  2. They arrested one teenager out of a crowd of 3000, for singing someone that no-one who knows anything about Scottish football could possibly think was sectarian. He then had 3 months with the threat of a court case hanging over his head before it was rightly chucked out. It is literally the perfect example of why this law is complete b*llocks. I feel like people are must be being deliberately contrary now, so I'm off to bed.

  3. Let's consider all of this. Remember that a regulated football match includes pubs which are showing a game, and "a person may be regarded as having been on a journey to or from a regulated football match whether or not the person attended or intended to attend the match" So football doesn't actually need to be involved in a charge. At all. No even tangentially. Also that "behaviour that a reasonable person would be likely to consider offensive" is illegal. Which covers a huge range of things, extending well well beyond sectarianism, racism, sexism, other assorted 'isms'. Now to be fair it does say that it should only be things likely to incite disorder, but it still counts even if "persons likely to be incited to public disorder are not present or are not present in sufficient numbers." So it doesn't matter if there was no-one actually there to be offended. And of course, the law "applies to anything done outside Scotland by a person who is habitually resident in Scotland," provided they are at a 'regulate football match involving a Scottish team', which we've established can mean anything. At the end of this month Scotland play Italy in Malta. Fan A travels from Glasgow to the game, and joins in with a chant of "If you hate the English clap your hands." Fan B, who lives in London, is in the next seat along and joins in with the same chant. Fan A has committed a criminal offence. Fan B has done nothing wrong, and neither of them have offended or hurt anyone at all. If you can defend that then frankly you're a moron.

  5. Id like to put in a word here for the Board of DFC. Having been in this sort of situation this time last year, here we are again, potentially seeing a managerial team exit. If that does happen it would be a compliment to their well-executed selection process, but even so it must be a pisser if they have to pull another rabbit out of the hat. If it comes to that we should wish them well and hope for a speedy resolution, if only for the sake of So8's mental state.

  11. Valyrian steel blades that we know of in the show are longclaw (sword of house mormont but now Jon snows), the two forged out of Ice (the stark sword) now held by Brienne and presumably Tommen after Joffrey died. one held by Lord Tarly (Sam's dad who we'll presumably meet soon) and Littlefingers's dagger Far as I can recall they're the only ones relevant to the show at the moment There's a few more in the books. Daggers, an axe, a dothraki style scythe thingy as well as the Lannister one that went missing. The Iron throne was made out of swords taken by Aegon during the conquest. As Valyria was gone by this point you'd assume he wouldn't have wasted any of those rare blades by sticking them in the chair

  16. Would it be the worst thing if he moved on? Think he's done a decent job but if he went then fair enough (not saying I actively want him to leave) while we achieved the goal of staying up there were some right dodgy performances and without Nade the goal machine who knows...... First person to mention Jack Ross as a potential replacement gets a red dot.

  17. Judging by his past interviews etc he seems quite happy to give up the day job for a full-time gig. That does concern me slightly. I'm still yet to be fully convinced by Stevie, it's the timing that's the main issue for me. If he were to leave now it would be an absolute mess in terms of squad building. I'd also like to think he's learned from some of last seasons mistakes and would build on last season. Lets just hope that what is going to be an already very tough season isn't going to be made even more difficult with a change of manager during such a vital time.

  18. 1. Every society constrains freedom of speech in some way or another in terms of how people can express an opinion on another. You should not and cannot discriminate against someone based on race, religion, gender etc. Perjorative terminology for those classes is included here. That's because while freedom of speech is integral to a functioning free society, the bar should not be set at where folk are ghettoised and the threat (if not the reality) of violence is present. That's because a free society not only requires that people can have freedom of thought and expression but also that they should be free from violence for that expression. Only by mutual respect and consent can you get a truly free society, and therefore there will always be mandated limitations on certain expressions in order to create a space where mutual respect can flourish. Your god given right to insult someone on the basis of their religious sect can go f**k itself. 2. Given the unique history of each and every society it's the case that no two will ever be the same or formulate the same laws. Given the West of Scotland's unique historical ties with Northen irish politics as seen through the lens of football culture, it's inevitable that some focus will be given to that arena. Whatever you think of the law as it is today, sectarianism is an issue (though one that is thankfully less today than ever before) with very real consequences. 3. The irony of your comments about a 2nd referendum being that the people most banging on about a 2nd indy ref are your mob. Davidson couldn't help but mention it every second word in an attempt to rally hard core unionists to her cause, and to be fair it worked to an extent. 4. I really can't stand the whole 'divided family' argument. It's was an honest question, asked fairly. Anyone who ended up falling out with anyone else over it is a fucknugget and you can't really legislate for that. For the most part, people were able to debate their views honestly and openly (apart from that most vicious of battlegrounds, twitter) 5. Accepting the democratic will is one thing, and it was: after all Scotland is still a part of that benighted state. Still, they key to the democratic part of democratic will is the fact that people can change their minds and enough people keep voting for parties for whom Scottish sovereignty reposed in a Scottish state is a worthy cause. Thus the issue remains alive. Deal with it.

