  1. For many reasons. On a personal level, it's allowed to me to live and work in both Italy and Sweden which has enriched me as a person and, I would like to think, allowed me to contribute positively to society there and also promote Scotland whilst I was there - loads of people I befriended and met have visited Scotland having heard me talk about it when I was there. I think we are a more tolerant, respectful society due to free movement of people - as a primary teacher in London, I have (I think) 12/13 different nationalities in my class and I think we will see the benefits of this in years to come as children who have grown up in this environment develop into adults who have routinely grown up respecting and embracing other cultures and see it as the norm to grown up here but with a knowledge of other cultures. Economically, immigration is a benefit too and many sectors need immigrants to flourish. Indeed, it's incredible the under reporting of the difficulties in English education at the moment with regards to teacher recruitment and retention - my school (an attractive, outstanding school) wouldn't be able to function without immigrant workers. Many other sectors are the same. Finally, it offers incredible benefits in terms of travel an understanding of the world around us. Hopefully the generation who have grown up alongside children from other cultures will embrace this and prove to be more tolerant than the generation who embrace farage style rhetoric and worry about hearing foreign accents on the train.

  5. Alloa Half Marathon for me this morning. Conditions were far from easy with a 5 mile straight run into the win, but for once I was actually sensible with pacing and kept enough in the tank to take the 11th mile hill comfortably and push on for the last two miles. 1:32:29 which is 21 seconds quicker than the same course last year. Happy with that.

  6. No, "he" isn't lucky. He worked like f**k from a working class beginning (I went to school in the raploch) to acquire that skill set. It's interesting that instead of openly debating the point as to free movement, you immediately get defensive behind straw man arguments. You mention those "left behind" - please build a creditable and persuasive argument as to the circumstances of those who are left behind within the context of the EU and an independent Scotland and detail to me as to why a brexit rUK would benefit them. Also, when you are at it, define exactly who the "left behind" are. Do they only include indigenous citizens or can an immigrant be described as someone left behind by globalisation? Your second straw man about foreign voices is even flimsier - it seems like you are fuelled by a distrust and aversion to those who are different and are angry about it - it seems that by attempting to paint it as deliberate simplification (I'm pretty sure you know it isn't but are painting it as such for personal reasons) is to play into the deliberately simple argument utilised by the leave campaign of us against the establishment that never really existed. It's a deliberate simplification of nuanced, political discussion that you are attempting to exploit by looking like an "Everyman" speaker - straight from the farage playbook. Why are you so against those who want to come here and contribute to society?

  7. I too did Alloa half marathon today for what was the first time I had run anything over 8 miles. I got caught in the excitement at the start and went off way too quick, meaning I struggled from the 8th mile onwards. Still managed a time of 1.52.22 which I was chuffed with. Rubbed half my nipples off though, I didn't realise that was an issue!

  9. Hardcore rugby fans. I like Rugby and watch Scotland games and the odd Warriors game and get quite into it, but proper hardcore rugby fans are completely obsessed with football and it's cringey in the extreme. Instead of just focusing on their sport and enjoying it, they are constantly posting photos of a rugby player with a cut head alongside a photo of Ronaldo feigning injury as if it makes Rugby a better sport. It's basically like the little kid trying to show it's as good as it's bigger, more popular brother all the time rather than just getting on with their own stuff.

  11. Also done Alloa. The long straight into the wind was hell and I didn't know the hill was coming. Thankfully I had enough good splits in the first 8 miles and I managed a 2 min half pb. 93.29.

  12. Got round in 1.55 which I was happy with as aiming for under 2 hours. My first half marathon, so was on for a PB anyway! I've seen on facebook a few complaints of lack of water for runners towards the back.

  18. I would genuinely rather start again in League Two if it meant getting rid of the absolute frauds who are in charge of our team. The clubs rotten from top to bottom and it doesn't look like changing. For all the shite we've been through, the homeless years, players going on strike, Colin Miller as Manager, I've never felt this despondent with the club. Completely fed up with Accies and doubt I'll feel any different soon as the people in charge seem to be quite happy that the club is in free fall. Les Gray and all the other crooks who run our club can shove their fucking ethos right up their arses.

