  2. Wee update on Orlaith-Rose, 13 days today, and still being tube fed, her billiruben is creeping up again so we expect her to be back under lights again, setting her back for another few weeks. A long road again it seems to get her home, just want the wee doll out of hospital and with her family!!

  3. Aye, going to both semi finals and the final next Saturday, costing a fair whack but fair looking forward to it. I've been a fan of the contest since I was young but haven't been able to make the trip because of uni exams in May so this is my first contest, pretty buzzing for the whole thing.

  5. I was in the same boat as Enigma and mancinirules about just freezing the Juniors out, but that was more when the standard of 'debate' from the Juniors was "lol we'd pump these teams and take a thoosand fans". As the more intelligent Junior fans put across their arguments it's understandable that they have these concerns. You have to work with them as the ideal for us all I'm sure is to have a full pyramid in place with all sides involved (I agree with those who say "we're all just football teams"). However, it's a two way thing. I have nothing from the Juniors to suggest they are willing to compromise on anything. Until they're actually willing to offer up suggestions and take into account non-Junior clubs they can't spout off about no one doing anything to include/help them.

  7. Either side could win this game if they score more goals than the other team, or if they win on penalties in the event of a draw. I just hope Dundee United win because I support them.

  8. The Albion Rovers season 2014/15 thread comes to Pie and Bovril faster than a James Ward contract deadline. Plenty to talk about over the next few months, from £300 a week wages to £10 season tickets, and testimonials to stadium expansions. Will the happy clappers be able to find positives in Reid and Phillips leaving? Will John Devlin make more corporate-like announcements of boardroom changes? Will Albino Rover ever have anything positive to say? All the answers will be revealed over the coming months...

  11. Sorry, can't agree with that at all. He's done absolutely nothing to suggest that for me, nothing whatsoever. When have we tried anything different at all this season? It's 4-4-2 no matter what. He had 4-5-1 almost forced upon him at Easter Road and it worked a treat, so he decided to approach the next league game in the same manner - 4-0 down at half time at home. What else has he tried? For me, there's an absolute catalogue of errors for Murray this season. In no particular order: "First and foremost" the squad size The timing of dropping Ross Laidlaw Failing to sign a centre back in January Failure to sign a winger of any kind at any stage to give competition to Cardle and Anderson His merry-go-round of strikers - it's not all about who scored last which is why we've been 'treated' to Baird and Spence chasing their own first touches all game on several occasions when it's clearly, by a long distance, our worst partnership 4-4-2 no matter what Square pegs in round holes - the Dumbarton game for instance Failing to even attempt a shake-up for the majority of games e.g. swapping Anderson and Cardle for 5 minutes, push Thomson forward when it's not working for Booth, etc Insistence on playing players, e.g. Cardle and Fox, when completely off form The difference in attitude between Cup and league games A completely and utterly criminal failure to address set-piece problems - just how many did we lose? Probably the pettiest of my points but his post-match interviews really do not suggest he knows what's going wrong at all - accept this could be a public facade but it doesn't inspire confidence after yet another defeat when he just repeats that "we're disappointed as we want to win games of football" Four points from twelve games (a third of the season) against the top 3 A complete failure to handle the behaviour of Calum Elliot with referees. A complete failure to address the shocking defending which saw us leaking 3-4 a game EVERY game A complete failure to address our woeful away form - seven points from our last thirteen away games. THREE WINS IN TWENTY The last few months have completely drained me of any hope Grant Murray is the man to take us forward. He's given us a moment we'll never forget, but it's also a moment that shouldn't be allowed to hold us back. He built a good first team this season at the expense of a squad but the worrying thing is, as pointed out, we haven't had a bad injury record at all this season. We lost our first choice goalie for much of the season but the man Murray signed as back-up and the man Murray brought in to replace the back-up were nowhere near upto it. We lost our first-choice centre back for much of the season but the men Murray signed as back-up, and indeed Murray's other first choice centre back, weren't up to it. We lost Elliot for a spell and Smith and Spence, who Murray signed, weren't upto it. There's the shell of a good team but if I were a Watson, a Cardle, a Moon, a Baird, I'd be looking elsewhere as they certainly don't deserve to have a team with as poor a record as ours. A shell is not enough. Let's try to keep what good we have in the playing pool and get rid of a manager who has completely failed to take us ANYWHERE since his appointment - we finished seventh under McGlynn in 11/12 with 44 points, and we finish 7th, in a weaker league with a better squad, with 42 points in 13/14. Someone else has to be given the chance to improve on that.

