  1. Sorry if this has already been covered elsewhere, but I was just having a belated look at the bbc's season preview, and they seem to think that Gary Glen has already moved on. Or at least, he's mentioned as "former Raith Rover man Gary Glen" in the Livi section. He'll be missed. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/scotland/27793738

  4. "There's not enough detail" has become the staple excuse for Nos and undecideds. The truth is there is plenty of detail from the Yes side out there. The difference is it isn't spoonfed to us by the media and you actually have to look for it. In the year 2014 it shouldn't be hard to turn on a computer and look at some stuff for 15-30 minutes each day. That's if you genuinely care about the vote. It's up to them to decide whether it's legit or complete bollocks.

  5. I'd still vote for Independence if it meant I'd immediately get hit in the pocket or I got any immediate bad consequences. This is way greater and bigger than voting for what you think is best for you; this is voting for the benefit of generations to come, and for the greater good of Scotland.

  9. You'll be glad to know that the UK also frequently saves it's taxpayers money by repatriating foreign criminals to serve their sentences in their country of origins for crimes committed in the UK. We may end up paying a bit more or a bit less through this but to actually check this out would make you the kind of w****r that says "Well I didn't have rice" when the bill arrives

  10. Aye, I still shout for Caley every matchday. I still hug the bairns when Caley score. I still read the sports pages looking for the smallest snippit mentioning Caley. I can still remember the final whistle at Huntly in May 1994, the locals celebrating an HFL championship and us, well, mourning an old friend. You'll never enjoy your football again 8. Why? Because Sevco will never give you what Rangers did. Sevco will never live up to the name and the more they tarnish the name of Rangers FC the more you hate them.

  13. I've given you my reasons, why can't you accept them, you don't have to agree with them. I obviously don't agree with yours but I can accept that its your choice. I could have said "just cos" but I've taken the time to explain my logic, I know its not just about the SNP, I did say I'd quite like a 'what if' scenario for other parties to post their post indy plans but it would be a bit of an own goal for them to say NAW, but X, Y and Z if it happens so I wouldn't really expect them to.

  14. I'm sorry but for me if I'm gonna be jumping out of the frying pan I want to make pretty damn sure it's not straight into the fire. I believe that the SNP (who I think would most likely be the winner of the first election) should be setting out their stall. They're the only party that is 'up' for independence, in an ideal world I'd like all the parties to have a 'what if' scenario. Sticking with the SNP, that would be admitting to policies that some will like and some won't but for me it would be honest. They seem to be saying/not saying anything that will get them over the finishing line. I get that the SNP will do anything to gain independence, its kind of their thing but as I've said before I want a bit more flesh on the bones. My cynical side is dubious of the fact that they are willing to let everyone see their own view of what they would get with independence, you can see it on this forum, lots of "after independence we'll do this or that", none of which has been confirmed. I'm not exactly enamoured with the great minds in Holyrood anyway so there are a few reasons why I'm not keen. Just to be clear, just because I don't rate most of the current MSP's doesn't mean that I think we'd be incapable of running a country, I just don't think they would be the ones I'd choose. While its not likely that we'll get another vote for a good long while I'm willing to wait for more favourable circumstances. Now for the dissection.......

  16. A quick google shows that the point of the meeting was that you will be "socially, culturally and politically better off with independence." There. That took 30 seconds to debunk.

  20. Derek Ferguson is awful when they use him as a reporter at matches. He sound like he has written each word of his notes on different bits of paper and is struggling to put them in order. I don't mind him when he's in discussions though - he often seems insightful and knowledgeable. I've also seen him at a couple of "Show Racism the Red Card " things, and he struggles in the presentation, but is far more natural in the q&a and more informal environments. Willie Miller hasn't stopped moaning since his first game for Aberdeen, although now he seems to moan about everything rather than specifics. Chick Young is to journalism as a dog is to playing the trombone. Murdo MacLeod makes Willie Miller seem positive. Billy Dodds is a p***k, and thick as mince. Most of the rest are ok.

  26. I have to be honest here, and while Celtic have fallen in a barrel of shite and come out smelling of roses, if I were Lawell, I'd politely respond to Legia's 'begging letter' saying 'really sorry for you and all that, but it really isn't our fault, so erm, nae' luck guys'. If it was St Mirren getting gubbed in the Scottish Cup quarters by, let's say Livingston, then it transpired they'd made an unfortunate error - if Stewart Gilmour subsequently said 'aye right enough, just a silly error, we'll let Livvy through to the semis' - I would personally drive to Paisley to give him a short, sharp slap in the ashet.

  27. Feck aye. I often have a wee snifter in the ludge wi' 'Big Dode', as he is affectionately known. He was regaling us with a story about some spivvy scrote (Dode actually used the phrase 'Compo Simmonite impersonator' ) who was pestering him to invest a few mill. in 'one of Europe's premier football teams'. Dode sent him packing with a flea in his ear, telling him that he would never put money into Real Madrid as they were a former plaything of the dictator Franco and Dode isnae into that shite.

