  1. To be perfectly honest i'm suspicious of anyone coming into the club at this point in time but exactly what assurances could we seek re;Walter Smith,"question, was he an EBT recipient;answer,no". Unless there is 100% unchallengeable proof then where can the support go on this. Sometimes you have to go on trust and reputation, which to be fair Smith by all accounts is a very reputable person. Unless the support receives a list of recipients that is 100% bang on without fear of challenge then what is their options. For what it's worth,as much as i respect Smith for what he brought to the clu success wise in both his tenures,i would prefer the club would have moved away from the old regime into a new era and that includes McCoist as manager.

  2. I think we need to chill out here. The murals have been put up the brighten things up a bit on a neglected part of the ground and as far as I am aware it is not a definitive list of the club's greatest ever players. So why all the bed wetting? To be honest I find it strange that part of the mural depicts Davie Rae in with a field a herd of cows, but that's the artist's choice, so who am I to argue? I certainly won't lose any sleep over it or view it as evidence that the club is going to hell in a handcart. It seems the club can't do right for doing wrong at times. Anyway, just before we get all Rita Hayworth by this latest 'catastrophe' for the club, let's cling to the very real situation that we find ourselves in at present. Christmas is just around the corner and in case some folk have forgotten, we are top of the league (unbeaten), four points clear and have a game in hand. This is not the time to be sitting with a face like a smacked arse over an artwork

  3. Of course there is a point in asking the question and it may well have been asked although to my knowledge i don't know if any support group have asked the question. However what may be more relevant is that Smith and McCoist being possibly the two most high profile figures at the club in the last 20 years i would imagine that if they had received an EBT then surely their names would have arisen during any investigation. After all such names as Murray,McLeish,Ogilvie,Greig,Advocaat,Ferguson,Bain came to the fore,i would think it's fair to say if Smith and McCoist were recipients no doubt being such high profile as they are their names would have came forwad also. As well as that no doubt after the BBC going public with the list they and any other media outlet would be searching very intently on both Smith and McCoist. The fact that nothing has been found may be significant that they were not recipients.

  6. Firstly, I know there's a multitude of threads running - many of which now only exist for our amusement, posting of 'pleasing' gifs, and general 'let's all laugh and point at Rangers' merriment.... The more I'm hearing though, the more I'm looking towards the actual end game here, and would like to gauge reaction as to where we will be a year, two years, however many years down the line. For as long as i remember I have personally felt disgusted by the way football clubs play fast and loose in a manner no 'normal' business can ever hope to get away with. I see this going the same way as so many clubs before them. They'll dodge the big one by playing the administration card. They won't be the first, they won't be the last. So, what's your prediction for the actual end to this? To my eyes it's all set up with Whyte knowing all along that he would decide when to play the administration joker card to position himself as main creditor. I genuinely believe some sort of deal will grudgingly be accepted by HMRC. There will be pain for Rangers - but they will indeed dodge the big hammer blow. Short term pain, longer term, they'll weasel a way to rise phoenix-like from administration, as I say, like so many morally bankrupt cheating football clubs before them. Thoughts? Hopefully not just of a 'LOL' nature! Really looking to see what you guys seriously see the end of this actually being when the dust settles.

  8. It was certainly a very disappointing day for us and I think our players and fans will look back on it with great regret, we simply didn't turn up. No point in dwelling on it though, particularly when this Alloa team entertained us so well last season and has now made a very solid start in the higher division. I wouldn't use the word "shameful" when these players have done so well for us over the past year or so. I'm just glad that we didn't vote for Sevco in Division 1 and erect a painting of Andy Goram at our ground - that really would be galling for our fans . If Alloa play to potential I think we are quite capable of causing QoS problems in the remaining games between the sides. Overall however QoS are already looking like champions elect in this league and I think Alloa would be very happy if we can secure a play-off spot.

