  1. He strikes me as being #sum #boi. A nice dig at the press and the PL in general there, basically asking 'on what planet is the PL a better place to develop my game than the Bundesliga?'

  2. all this H word stuff is edging away from the core BRALT discussion..... (although I suppose the BRALT mutated in many bizarre ways over the years) Bottom line is .... Old Rangers cheated (fact) and died (fact) Blue Noses everywhere pretend this was not so and concoct all sort sophistry to deny the truth. The current club is now in it's 5th season. History of the old club stopped in 2012. The soonest they can achieve this 55th title will be at the end of the 2071/72 season. I spent 10 years at least spending a fair chunk of my disposable income to watch a rigged sport. (with that sport's governing authorities connivance) All their titles and cups won in the EBT seasons should be declared void. Basics really......

  3. You have no idea what you are talking about. Doctors have never demanded a pay rise, but were faced with the threat of around a 30% pay cut. "Junior" doctor entails anyone who is not a consultant or GP, this includes many people in their late 30s and 40s with kids and mortgages. When I started out, I was working around 93 hour weeks and 12 days in a row every 3-4 weeks. Contracts have been slightly altered in Scotland in recent years following the death of an FY1 doctor driving home after night shift. I'm not sure why exhaustion is seen by some as a badge of honour, when it reduces performance at work. You seem to wish for doctors never to have a weekend off. I personally have never worked with a single doctor practicing in a hospital specialty who does not do night-time or weekend work. What you need to understand is the difference between emergency work and elective work. PCI for an ST-elevation MI will happen at any time of the day or night. But just because you can do a simple hernia operation at 3AM on a Sunday morning doesn't mean it's the right thing to, as there is plenty of evidence to suggest this approach leads to higher complication rates. "Waiting list initiative" clinics and operating lists do occur outwith Monday - Friday 9-5, if they want services like this expanded that's fine, but this requires more staffing for which no plans have been made to provide. Which is what the BMA has been saying all along. Very, very few doctors in this country are living in million pound homes and driving Ferraris - the lawyers/accountants/Old Firm footballers are. While SAAS pays tuition fees for Scottish students at Scottish Universities, many other students pay up to £9000 a year in tuition for 5 years of medical school (6 with an intercalated BSc). However, I have paid around £12,000 since qualifying in post-graduate exams and courses, for a career progression that is far from certain in the current climate of higher medical training. So I don't understand the argument for forcing qualified doctors to work for the NHS. I'm not sure what your justification is for cutting the pay of one of the best educated workforces in the country.

  6. This is correct. A many-paged essay could be written on the subject, but basically the "Modernising Medical Careers" (MMC) shake-up in 2005 created a Year Zero in medical training that was designed to create a cheap specialty-trained workforce in a short space of time. For a surgical training job in Aberdeen, for example, a doctor now travels to London or Leeds for an 1-2 day per year exam-like interview process where around 1000 candidates are put into a nationwide pot for around 300 places. This has caused a huge bottle-neck in entry to higher specialty training ("ST3" entry) which has led to gradual underfilling of rotas and departments. As there is no refernence process, candidates are largely scored on non-clinical work which they have done, such as audit and research, and it is highly dubious whether forcing this kind of activity actually created a better-skilled, safer, higher-quality workforce.

  7. Seems like a top boi. Hard not to get overexcited really, when you think of all the false dawns we've had with wonderkids, this guy seems like he could be the real deal. It's amazing how few British players try their luck abroad. His comments about Chelsea and the likes there are spot on, it's an absolute no brainer

  8. I don't know. To me, brought up in a place where 'What school did you go to' and 'who's your faither?' are thankfully questions that don't get asked when you first meet somebody, the term h*n has always been synonymous with Rangers fans. Nothing more nothing less and certainly nothing sectarian. It's west coast poison that has attempted to skew the word.