  42. The media spin on the debate, is more responsible for this than the actual debate itself. There are far too many Yes supporters out there who are doing he-haw for the campaign. I know several who refuse to try and debate the subject with No voting friends for fear of social conflict. I'm prepared to fall out with anyone because it is way too important an issue. We have to keep at it, we are on the right side and this will be proven, whatever the result.

  43. We've lost our opening game something like once in the last 7 seasons now - it's not exactly a fantastic achievement. I'm glad we won yesterday but there's a long way to go before Murray regains the trust of the support I'm afraid. Patience was exhausted last season and it won't take much for the knives to be straight back out. A good run will restore some goodwill, but a lot of damage was done last season and that doesn't just vanish when the season finishes. Our start could've been a lot worse than the one we were given and I think there's a good opportunity to rack up some points. If we can do so, I do think that some goodwill and confidence will be restored.

  46. I'm going to keep this brief because I have very little stomach for negativity. Last night was abysmal. I cannot stress that enough. I'm sure there are people who weren't at the game last night thinking "It was only 1-0, what's the big deal?" but it was honestly such a depressing performance to witness. It'd take someone with a greater analytical mind than mine to list all of the faults with our side last night, but there are a few things that stood out for me, and which should be reasonably simple to fix. For one, I don't think McKeown is a terrible player. Unfortunately, he has played terribly in the last two games. I think he and Conroy need to have a sit down in a room together and talk through how they want to work together this coming season. Both of them keep trying to occupy the same space. McKeown picks up the ball and carries it over the half way line until he's closed down by a midfielder; Conroy comes deep to take the ball from him, bringing a marker; McKeown gives him the ball and moves beyond, but only by a matter of yards; Conroy turns to face the right way, with the ball, but he's now 50 yards from goal with two men in front of him and no options but a backwards or a sideways pass. Either Conroy needs to be going down the flank instead of going deep, or McKeown needs to go on the overlap/underlap once he's given the ball to Conroy. Ross Perry needs to calm the f**k down. He plays the entire game like he's defending a 1-0 lead and it's deep into injury time. Defences, more than any other area of the park, need time to gel. Hopefully with another game or two together Perry, Watson et al can form more of a solid unit and then we can go through it all again once Barr/Hill return. We badly missed Elliot last night. For all that everyone wants Lewis Vaughan to succeed, he's got no where near the footballing maturity (understandably) to play in that very specific "number 10" role behind Nade. I don't think Elliot is ideal for that role, but he's by far the most effective player in the squad. In fact, I'd go so far to argue that he's the only player in the squad suited to playing behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1. That, for me, is the biggest flaw in the squad that Murray has built. Rather than searching for a penalty box striker to play second fiddle to Nade, we should be looking for a second choice "10", knowing that we can push Elliot up front if need be. Murray obviously realised that the 4-2-3-1 wasn't working last night, because we hadn't even reached half time before Vaughan was moved out wide and Stewart (as an aside, I keep wanting to call him "Armstrong" for some reason - so if you seem me referring to an Armstrong at any point, I mean Stewart...) went up top alongside Nade. Unfortunately, that gave our players an easy option for the rest of the game. Firing the ball to Big Nade and hoping he'd flick to on to Fast Stewart, and it nearly paid off once or twice, but we shouldn't have been playing that sort of shitty football. We should have been playing the ball through the middle, getting it into Nade's feet. I've never seen a player at this level who turned his man, or men, so easily. He could've been using his close control to release Stewart into space behind the defence, but he didn't get the chance. Scott and Fox were both fixated on pushing the ball out to Conroy and McKeown (see previous paragraph for the results of that tactic) instead of going toe-to-toe with the Pars central midfield. Kevin Moon should solve that particular issue, but we shouldn't collapse so utterly and completely without one central midfielder. As it turns out, I haven't kept it brief at all. I will stop now though...

  47. The Grand Budapest Hotel; 10/10 There are three types of people in this world; 1. people who adore Wes Anderson's films, 2. people who can't stand them, and 3. people who haven't seen any. I am unapologetically in group 1. I finally got around to seeing his latest. This might be my favourite, and and that's saying a lot - The Darjeeling Limited is easily in my top three films of all time. I'm sure the plot is well known, so I'll just say that Anderson's blend of funny and heartbreaking is probably funnier and sadder in this film than any of his others. A magisterial piece of work. And a glorious soundtrack. Loved it.

  48. I'm getting a major kick out of the fact that the great Lord Saviour Alex Salmond has poison pilled his own yes campaign. I'd like to think those 12 minutes of him cross-examining Darling was the 12 minutes of self destruction for yes Scotland. A job well done by Darling and the BT gang.