  10. Where did i say that Daly was incompetent?Read my post again. I stated that as i believe Daly is very competent then given the extent of his investigation and the fact that he has not found anything regarding Smith being a beneficiary of an EBT then in that respect i'll take it that there is no evidence to present that Smith was a recipient. As for RTC what reason would they have for holding back any information regarding Smith having an EBT because tbh and to put it perfectly blunt the case no longer applies to the club going forward. They can drip feed all they want,as you put it,but it does not matter now who received what. It may apply to individuals in respect of any tax owed but not the club as such. Personally i didn't want Smith back at the club in any role, for that matter i didn't want McCoist as manager either and in that respect it does not bother me in the slightest whether he received an EBT,if he did, which on evidence presented is doubtful, then was there anything illegal about it at the time, the answer is no. What i will criticise Smith about is his reluctance to be critical on Murrays handling of the finances at the club and his subsequent sell out to Whyte. As for your comment about Nick Davies that is just nonsense and not relevant in any way. I'll repeat again,if there was anything re; Smith on EBTs then i'm quite sure that his name would have surfaced long before now.

  11. I like most of Limmy's stuff because it ranges from intelligent comedy, just plain daft stuff to the bizarre and thought-provoking stuff. His wide range usually means I enjoy the episode even if it's not made me laugh much. It's on a different planet to Burnistoun and Gary Tank IMO.

  13. So now because they may not have been recipients they have to explain why they weren't. Why the hell should either of them give a reason as to why they didn't receive or take up any option on one? So there has to be an explanation as to why they were recipients,if they were, but also explain why they weren't recipients,if they weren't. Behave yourself. These EBTs started two years after Smiths' first tenure. Out of all the senior coaching staff under Smith second tenure not one was mentioned by Daly as being on the list of having received one. Walter Smith,manager-not on the list, Ally McCoist-not on the list,Ian Durrant-not on the list,Kenny McDowall-not on the list,Jim Stewart-not on the list. Now that either tells me that Daly isn't very good at his job as an investigative reporter or just maybe none of the mentioned received an EBT. I'll go with Daly being competent at his job and none of those mentioned were recipients.

  14. Aye you cannae beat a bit of good old fashioned hearsay dressed up as facts. Youngsy has given a few good answers to this and you've shown a complete lack of respect, as per usual. Now if there was was proof that Walter Smith had used an EBT (perfectly legal) then it would be in the public domain by now, so do yourself a favour and lock yourself in a dark room for the rest of the day.
    1 point
  15. As I see it , Youngsy, some of your reasons for questions being unnecessary are exactly the reasons they are necessary - for the image of the club/company and those of Smith and McCoist. As you noted, there was a BBC investigation, which uncovered a lot of people in receipt of EBTs. What it did not uncover was evidence of the equivalent amount as declared in rangers' accounts. More was declared than Daly found destinations for. Which would raise the question: where did the rest of that money go? As is also known, and as you say, there are many high-profile employees and ex-employees on that list. Smith certainly, and possibly also McCoist, are glaringly prominent by their absence. Given the missing money, and the missing names, and the whole clusterfuck which has been this sorry saga, I don't think it's strange that many have added two and two in this instance. Whether the answer is four or sixty seven, we just don't know. For the sake of "transparency", what would be either Sally or Wattie's problem in stating "yes" or "no" on this point? Many non-rangers fans already assume they had them, and equally rangers fans will state the opposite. Given both men (now) having involvement with both rangers and the Tribute Act, I feel that any perception of chicanery would not play well with the authorities. As for why nobody has asked the question: 1. Rangers fans - quite simply, scared they might get the "wrong" answer. 2. MSM: FFS, don't upset them! We might not get any more "exclusives" 3. Internet Bampots: Well, we have been raising this point for months, but nobody listens to us.....

Personally, i'm happy with how things have turned out and will just wait to see what develops in regards to the ongoing investigations and their results. For the moment, 'Rangers 2012' playing in Division Three during the brutally freezing cold winter months ahead will have to do on the laughs front.