  10. ...And you join us for the qualifying round for the Charles Ingram Memorial P+B Cup, scheduled take place throughout the month of October and televised live on Sky Sports 1. Here is the draw... I'll post the quiz on Friday lunchtime (once I find a good Northern hemisphere one). You have from Friday lunchtime till Monday lunchtime to PM your score (plus any comments) and then I'll post the results on Monday afternoon. Please note that currently many teams get a bye. However, any latecomers before Friday will then be assigned to the first team to get a bye in the list. (Not sure if this is clear, but it makes sense in my head). @Zen Archer vs @Ross. @LongTimeLurker vs @die hard doonhamer @alang1993 vs @Richie95 @Leeds Saint vs 1st newcomer / bye @Cardinal Richelieu vs 2nd newcomer / bye @Bully Wee Villa vs 3rd newcomer / bye Peasy23 vs newcomer / bye Swarley vs newcomer / bye G_Man1985 vs newcomer / bye Supermik vs newcomer / bye The_Kincardine vs newcomer / bye Jagfox99 vs newcomer / bye welshbairn vs newcomer / bye Jacksgranda vs newcomer / bye Dayman vs newcomer / bye WhiteRoseKillie vs newcomer / bye eckthearab vs newcomer / bye Edmund vs newcomer / bye Dee_62 vs newcomer / bye

  12. And there we have it, as predicted. The NHS is operational 7 days a week, in case you haven't noticed. Don't see many hospitals shut on a Sunday. Now you're doling out the emotive pish right left and centre, invoking poor benighted patients sacrificed at the altar of doctors getting hammered at the weekend. Junior doctors have every right to time off like any other employee, if the Westminster government want to provide the same levels of service across the full week they should resource it properly, not try to bully and cajole NHS staff into working longer hours or to take away weekend rates of pay they've enjoyed for years. Routine procedures were cancelled during the strike, not life-saving care, so patient safety wasn't compromised. But you know that and are just railing at them because they have better terms and conditions than you do, as you've admitted yourself. Don't tell me what I do or don't realise. Ahem. Twice now you've accused me of being 'prejudiced' for daring to have an opinion other than yours. I raised the sodding foreign aid budget but of course I'm too scared to discuss it. What it is or isn't spent on actually isn't at issue here, it's the MORONIC insistence of folk like you that all this money is pissed away and therefore shouldn't be spent rather than attempting to redirect it to better ends. Whilst at the very same fucking time insisting you want foreign doctors out of the NHS (the very same doctors who are a bit suspect in quality terms apparently) to benefit these same third world countries. I'm pointing out how your concern for international development rings false. And indeed the mask has slipped already. What's with all this 'frightened of your own shadow' and 'limp wristed' pish? You sound like a real internet hard man. Again bringing out this ridiculous prejudice nonsense. Not everyone except me is a xenophobe, only those like you who out themselves as such. I don't see foreigners as a special privileged group, or as 'gods', I just see them as no better or worse than British workers. I'm not claiming they're perfect, just not inferior, as you seem to be claiming. You really are one of the worst posters on this forum. You seem a petty minded, jealous, spiteful, xenophobic would-be bully that likes to dole out the insults but can't take them back, and hilariously claims everyone who doesn't agree with you is 'prejudiced'.

  15. It's tremendously funny seeing wee Ruthie strut around trying to convince everyone that they're cutting the SNP's support despite the only show in town increasing its vote from 2011, and the tories only truly benefitting from the utterly hilarious implosion of the Labour North British branch office. These are good times for the SNP despite the laughable media coverage attempts to show otherwise. The Tories have peaked, Labour are absolutely rooked, and almost no one gives a single solitary f**k about the Lib Dems. What a time to be alive.

  36. Lots more baby doctors is good, but won't solve the massive gaps in specialisms which were opened due to the slashing of training places further up the line. It will take generations of recruiting from the world of medicine to plug those gaps*, even with the numbers of fresh graduates proposed. Moving on a grade, finding there are no places in the UK but there are in Australia where it's hot and birds wear f**k all, was going on for ages even before the contract shenanigans drove yet more of our own plucky British doctors away Even more worrying and almost unbelievable is the "name and shame" of companies that employ foreign workers. What the actual f**k is that? Also, and this seems like a minor point in the face of such arrant racism and the clear attempt on the life of the NHS, is that the NHS sharing international expertise has been enormously beneficial to us as a nation, to our medics, to global medicine in general, to the foreign medics that have come here to practice and to the countries the vast majority of them return to. Making that exchange of talent and best practice harder is fucking bananas. *And there will always be gaps, because not many folk, including freaks of nature like Doctors want to be an ass-doctor in Wick.

