  4. The tournament has been a tremendous success so far. The groups certainly haven't gone as expected, with the holders going out before the last group games and teams like Dundee and Kilmarnock struggling in what should have been easy groups for them. Whilst I'm not normally a fan of seedlings, they have undoubtedly helped maintain an interest in all of the games, with every club striving to achieve at least a strong goal difference to either see them through or ensure they go through as a seeded team. I also thought the penalty shoot-out was a bit cringey and mental at first, but again it's worked an absolute treat. I'd much rather spend my time and money on the League Cup than meaningless, dross friendlies. Well done to those in charge for once

  8. Your a fucking tit if you don't think going into this weekend with all sorts of permutations around winning groups, seeding and best placed runners up isn't more interesting than Clyde putting east fife out on penalties on a Tuesday night.

  11. Football fans are football fans ; Im a football fan and not a " junior fan" just as i wouldn't class ️myself as a " senior fan " if I supported a senior club. Dont see why junior clubs can think that our level of football can take the moral high ground over anyone or anything and it's a crazy notion. If if I was raised in paisley I would be a St mirren fan, greenock then I would be a Morton fan , methil then it would be east Fife for me , I wasn't and I was raised in Beith so it was Beith juniors for me 100%, im delighted that this is the club I support but junior football is way behind senior football in terms of organisation and infrastructure , people have a romantic notion of it being great , perfect & cosey, the reality is that it's as flawed as any level of football , we dont even have anything that resembles a fixture card and the most important part of the league campaign is sandwiched into the last few weeks of the season via 4 games per week to accomodate a cup that means very little to anyone .

  12. I don't think we'll set up defensively. Nothing to lose and we have a lot of attacking midfielders. We'll come to score goals. Cracking game of football tonight, first half especially which was end to end with four well taken goals and some competitive tackling. We defended well second half and looked dangerous when we got forward. Flannigan was the best player on the park IMO. Clever, timely substitutions from Jack Ross with Holmer and Longworth adding composure and experience to turn the game.

  16. So many excuses for Strachan's failure flying around on here. He is just as much to blame, if not more than the players. Tactically he's utter crap. Always has been and always will be! What he is is a good man manager and will get his favourite players feeling great. Sadly some of his favourite players aren't good enough to be starting or getting a place in the squad. And he is loyal to some utter garbage! His squad choices have me scratching my head in a state of confusion most of the time. His tactics and team selections can be borderline mental! Ireland away was his fault, as they were there for the taking, but his selection was crazy. Georgia away was also shocking by him. Scott Brown has been garbage for a while now, yet he refuses to drop him for a FAR better James McArthur. He called an inured Charlie Mulgrew into the squad, totally wasting a spot in the 23 man squad just so Mulgrew could "be around the lads." He gave more international caps to a totally brutal James Forrest, when Ross McCormack, Matt Phillips etc couldn't even get a look in. He's got the best pool of players the national team has had in years, yet he gets it all wrong on most squad selections. I will always support the team, and I hope Strachan succeeds this time around. But for me, the jury is still out. And quite rightly so. 4th in a group where all we had to do was finish 3rd is brutal.

  17. I wish our bod had clicked that he was hopeless as quickly as Fleetwoods have. Shouldve never got the job in the first place and then it was criminal giving him again once we'd been relegated without so much as a whimper.

  18. I'm pretty sure that all clubs unanimously agreed the play off structure back in 2013. As a club we shouldn't be bleating about how hard done by we've been the past few years when we helped put the rules in place in the first place! The right thing to do is to assemble a squad strong enough to cope with the rules, not bitch about them.

  19. Back in our student flat many moons ago, we had a Polaroid camera. Anyone who visited the flat got their photo taken and they wrote their phone number on, and they were stuck on the wall by the phone. We must have accumulated around 40 or 50 pictures (including plumbers, my flatmate's girlfriend's mum and the Landlady). So one day we decided to play top trumps with them. From memory, the categories were: Age Height Weight Shitest haircut Biggest arsehole Who would win in a fight (a wee lassie would always trump a guy) We didn't write down the stats, so there would inevitably be arguments about who was the bigger arsehole or who weighed more. The top trump was an utter walloper called Cavie, who was a big fat b*****d, practised martial arts and had a ridiculous half crew-cut type haircut. Conversely, I was one of the worst cards, being young, small, crap at fighting, and a top notch guy.

  21. There's only one game to go in most groups, so the qualification picture is starting to clear up a little bit. It looks as though 8 or 9 points might be needed in order to secure a best runner-up spot, but it's still theoretically possible to go through with as few as 6. The table below shows a basic summary of the minimum and maximum theoretical totals that the 2nd placed club could have in each group. There are at least 3 groups where the runners-up will have more than 6 points, so only a very bizarre chain of events would lead to anyone on 6 going through. There are already 2 groups which are guaranteed to have more than 7 points, so 7 is also looking very shaky, which makes progression for Dundee seem unlikely.