  12. You might have a problem with it if you were going and also taking your wife and 2 or 3 kids. Yesterday's Welsh Cup Final prices were Adult £8, Senior Citizens £5, Under 16's £1. See, I can do ridiculous comparisons too.

  13. Yes, I know that, but obviously the situations aren't directly comparable...

  14. The season is done now and we can fully assess our achievement. I've been accused of being a happy clapper this season as, for me, it hasn't been all doom and gloom. However, we have finished 2 points clear of relegation. 2points, or a Jason Thomson dive (that's for all them Cowden fans who'll be spewing the day anyway ) I'm sorry, but that isn't good enough. add in our form since December and we'll be lucky to not do a Morton next season! As most of our squad are out of contract we have an opportunity to rebuild. I wouldn't clear out as there a few gems in there but the squad as a whole lacks balance, experience and a bit of dig to get us through games. I would say the club would be best taking the hit and coming to a deal with the Managerial team to move them on. We have time to go through the process of identifying a new manager who can build a decent squad for next seasons championship. I wouldn't say Murray is a total failure, he isn't. However, looking forward, the probability of us being cannon fodder with him at the helm next season are pretty high. There are some decent managers out there who could do a much better job with what we've got and what we could have.

  15. Getting shot of Murray would be a start. He's been a class act as a player, and I'll never forget the wins against Hibs and Sevco but sadly both of those were on the virtue of a solitary "We'll hit you on the break and hope for the best". When it comes to the bread and butter of the league, we've not been an improvement (bar the first few months of this season) over McGlynn minus the never say die attitude. We should be looking to keep (minus career ending injury) McGurn, Booth (if we can get him back), Watson, Cardle, Moon, Callachan and Baird. We'll have Vaughan and Laidlaw on top of those. In terms of the rest, I'd be content if Hill and Thomson return, but I'd not be bothered about the rest. As I mentioned elsewhere, as a club it is time we changed our philosophy from the long ball tactics which were on show yesterday. Our current route isn't going to attract anybody to Stark's Park any time soon.

  16. I think there may well be but he clearly couldn't give a f**k, he either needs to pull his socks up of have somebody knock some sense into him. He was fucking garbage at the beginning of the season and didn't look like he was even pretending to try. Somebody on here said he'll be in the juniors in 3-5 years, they're absolute right, I guarantee it. John McEnroe said in an interview I remember that when he watches the elite boys tennis he can tell by the kids attitude, and attitude alone, who will and won't make it. I will not be happy if he's still at the club next season. You only have to look at somebody like Tade to see where hard work, ambition and determination can get you even if you are have weaknesses in other, more technical areas. If Murray is in charge at the start of next season we won't finish above 8th, at a push, unless he signs a team who have quality enough to get results despite him. Our problems are two fold really, 1) We have a squad with some players who simply do not perform to the best of their abilities, 2) We have a management team who let them.

