  1. The fact that you'd want to see the country fail in that scenario sums you up tbh. Not even the least bit surprised either.

  3. There's not really any need to manufacture grievances. Scotland within the UK had far less control and autonomy than the UK had within the EU, and yet English and Welsh separatists rallied enough to vote on leaving it. If pointing out how much the UK inhibits Scotland's democracy is "grievance", then support of the union is abject servility and a willingness to countenance anything.

  11. Realised last week I had only played 6 medals all season and hadn't played since 6 August. Made the effort to play last Wed, Sat and Wed. Finished in the money last Wed in windy conditions. Then on Saturday hit the ball like a champ but couldn't putt to save myself - 9 greens in regulation and 6 birdie chances from 10ft and in all squandered. Only managed a -0.2 down to 6.6 but should have been far better. Wednesday was a different story. Everything seemed to come together as I shot a 70-7=63 (CSS:70) so that's me down to 5.3. Having been stuck on 7 the last few years it's quite fitting that I played well and still didn't get to 6. Delighted to finish the season on a high. Down 1.7 for the year with 7 of my 9 medals being buffer or better. Regretting not playing more this season...

  20. I've got a proper man love for Dobbie and its for an absolutely brilliant reason, the first football song I ever learned was "when the ball hit the net like a low flying jet.....its Stephen Dobbie" I was at the the cup game over Old **** and I'll never forget that getting belted out. He also spells stephen the correct way so he's obviously an all round top Lad. Another pointless story from me ETA: spelt Dobbie Sobbie

  21. Indeed - Scotland voted in 2014 democratically to remain a region of an EU member state, with all that that entailed. Scotland more recently democratically elected a devolved government with a manifesto commitment to reopening the question of independence if its people voted to retain EU citizenship, rights and privileges and the rest of the UK decided that it should cease to be a member state of the world's largest trading block. That's what happened. And here we are.

  23. I am slightly. It's not so much I would be agitating for it no matter what but it's a guess based on this time next year knowing in more detail what Brexit looks like, based on a March triggering of Art50, and needing to have this concluded whilst still in EU. For myself I'm no longer in the "call it when we can win it" camp. If Scotland is removed from the EU and single market against the will of the Scottish people then the SNP have a mandate to call a referendum and have an obligation to call one. If that's a loss and it's off the cards for 20 years so be it but you don't get anywhere in life waiting for the perfect conditions to do things.

  33. The problem that politicians on the remain side had was that many of the problems that Leave held up as a reason for Brexit were actually down to Westminster policies They were unlikely to say "actually, it's our fault that we have a housing crisis, or the NHS is overstretched, or that there are very few job prospects in former heavy industry regions," so the leave side could blame everything on the EU without being countered.

  34. As an add on to my earlier post, I ensured through abuse that none of my kids supported OF teams. This involved booting them up the backside, smashing a mug, taking a top back to the shop for a refund as an alternative to just burning it, and various other acts of discipline. It worked though, and I'd do it again, childline or no.

  35. Naturally. The way Hibs fans go on, you would think Easter Road was akin to La Bombonera every fortnight. The reality of the Dundee United game was on TV for all to see, you know.

  36. A former colleague, who had been a dons fan, switched in his mid-teens to c****c because he was "fed-up watching them lose". One Saturday evening, he came in without a coat in the depths of winter to show off his garish new away top and gloat about the doing Celtic had given us that day (I think this was during the Ebbe period). Fortunately, he had to hang up his top and change into his KP jacket, allowing me to soak it thoroughly and hang it neatly on a hanger in the walk in freezer until he finished, 5-6 hours later. He brought it through to the bar, in actual tears, and it was rigid. The moral of the story is: f**k Celtic.

  43. Although living in Paisley in the early 70's I was a celtic fan as everyone at school was. About 1976 a neighbour volunteered to take me to St Mirren games home and and away and when we were promoted under Fergie I chose to stick with Saints. My dad had been a Saints fan but was long dead by the time I took interest in football hence my initial dubious choice.

  44. Not aimed at a particular journalist, or even just in Scotland, but the term 'just about' is used incorrectly far too often. For me, 'just about' means it doesn't quite happen, but is often used when something 'just about' doesn't happen, when in fact it has. EG Kenny Mcleans penalty at Dens a few weeks back - "Mclean can seal victory for Aberdeen here... And he just about does!" No, he definitely did, the ball went in. I only started noticing it a few weeks ago and now it really gets on my tits.