  37. Don't think you can ever blame a manager for leaving a part-time job for full-time in these circumstances. A manager's shelf life is so short these day, if Alloa had slipped down and finished 3rd or 4th like I think you'd have done he would have been yesterday's news by the end of the season. Even if he'd finished 1st or 2nd St Mirren is about as good a job as he could hope to get, don't really see what he'd have gained by staying. If you're a manager you've got to cash in when you can because one poor run of form and you'll be punted never to be heard of again.

  38. Aye around 37,000 doctors in the NHS (in England alone) have poor language skills and are poorly trained. Sure that argument holds up to scrutiny. If they were incompetent or unable to communicate with patients they wouldn't have been hired in the first place. Not buying this ridiculous concern for the state of third world healthcare that Jeremy Hunt and his acolytes have suddenly discovered either. It's not that your average Daily Mail reader doesn't like dealing with a doctor with a foreign accent but that they actually are deeply worried about healthcare in the Philippines and Pakistan. Implausible. An argument can certainly be made for ensuring newly trained doctors spend a period working for the NHS, but that alone won't either replace the numbers of foreign doctors, the around 10% of doctors about to retire or fill the 10% of positions within the NHS in England that are actually already vacant. Basically increasing the number of trainees is a bit of a no-brainer; there ought to have been no question this was required. The problem they have is that this was required just to stay still in terms of staffing, without evening considering the new drive for 'self-sufficiency'. Banning them from striking is just right-wing drivel. Let's face it the sort of people who advocate that wouldn't let anyone strike if they had their way. Usually on the basis that they have a shite job with shite terms and conditions so everybody else should get as bad a deal as them. Think it's time some folk faced up to the fact that the NHS in England is a shambles. A shambles that a purge of foreign doctors in the name of some kind of nativist autarky isn't going to help.

  43. Here's the latest league table. @supermik ... if you post a score from Monday's quiz, you might avoid another black star against your name. Here's the plan for the cup ... any improvements or suggestions welcome! (updated for welshbairn's honesty and the latecomers) Trophy Cabinet M Tu W Th F TOTAL Edmund ★ 7 7 14 Cardinal Richelieu 6 6 12 eckthearab ★ 5 7 12 Leeds Saint ★ 7 4 11 WhiteRoseKillie ★ 6 5 11 Zen Archer 5 6 11 Bully Wee Villa 5 5 10 LongTimeLurker 5 5 10 Swarley 5 4 9 alang1993 ★ 4 5 9 Jacksgranda 4 5 9 welshbairn 5 3 8 Jagfox99 6 2 8 The_Kincardine 5 3 8 G_Man1985 ★★ 2 5 7 Peasy23 3 3 6 Supermik ★ 5 5 Richie95 4 4 Dee_62 2 2 4 die hard doonhamer 1 2 3 Dayman 3 3 Ross. 0 The cup will run over a month, starting in October. It'll take place over the weekends, so as not to distract us from league duties. I'll make the draw on say, Friday morning, and I'll post a link to an online quiz (NOT Australian!) for people to do. Contestants will PM me their scores (rather than just posting them) to build up a bit of excitement, and I'll post the results on Monday. In the event of a tie, I'll post a penalty-shootout tiebreaker (e.g. population of Greenland) and the closest from each draw will go through to the next round. If you fail to send your score by Monday morning, you forfeit the match. If both teams in a match fail to post a score the whole thing's fucked. I realise there's only 4 weekends in a month, but once we get to the business end, we can play them midweek as well. We've got around 20 people, so it means we'll have to have a preliminary round - probably for the people who aren't regulars or anyone else who wants to take part. Once the 1st round proper kicks in, we could make the thing seeded (i.e. 1st or 2nd placed winners of the league are kept apart). Or alternatively we could make it a free-for-all. If this is all okay, I'll make the withdraw midweek. If you're in the league table, don't bother telling me if you want in .. only if you're not wanting in. If you're not in the league but want to do the cup, post a message. The winner will get the much-sought after trophy I promised but never delivered for the league.