You're going to have to clarify, because that sounds like everybody, from Craigie Boy and Chuckie, through Ally and Imran, Durrant and McDowall, all the way down, through the "footballers" like Cribari, Peralta, Daly, and the rest, to the kit-mans boy. 21. I am indeed a very nice man. And I wasn't intending to humiliate anyone. You started the blind ignorance race with that line by including my club within a group that you know next to nothing about and asserting: "Whether they deserve to be part of the nation's football culture at all, I doubt, as they don't seem to have much of a plan to improve football from grassroots up." My team has 2 lads who played with our Community Club as kids who both went through the grades to what is now SPFL Championship as very young boys at Clyde. Clyde went tits up and they came back to the Rose. We have a current Community Club goalkeeper on our books. We have a current Community Club midfielder on our books. Neither features often in the squad on a Saturday but they hook into the training with our lads and they benefit from that. Moreover, it may surprise you to know that the head of our Community Club coaching staff was awarded the SFA Grassroots Coach of the Year at a major awards ceremony at Hampden last August. He is a Uefa licenced coach, a goalkeeping specialist who works with a range of different groups right up to women's international level. As well as being the head of the Community Club coaching staff, he is the Linlithgow Rose goalkeeping coach, was our interim manager for a period in March and has been asked to remain in post following a change in mgt personnel. In addition to that, we have our Entry Level licence because the facilities are decent. Our player facilities are of a level that encouraged the Australian national team to use Prestonfield as their pre-match venue ahead of a game against Scotland in recent times. We have a thriving support with over 200 season ticket holders. We have a covered stand with 300 seats and terracing cover for around 1000. Our playing surface is one of the best you'll find at any level of the game. We pay our players well for football at this level with most earning between £70 and £120 a week. We have no sugar daddy and we've had no grants in recent seasons to support what we've done. Now, on the back of all of that, does my club deserve to be cast aside or forgotten in the manner you suggested simply because they have been unable to accept that what was offered up by the SFA in the construction of the LL was a step forward for them? There are few clubs in the LL who have a better structure than Linlithgow Rose and that may be the case for some time to come.

In all seriousness, I wonder who this Championship striker is - presumably he'd be on a fair whack if he dropped down too. More inclined to think it'd be an older guy. Peter MacDonald?

  28. Unless McGowan drops his wage demands he should be binned. Big disappointment this season. Most important player to get tied down has to be McLean, unfortunately I think he will be off to bigger things down south and you can't blame him at all. Is Harkins still here for next season? If we can tempt Oldham into parting with a nominal fee for him then we'll be laughing. Either way get him punted.

  29. You're absolutely entitled to be unhappy with how your league season has unfolded, and absolutely entitled to question the manager's suitability as you look ahead. When assessing the season though, just remember that you got an afternoon last month that most fans would have killed for and that you'll remember far longer than you would, had you picked up enough points to be a couple of places further up the table. I'm not saying this in defence of your manager and players; just reminding you that fandom is all about the occasional glory and this season presented you with a huge slice.

  31. 7th, the Ramsdens cup and a Scottish Cup QF is a decent season. The alarming run of form and absolute garbage we have served up in 2014 is why we should be looking to change. Next season has potential to be brilliant..... if we are competitive. I can't see us being unless there are some drastic changes. Murray has done a decent job but we look out of ideas and motivation. Time for a change.

  32. I actually thought there was a fantastic atmosphere at that game. McDiarmid gets flack for being a soulless lego dome or whatever but that's mainly due to it being less than a 1/3 full most weeks, when it's nearing capacity i think it's one of the best grounds in the SPL for generating noise. I had to sit in the north stand due to the east and Ormond being sold out that night and it seemed like a good portion of the stand were getting right behind the team despite most of them only being casual fans. Suppose the real difference was at the end, i slumped into my chair "on the verge of tears" if you will and one of the casuals that came along with us just sort of brushed it of with a "nevermind" as it obviously didn't mean as much to him, he still knew plenty of the songs however so i wouldn't worry about people not getting involved.

  38. I wouldn't be opposed to us bringing in a few more part time players to bolster the squad. If Alloa go down I'd hope Grant Murray was standing in Ben Gordon's front garden by the time he got in from the game. Outstanding defender who won't/can't go full time.