  19. Toshney, Benedictus, Davidson and Bates can all play there, Thomson at a push. I realise that Barr was outstanding in his run of games, there but if the choice was between Barr + a mediocre striker/winger and getting in someone of Connolly's standard (for example) then I'd be putting my faith in Davie Bates to live up to his potential and signing a ringer for up top.

  20. There is only one reason to try and get this law repealed and that is for the opposition parties to give the SNP a bloody nose. I would say the need for this law is even greater as we now have sevco back in the top league along with their thousands of bigoted fans

  23. Such a good show, I'm already buzzing for the next episodes. It's ridiculous to say this, given what's actually happened in the first two episodes but they were slow burners by Gomorrah's standards. Tension building very nicely for everything to get absolutely mental.

  26. I'm pretty gutted that Seabourne looks to be leaving. Yes his distribution was awful at times, but when it came to basic, gritty defending - he was excellent. The absolute seethe he generated from opposition fans almost every week was testament to the job he was doing. An expert at getting away with being a dirty, cynical b*****d. He's exactly the type of 'streetwise' player we've seemed to lack over the years.

  27. Went to the Macedonian Cup final tonight. Shkendika 2-0 Rabotnichki. Turned up to the arena at 7.30 for the 8pm kick off. Thousands queuing at two ticket windows. Ten minutes later found out I needed ID to buy a ticket (explaining the lack of scalpers). Ran back to the hostel and picked up my Passport. Got back to the arena at 8.10. Queue had disappeared as had the folk selling tickets. Went up to the turnstile and they just let me in for free. Hopefully they sort it out before the UEFA Super Cup. Missed the first goal, but Shkendija got another in the eight minutes of injury time. The game was stopped as Shkendija fans let off a few dozen flares then threw them into the toilet paper they'd thrown onto the running track below, starting a nice fire.

  31. I'd not castigate a Bear for listing our trophies and then demand some of them get stripped. It's very embarrassing for a grown up to feel that way. Edited: The correct answer is, of course, 53 1/2. One has to recognise our Rocky pals doon the road.

  32. That didn't answer my question: indeed, there's no indication that the opposition parties have an alternative bill that they wish to propose. So what would be the effect of repealing - rather than amending - the current Act, when the Scottish football authorities remain complete and utter shitebags? Why is that a good decision?

  35. I think it's genuinely just because they're thick as f**k and are incapable of viewing anything through either blue or green-tinted glasses. I remember a couple of seasons back either a Daily Record or Sun reporter was on one of those shite phone-in shoes saying it would be "catastrophic for Scottish football" if Rangers didn't get promoted that season. Rangers didn't get promoted and surprisingly f**k all happened. Same as the previous 2 seasons.

  36. I once thought I was gonna get a beating after a funeral. It was my old girlfriends grandma's funeral. We'd gone round to the ex's mum's the night before to sort a couple of bits out and ended up having a few beers. I was a bit bored while they were telling stories of the old hag so passed the time getting stuck into a bottle of whisky. I was rough as f**k at the church the following morning and struggling just sitting down. The service appeared to be drawing to a close and all I could think of was having a glass of water in the pub once it's done to try and ease my pain. I was just awaiting 'My Way' or something similar to belt out then we could go but the vicar asked us to stand to sing another hymn. The second he said it without thinking I muttered a little too loudly "oh for fucks sake" followed by a massive sigh. Pretty much everyone on the two rows in front of me turned round and glared at me. I was quite ashamed and mimed my way through what felt like a 25 minute hymn then we got to leave. Once we got outside the church my ex's mum's fella advised me to 'stay the f**k away' from the burial plot. I happily would have done but I wasn't sure how it'd go down with the girlfriend so I went but just lingered well away from the casket and even further away from the pissed off step dad. I skulked about at the wake for around half an hour afterwards just chatting to the old dears there as I assumed I'd be safe near them and no harm could come to me being in their presence. I escaped unscathed but I never did see the girlfriends parents again after it. We broke up a couple of weeks later.

  37. The last funeral I went to featured Unforgettable by Perry Como as one of the songs played. I found this a bit insensitive, since the deceased left behind a wife of 50+ years whose increasingly severe dementia meant she didn't know where she was at the time.