  22. I know you haven't been on here that long, but you must have noticed by now - generalise and you'll get pulled up. It's a tactic popularised by your amigos, funnily enough. 1. Belfast is in the UK. 2. Belfast is a major city. 3. Teams in Belfast would be very happy if they could attract Killie's average gate. "There is no generally accepted term to describe what Northern Ireland is: province, region, country or something else. The choice of term can be controversial and can reveal the writer's political preferences. This has been noted as a problem by several writers on Northern Ireland, with no generally recommended solution" - source? One thing I think you'll find that Northern Ireland is NOT, and that is a COUNTY. One view is that it consists of SIX counties, in fact, but I suspect that's not a popular view in your neck of the woods. Just think, if you'd said "Oh, I fucked up, and what I meant was..." an hour ago, I wouldn't be exposing your stupidity again. The Island? Means the Isle of Wight in my social circle, but I've never heard it refer to Ireland. OK, back on topic - Walter's back! As with the old club, so with the new. That's what Walter says, anyhoo. I assume you'll be putting him straight? ETA: Your original post said: "It is perfectly normal for a city the size of Glasgow to have some well supported teams, it is the same as every other major city in the UK" The piece in bold seems pretty definitive to me, not what I would call generalisation. Then again, I do use English as a first language....

  23. Says the fuckwit who just greenied Tedi for calling Ireland a county! Comprehension skills maintaining consistency. Tedi made a statement - he was talking bollox - there isn't a team in Ulster with an average attendance over 5k, and Belfast, with 1/4 million people, is a fairly major city by all accounts. I find it frankly bizarre that Tedi, and you obviously, don't know the full title of our country: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. f**k knows they bang on about it often enough at ibrox......

  24. 12 Boards Of Canada Music Has The Right To Children (1998) Bloody typical - you wait half a thread for a Boards Of Canada album and then two come along at once. When initiating this poll and trying to think of what would chart highly, I had MHTRTC as one of the leading contenders. It often represents electronic music in more general polls and is widely held up as one of the finest examples there is of "electronica", one of Warp Records' sacred cows. But, clearly the magic that surrounds BOC had these two albums destined to slither through this chart to sit comfortably next to each other. There are higher forces at work here, people. Entirely why BOC evoke such strong feelings of childhood nostalgia isn't clear. There is a specific aesthetic to their music and imagery - resemblance to soundtracks to 1970s/80s nature documentaries, public information films and music for schools is often explicit in their tracks. They have talked of a process of purposefully "degrading" their sound, lending it a haze to make it sound as if it was discovered in boxes of old VHS tapes. Yet here in 2012 their appeal remains to be discovered by a generation who can't be nostalgic for those times by virtue of having not been around then. Perhaps the appeal is different for those people, but there is something purely about the music, both in the sound and melodies, that provokes those feelings. We can all be nostalgic for times that we never knew in the first place, moreso now than ever before with easy access to media of all sorts both from those times and depicting them. The music here is terrific throughout - its notable not just for that memory haze but stands as innovative and influential electronic music. From the stutter and thump of Telephasic Workshop and the pounding gloop of Sixtyten, to the sparkling beauty of Turquoise Hexagon Sun and slow motion funk of Aquarius, it delights at every turn. The twin miniatures of Kaini Industries and Bocuma, gripping loops of Rue The Whirl, endless turns of Pete Standing Alone and soothing calm of Open The Light are only some of the highlights of this outstanding collection. Music Has The Right To Children is one of the landmark releases in the history of electronic music, the first widespread glimpse of brothers Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin's original, captivating work. Its influence is still heard in countless places in recent years, from the hauntological roster of Ghost Box records and wonky hip-hop of Moon Wiring Club, to the freeform synth workouts of Oneohtrix Point Never and cosmic melodies of Polysick. This was their introduction to the wider world, and remains for many their definitive statement.

