  1. The phrase was used last season as well - but it's just another example of the cringe that a lot of people have about seeing grounds like Douglas Park or the Caledonian on TV or reading about sub-2000 crowds and bizarrely caring about what people in England think about it. Hearts, Hibs and Rangers (and soon Utd) all have the infrastructure to be top level clubs of course but the inconvenient fact is that whilst Hearts cruised through the Championship and are firmly re-established as a top side, Hibs and Rangers simply weren't good enough to come up and so remain as second tier clubs on merit for a few months more at least - and Utd despite their budget have been Championship standard, on a good day. On the flip side, Accies, ICT & Ross County - whilst being quite a bit further along the diddy club spectrum than most top flight teams have been historically - are all thriving relatively speaking and fully deserve their places in the top league at the expense of the larger clubs - and yet have been patronised and disdained in equal measure since they've been up. I've probably said it before but the attitude of "I can't wait until things get back to normal" by hacks and people in the game is out of date and misguided - I suspect they will be disappointed for a while yet as it may be a long time before nirvana is reached and the 12 biggest clubs are all in the top league together...

  2. Are you upset because you are a Championship team stuck in the Premiership?

  4. It's been pretty good weather this week so hopefully Saturday will be a good dayna for football. I'm usually Marvin by half-time so I'll probably get myself a Killie pie before witnessing a Kane Hemmings bullet header to win the game in the second half. Onthank you.

  6. Incidentally a 12 team topflight based on average attendance figures would still have County and Partick Thistle in it. So back to the drawing board on that one, Scottish sporting media.

  7. For those Dees who might be interested, the latest Pelé Podcast is an interview with Colin McMenamin. There is a fair bit about his time with Dundee, which on the whole he seems to have really enjoyed. There's a special mention for Messrs Melville and Brannan too. https://t.co/DbkngNxuhd

  9. Football is about performances. If you don't do it on the pitch you get relegated and rightly so. It doesn't matter if that's a result of board decisions, managerial ineptitude or shite player performances or a combination of all three. In terms of crowds, and therefore income, United is the sixth biggest team in Scotland but we don't deserve any pity or any special treatment. We deserve to be where we are. I'd like to think that we will get back up in one or two seasons but I certainly won't make any predictions to that effect. The 'smaller' Premiership clubs like ICT, Ross County, Hamilton, Partick and St Johnstone deserve enormous credit for what they have achieved. They are where they are on merit and good luck to them.

  11. Alright troops, I've recorded a podcast with well-travelled striker Colin McMenamin - CLICK. We spoke for well over two hours so I've had to divide it in two. The first part deals with Stenhousemuir's current season before he looks back at his teenage years and his move to Newcastle. He talks about three-and-a-half years at Livingston and then gives us the real money - Gretna and Dundee. Part two will be released tomorrow. They're both pretty excellent, plenty of great stuff in here. All thoughts and feedback welcome. Follow Tell Him He's Pelé on Twitter and like them on Facebook.

  20. Ad Lib must be a troll. I can't believe he continues to defend the UK Gov, when their track record is awful. As for Scotland, Tories already started asset stripping. To say they care is delusional at best. For someone who claims to be an active member of a political party, can be so out of touch with political reality. Westminster doesn't care about UK middle to working classes, not just Scotland. Their treatment of unemployed, sick and disabled is being investigated by UN for breaching human rights. Are you ready for next financial crisis that will be caused by Tories? Worse than 2008 and coming to you soon. Due to austerity, no reigning in of banks, financial institutions and continued over-reliance of UK GDP on banking and finances. Osborne went to EU to fight against tighter controls on bankers. Iceland jailed them. You are insulting my intelligence to claim UKGov care about anything apart from themselves and their pals in business and finance. I

  23. Schalk looks like a very good find, and Brian Graham - despite having no obvious footballing ability - has scored goals. I don't really approve of McIntyre dropping either of them (particularly Schalk) for David Goodwillie in the faint hope that Goodwillie might, just by chance, rediscover his form of half a decade ago. I would much rather see Schalk starting and Goodwillie coming on off the bench than the other way around.

  24. You simply don't know that. If one penalty was given, you don't know if you'd even have had another decision, or if ICT would go and score three goals. So stop with pish like this. Especially when most Aberdeen supporters seem to be admitting that you were pretty poor on the night.

  25. Also, Alan Stubbs is a slavering moron of a man. Barely a day goes by without him bleeting about how Scottish football 'needs' his club in the top flight. If they can't beat Rangers to the title, I'll savour their inevitable bottle job in the play-offs.

