No getting away from it. And yes, quite obviously an immediate change for next week is the goalkeeper...

  33. Its amazing you still have some people on here trying to justify this and the general waste of what should have been a bonus windfall for all. Instead of regulating the NS correctly and properly investing the wealth aka Norway, Westminster tories both blue and later red, used our resource, to fund tax cuts for the wealthy and pay the huge rise in dole claims resulting from the brutal 80's economic restructuring. Oh and London has had lots of new shiny capital infrastrucure projects in the last 30 years. Funny that. Thankfully despite westminster and their apologists doing their best to cover up the fact......there will still be plenty left for us to manage correctly......if we become independent in the forseeable.

  36. One of the worst aspects of Social Media are scheme rats who set out to trash a business's reputation because the staff committed some utterly miniscule infraction, or had the temerity to ask them to keep their brattish c**t turd under some sort of control, instead of charging about the place, annoying everyone just wanting a quiet meal. c***s.

  39. I was planning to cut through any negativity this morning with a good news story about the sign now conveying accurate information about our next home match. On closer inspection however, it appears that this is not the case. It actually says that our next home match is against Brechin on 27th January 20178. Now while having to wait over 18,000 years for our next trip to Palmy might breed some impatience, it should at least mean that Marshall and Jacobs will have recovered from their current injuries.

  40. Every couple of years some self-publicist will pop up in the papers and outline their ambitions for the Thirds' resurrection, but so far it's invariably come to nothing. It's been a full 50 years since they folded and most of their former support are now either very old or very dead - it's difficult to see where new support would come from as the area they formerly drew it from is now demographically very different. The biggest drawback is that virtually every proposal seems to involve the regeneration of the crumbling ruin that is Cathkin Park - it's almost certainly too far gone now to bring back to code...the council certainly aren't going to sink the amount of cash that would be required to do so in an area already well-served by sports facilities into what effectively is a few people's ego trip. With the best will in the world, the Greater Glasgow's pretty low on the amateur pecking order...any team going straight from that environment to a semi-professional one would almost certainly find themselves well out of their depth - I imagine any amateur side with ambitions of progressing further would want to spend a couple of years in one of the higher-rated ammy leagues first.