  28. I know something of the time, effort and expertise that you're putting in on the supporters' behalf and we should be and indeed are, very grateful for that. When it appeared that the Rock site was valuable as a site for housing, then the potential move made greater sense. The way I saw it then was that an owner would, sooner or later, realise that value. With the current site being worth little, one has then to look at alternatives. I can see no sense in spending £13.5 million* on a stadium for a club like ours, especially not when a small fraction of that money would pull the current stadium up to spec again. Part of the problem is so basic in that the stand could do with a good clean! My suggestion above would see the community benefit, Brabco make more on their investment and the Rock Stadium brought up to spec, perhaps even to include improved function or conference facilities; perhaps also to increase capacity. Surely a win-win? (* around 20 years of our entire current turnover)

  29. As a trust we are pressing for comparable business plans for DFC both relocating and staying. The issue is what is in the best interests of the club moving forward: what will make for sustainability and the best chance of success in the future? That has to be judged in solid business terms, involving in-depth local knowledge, and we want to be able to see what is going on and contribute ideas and possibilities -- including what gets discussed here. I'm not necessary going to get involved in discussing even detail on PnB (I haven't got time, and I'm not always the best person to comment!).... But what you say *is* noticed. I also know that, while we may not see eye-to-eye on absolutely everything, the club chairman and other non-Brabco directors are committed to the flourishing of DFC, as we are. Regarding Brabco, now on the threshold of ending their offshore arrangement we are told, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. They want a return on their investment. No problem with that -- provided that it happens in a way that supports rather than undermines the club moving forward. How will we know if that is the case? By getting to see the business modelling in detail, on reasonable terms of commercial confidentiality (but no gagging of the Sonstrust and the fans). That's what we're talking about at the moment...

  30. The Sonstrust (which is, or can be YOU) has the clear aim of buying into the club long term. We are willing to work in genuine partnership with the current owners or any other potential investors on the right terms. That is, terms that secure the safety and flourishing of DFC as a viable, community club. We're not yet in a position yet to contemplate full fan ownership, and that may or may not be the right model for us, but we *are* moving into a position to significantly increase our stakeholding and influence, building on what has already been achieved recently (not least the success is persuading Brabco to bring their operations onshore - the fulfilment of which promise we will monitor very carefully). We are talking informally to potential investors who might be prepared to join us in that, of course. Anne Budge at Hearts has shown how private investors who really care about a team can work with fans to the long term good of those who really love their clubs and want them run to benefit supporters and the community. That's the kind of partnership model that, wearing my hat as the chair of the Scottish Football Supporters Association (http://scottishfsa.org/reclaimthegame/), as well as being an officer of the Sonstrust and our negotiator with the DFC owners, I'm really wanting to help build. In other words, the days of fans looking for "magical investors", who will somehow take over the from a current lot we don't like and put it all right, should be put firmly into the past. That's one of the things that's repeatedly gone wrong in football. The answer to the question of 'what next?' should be *us*, working with whoever can help our club be truly sustainable and grow its base of commitment and support. Football clubs at our level are small businesses which *can* be run sustainably and well, involving fans and other investors of competence and goodwill. They're not, and never should be, cash-cows that will make someone rich. People who think they can make a mint out of a small football club are dangerous.

  41. It's actually getting funny now. It's the equivalent of a guy who's been caught baws-deep in his secretary trying to convince himself he's not going to get taken to the cleaners in the divorce settlement. In the interim, he's been telling all and sundry that his soon to be ex was a fat cow that had it coming, all the while thinking she'll go easy on him in court, 'cos she secretly wants him back so much. Post-divorce, he's also looking forward to reconnecting with all his old pals in bachelor heaven 2.0, but doesn't know they all moved on years ago and actually think he's a bit of a dick.

  43. First and foremost I do not believe the economic case for independence stands up to the slightest scrutiny. The SNP's attempts at a financial plan for independence last time were laughable and I'm pretty sure by son's P2 class could have come up with something about as worthwhile. I appreciate the sentiment that a post independence Scotland may not be run by the SNP (in practice I suspect it would be for many years to come) but no matter who is in charge you can only work with the tools you have. I think we'll lose a lot of financial sector jobs and it will create labour market problems both with rUk and with Europe, though the latter is probably going to happen anyway post Brexit (which I was also against). I think pensions will be a problem with the main pension funds relocating to England (Standard Life) and the costs of that will inevitably be borne by investors one way or another. From a personal point of view I don't have a problem being "British". I'm Scottish but I don't think that's incompatible. I have as much or more in common with English people as I do with the rest of Scotland. That may partly be a geographic thing being as we're right on the Border but I don't see the governing of the UK by a UK parliament as being any sort of problem. I think the Scottish parliament is an unnecessary layer of bureaucracy that just costs us all a fortune. I'd merrily disband it tomorrow if it were up to me.