  26. All at meadow? Don't give me that pish. Most folk involved with meadow nowadays are hard working volunteers just like at any other football club, doing it for the love of the club. The old money men and committee that you go on about are long gone.

  27. Dare I say it - the outcry from Aberdeen over Collums performance - McInnes publicly criticising, captain criticising, prominent Aberdeen supporting pundits harping on about it, petition signing and a full day of local radio talking about said decisions and the petition. Very, very OF-esque.

  30. I hate to be pedantic, but...... The vote wasn't to 'kick Rangers out'. How can you kick a club out of a league that they've never been in, in the first place? The vote was to decide whether or not to allow the newco Rangers direct entry into the top flight. You are however correct in calling out Killie for being spineless shitebags by being the only club not to vote against the ludicrous proposal - they abstained.

  31. A big part of Jakey's problem is that once upon a time she was one of the most important people in the world zeitgeist - even hobnobbing with Prime Ministers (Gordon Brown), bang in the centre of things. Now although still hugely successful, she's slipped very much from centre stage in the public's eye. The Pottermania has gone, her attempts at adult works have gone down flat with the public (last year's TV dramatisation of The Casual Vacancy demonstrated her 'talent' to be found wanting when having to start from scratch instead of ripping off set pieces & tropes from already successful stories), and like Paul McCartney she's having to face the fact she's unlikely to sell anything else except on the back of past glories - the Robert Galbraith fiasco proved she can't cut it on her own talent. There's no ego quite like a bruised celebrity one, & her Nat bashing is largely because SNP supporters - and SNP supporters alone - indulge her almost as much as the Potter fans. The truth is that the former lonely skint single parent is terrified that her best days are behind her, & her Nat baiting has much to do with - and I'm loathe to use that phrase lampooning AOL which has become a P&B cliche, but it is all too true here... JK Rowling is scrambling for relevance. It's like that embarrassing crap Madonna started doing when a new generation of female singers came along & although her records still sold well, she was no longer front page news, & couldn't take it that the world had moved on to Britney, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, etc. Instead of indulging JKR, the SNP supporters would do better to ignore her, or give her something to keep her occupied, for example asking her on Twitter whether she ought to be playing some recompense to all those whose works she's made a billion from ripping off, especially Jill Murphy and the script writers of various 80s TV shows & films.

  34. Is this tracking app find my friends, or is there some more sinister ones than that? Find friends isn't even that accurate as it often has my girlfriend dotted about all over Edinburgh when she is at work and on Friday night when she was staying at her friends the app had her miles away from her friends address.

  36. Parma and Timişoara are two clubs which show how things are done since the financial fair play rulings came into force. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.S.D._Parma_Calcio_1913 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Politehnica_Timi%C8%99oara Anything used as precedence in rhetoric prior to the 2011/12 season is moot. The UEFA view on the FFP rules mean that any club reforming as a new club after insolvency have a break in their historical timeline as the case of Timişoara vs UEFA at the Court of Arbitration for Sport showed.

  38. I completely agree with the Kilbirnie lad, giving them a free week when they have played least games in league and are still in the Scottish. Anyone with common sense can see his point of view. Totally no logic in giving them a free week unless they have a chance to win the league hampering there chances and fixture piling them at end of season. This could aide the fixture man's club who he supports who may be challenging

  44. I have been round the world and almost everywhere I go Scottish people are seen in a very positive light. Countries like New Zealand and Canada who have over bearing neighbours, identify with our ability to carve out an independent identity, people from Japan and Germany have commentated on our strong history of science and industrial development saying Scotland has been seen as a pioneer in those fields, I have met South Africans and Sikh Indians who say they have admired our warrior spirit. Almost everywhere I have gone I have met people who are very positive about Scotland. Modern Scotland faces many of the same "post industrial" problems of the US rust belt and large parts of Europe. Inside or outside the Union we will be in the same macro economic model as the rest of Europe and the developed world. Perhaps outside we can carve a more "mittelstadt" and knowledge based economy. But the ragging out on Scotland out of bitterness because you did not get your wishes in a vote is the kind of petulant pish that turns people off nationalism in a big way. Instead of tipping over the games board in a fit of petulance and blaming everyone else for not being as "clever" as you, i.e. not voting for what you wanted, why do you not spend more time trying to work out what it was with what was on offer that people were unconvinced by and strengthening that part of your package? You and several other people round here seem to be in a permanent tantrum that people did not do what you told them. Have you ever considered the crazy idea of listening to people?