  25. Fair comments, WRK (ok to abbreviate?). I've followed this from the beginning, and if I'm honest, a lot of what you have said over the piece has been very good. You have, unfortunately, let your standards slip by the tetes-a-tete with the three Amigos. Which you've 'fessed to - fair enough. We've hit a period of slow news so I guess we could all easily be sidetracked as a result. If you feel like ripping them a new one - fair comment as well. They deserve it. Although, I think Tedi is actually ok on occasions. The two Ben.....'s really are fair game, IMO. Lastly, just to be clear - I'm a Dumbarton fan, have been since I was 5 - that was 45 years ago. So I try not to be too active in threads like this because I support a diddy club and whilst I could contribute lots, I prefer to stick to the diddy club forums as I can't be bothered with put-down retorts such as "Team - Dumbarton" which I've suffered from in the past. Not looking for sympathy but that's why I rarely post here, I prefer to enjoy the intrigue. Oh, and cheers for the greenie.

  27. Well said. Several alleged Yorkshire-based Kilmarnock/The Rangers fans are spoiling this wonderful thread with their constant, non-topic whingeing and tit-for-tat point scoring. I reckon that we would be at page 2000 if it wasn't for their "contributions". Having read every page since Pozbaird opened up the best thread on here ever, the three Amigos and the White Rose Killie guy have ruined what was once a masterpiece of non-professional journalism, great debate, massive intrigue, and generally just enjoying the chess-like moves of the various shysters involved in the plot. It has almost been turned into a personal battlefield for these four characters. Dhenboy isn't much better either IMHO. It's becoming as bad as the Celtic v Rangers, Rangers v Celtic Sub-section, ie, a pile of keech.

  29. I remember we were playing Dundee Utd at Love Street and Derek was walking up the slope towards the North Bank at the same time as me. For some reason there were both St. Mirren and Dundee Utd mascots that day and they were getting asked the usual questions about who's your favourite player, etc. Anyway, it gets to the Utd mascot and he's asked what he thinks the score will be, to which he answers "2-1 to Utd". Derek went absolutely mental shouting "NAW IT F*CKIN WILNAE YA WEE F*CKIN PR*CK, WE'RE GONNAE PUMP YOU C*NTS!" He's not just Saints daft, but also just plain daft.

  31. 18= Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip Angles (2008) Coming straight outta Essex, the cult of Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip is an ever growing force, a word of mouth success that deserves a greater audience. Rapper/poet/singer Scroobius Pip delivers an ever fascinating and compelling flow of consciousness over the tapestry of beats, sounds and hooks provided by producer Dan Le Sac, and on this debut album it all comes together to form a hugely exciting and varied collection of tracks. For a nominal hip-hop band, the pair have struggled to make the breakthrough with the purist audience the genre often attracts. An MC named after an Edward Lear poem was perhaps never likely to appeal to those weaned on the hollow subject matter of much of modern rap, but that's their loss. Whether name-checking Herbie Hancock and rapping about the periodic table on Development, or offering up genuinely touching views on self-harm and suicide on The Magician's Assistant, Scroobius Pip is the perfect guide through the record. Dan Le Sac's productions share top billing throughout though, combining endless sounds and ideas that help make this a genre-hopping experience that still all sits neatly together. It combines electronic programming and live instrumentation, a mosaic of colourful shifting musical themes. The head nodding beats and stuttering breakdown of Rapper's Battle, pulsing synth of the title track, and chilling piano lines of stunning climax Waiting For The Beat To Kick In are just some of the highlights on an album that's packed full of them. Musically the whole album has an endearing anything goes attitude - Radiohead's Planet Telex is chopped to great effect alongside acidic bleeps on Letter From God To Man, and Dizzee Rascal's Fix Up Look Sharp is mangled and stretched beneath interchanging rock guitar and synth riffs on Fixed, while elsewhere there are seemingly inexhaustible twists and turns through a maze of colourful motifs. Angles is an exciting and always fresh sounding experience that deserves wider recognition - a great discovery sitting here among other more celebrated albums.