  25. It's been a remarkable success. Nothing prepares a side as well as competitive games and as a neutral observer it's thrown up a whole host of interesting games and results and a fuckton of goals The only let down is the lack of highlights (unless I've missed them lurking somewhere?). I'm sure there will be wall to wall wanking over Joey Barton waltzing majestically past Stranraer somewhere but, I'd like to see some of the other clubs and games and in particular McGowan losing his shit at the end at Peterheid tonight. Also poor choices of live games but, they always screw the coverage up, so musn't grumble. All in all the best change since the play-offs IMO

  26. We really need SD to do an update on the the thing he put on the Cup forum yesterday. He's so selfish though that he's not done it. These games have been finished now for over an hour, but still nothing. I can't believe that guy at times.

  28. Hutton isn't good enough. First time he's been tested, when I've seen him in a Pars shirt, and he just isn't good enough. In the defence, Williamson is so poor defensively. BRE had his worst game I've seen. His ridiculous pass back, when the ball was already going to the keeper cost us the first goal. He was then poor all game, before being beaten in the air by someone a head smaller than him for the 4th goal. His concentration is so poor. Needs to learn! Ashcroft was ok. Talbot ran ragged all game, by a very good winger. McCabe was poor. Distribution wasn't as good as we should be expecting. Spence worked hard, but just wasn't good enough. Cardle was anonymous all game. Geggan did as well as he could, constantly covering for the other 3. Higginbotham is a class act, and is probably wondering why he came here. Moffat is never a striker. Two great chances. One, he lost the chance by not attacking the ball. The other he stayed out wide, rather than opening up the goal for himself. He's good at linking up play, but he's the last person I want to see the ball going to in/around the box. Sorry, but 2 goals against Arbroath mean nothing, if you're bottling chances like he did tonight - as he's done for the last 2 years! The ref was poor, but cannot be blamed for the result at all. Inverness took their chances well, and were well worth the win. Enough of this "we played well" crap. We lost 5-1. You can't argue that you played well, when you concede 5 goals. Worth pointing out that Inverness hit the post at least 3 times, albeit they scored from the rebound on one of them. Was really impressed with their number 15, I think he'll do really well in the top flight, if he plays to that level every week. Murdoch, Paton, Reilly and Wedderburn would all improve tonight's team. Not convinced by McMullan yet, he seems very lightweight, and the game has passed him by when he's come on in both home games. We had 6 players (including Paton, on the bench) unavailable tonight. In a squad of 18, that's always going to provide a challenge. I thought we should have been more capable than that though. Completely outclassed. That said, I wish Inverness all the best for the season. Played some good football tonight, and have really impressed me when I've seen them in the last few years.

  31. Reading this thread (my posts apart) really makes grim reading. Genuinely, it's full of horrific levels of self gratification after another patter laden post (COUGHS LOUDLY) makes its debut. Tell you what, let me go and think about what we can do to bring your collective patter up a notch. Good job you've got jolly jokers of my standing on here.

  33. Another story from that flat was one evening we tried mixing the remains of some cheap white wine and even cheaper cider together. The resulting concoction (which was christened Swine) was declared to be a resounding success. So much so that we all leapt out of bed at 9am the next morning to march triumphantly to the local carryout shop to buy around 8 litres of Pulse and a few bottles of the cheapest plonk available, for our inaugural "Swine at Nine" event. SwineFest continued all day - interrupted only by repeated trips back to the offie. I was keeping a lid on it as I was working in a pub in the afternoon. I came back around 9pm to witness some of the worst drinking-related carnage I've ever seen. Bodies and furniture scattered everywhere. Despite none of us being remotely violent-minded - even with a drink in us - some of the all-day Swiners decided to have "stand-up" fights... basically, the closest you can get to real fighting without actually wanting to hurt the other person. I only mention all this because it suddenly occurred to me that these fights might have come as a result of the Swine-fuelled debates about who would beat who in the Top Trumps cards.

  35. Disagree with this. Under normal circumstances I'd agree but I think the team's achievements last season did warrant that appreciation. The supporters were excellent that day - even though the team weren't. Christ, I just remembered how bad we were that day. Total shite.

  38. No probs with the result,3 could have been 6 or 7 but it wasn't.I think Rangers have a good team and Halliday and McKay will end up in the Scotland team for the long term, bright young players.I used to love Krancjar at Spurs and he has still got it,maybe at a slower pace but he was never fast.As for Stranraer I think we gave the ball away too often, but Rangers played a pressing game which was difficult for the part timers, but to be honest you cannot judge the team against the Ibrox men,we are a League one team and that is our bread and butter.Although we got beat 3 I enjoyed the whole evening, arrived about an hour before the game and the atmosphere before the game is something smaller teams don't have.I think The Govan team could challenge Celtic for the League this season, but you can't tell till they start playing in the Premiership as for Stranraer the focus is promotion.