As far as content goes, I'm not up on these things, but would I be correct in suggesting the aperitif of choice on the table appears to be something akin to a Vodka & Red Bull combo? If so, then I'd surmise the rather unusual colour and texture of the offending party's regurgitations can be explained by observing what happens when you pour Vodka & Red Bull into a pre-existing liquid of the colour and consistency of Real Ale. Lassie's obviously a CAMRA member who has been dragged out of the more familiar surroundings of her local, then plied with effeminate sugary nonsense on top of the 12 pints of Skullsplitter she's sunk since lunchtime. 39. Another great bit of PR. We might as well just go the whole way and rename Palmerston as Lesser Ibrox. This club has an identity and tradition all of it's own, and it certainly needs no further associations with either half of the Old Firm. To choose Goram over and above George Farm and Barney Davidson shows, at best, a distinctly shoddy grasp of the history of Queen of the South FC. First there was the Sevco SFL vote, and now there are murals of a Rangers legend on the (Derry?) walls of our stadium. Whilst I appreciate SD's comment about the Board having nothing to do with the artworks, I fear this won't be the last Rangers love-in at Palmerston so long as Robertson is onboard.

  42. OK the cardigan has returned to Mordhor ! I personally think he is there to help keep the skeletons in the cupboards from the EBT fiasco that killed the 1872 club. Walter fully knows about how the EBT scam was setup and knows where the trails end up with.He will be sure to be one off them. He had an EBT account set up but didn't use it but that does not say he is a stand up guy simply because the intent was there to use one eventually.Possible future payments but the impending HMRC case against the club may have scared him off taking an EBT loan ?. Walter is probably up to his neck by using EBT's to help sign players during his 2 tenures at Ibrox and could lead to some pretty difficult questions in court he may not want to answer

  43. Excellent piece from corsicacharity TSFM I think it fairly clear that, with the return of Smith to join the board of the new club, the end of the play is nigh… To be absolutely clear, even as a non-executive director, he is still fully and legally responsible for all the goings-on down Ibrox way from now on. Non-executive just means he has no involvement in the day-to-day running of business but does monitor the executive (ie, officers). Non-executive directors’ responsibilities are generally accepted as (and are effectively codified in governance codes): - constructively challenging and contributing to the development of strategy. - scrutinising the performance of management in meeting agreed goals and objectives and monitoring and where necessary removing senior management, and in succession planning. - ensuring financial information is accurate and that financial controls and systems of risk management are robust and defensible. - determining appropriate levels of remuneration of executive directors and appointing/removing senior management. Take note messrs Greig, G Smith, et al – the “ah didnae know anything” defence doesn’t wash. There is absolutely no institutional interest whatsoever in the IPO (do you think anyone could take Green seriously as the CEO of a plc?). Not a single football club has had a successful institutional investment and the City knows this. They learned their lesson a long time ago. Seriously, it is not even being discussed in the City and the only hope for Green is that enough fans take up the offer which is why Smith has been “persuaded” to come in. It’s the last throw of a desperate man and it’s pretty obvious Smith knows this… Two possible outcomes: 1. the IPO bombs and sevco go into administration and are bought out by new knights in shiny armour. 2. sevco fans take up the IPO and administration is staved off…however, I would fully expect Green to ride off into the sunset having “saved Rangers” to seek out new challenges. Share ownership will coalesce in the hands of a small group of wealthy “Rangers-minded” individuals and everyone (apart from the internet bampots) will pretend that nothing bad ever happened. Whatever happens now, there will be a team playing out of Ibrox in blue calling themselves Rangers and laying claim to 140 years’ of history (except the bad bits of course which didn’t really happen except in some timmy conspiracy alternative parallel universe).
