  1. Many football supporters were active in this forum as Rangers crumbled under Murray and then Whyte, Then through the attempts to crowbar them back into the SPL, with relative success as Sevco had to scam their way into Division 3. A price for their previous bullying and intimidation but still needed amazing courage from some individuals who showed real character when needed. I and many others 'retired' from the campaign. But today's article by Alex Thomson http://blogs.channel...ngers-fans/2873 is a welcome reminder of the cancer that is Rangers. A cancer we tolerate and as Thomson complains is tolerated by many with more power than we do. Not least the police. With people like Green and McCoist in charge we know the way ahead will not be based on honesty, integrity and definitely no humility A club that wants to play to its own made up rules, while trying hard to ignore the rules everyone else adheres to. This is the club who scammed the taxman (= the UK public), who lied and cheated, and has a large proportion of thugs and louts amongst their support. All their protestations of loyalty to Queen and country we know is a complete sham. A web of deceit but a version that suited them as they ignored the laws and bullied their way through Scottish football. We must never forget how corrupting they are, and with regular reminders it is important to keep the pressure on those who are tempted to show sympathy and support to them, especially Government, the SFA, and EUFA. They should have no place in sport or Scottish football, and the work has to continue to remove this cancer from our midst.

  2. Rangers fans accusing Alex Thomson of having a diseased mind His blog article sums the situation up nicely. You put yourself in mortal danger by standing up for what's right in this sorry affair. There has been criticism of Regan, Doncaster etc and justifiably so as they have shown pretty poor leadership in all this but if you consider what could happen to them and theirs if they had done what they should've then I think most of the critics are showing more than a bit of hypocrisy. Scottish Football needs strong leadership and ultimately it has spineless middle managers and Old Firm minded representatives. In other words a fertile breeding ground for corruption.

  6. I'm 100% with Frascoigne on this one. It wasn't just the board's decision to vote in favour of the club formerly known as Rangers, it was their contemptuous disregard for the opinions of the fans and Robertson's lack of grace after the fact. His so-called "apology" was half-hearted at best and his attempt to marginalise the "vocal minority" by claiming that the board was merely reflecting the views of the "silent majority" was an example of ex post facto justification of the most disingenuous kind. He'd already given notice of his divide and conquer mentality with his characterisation of certain life-long supporters as not "true fans", just one of the insightful gems culled from that repository of wisdom known as "Mark's Blog." The team's current good form is a matter of little consequence to me, about as relevant as Gillingham's strong start in League 2 down south: it's just not my club any more. Robertson made that very clear by his actions and pronouncements. The club, as it's presently constituted, doesn't reflect me, my views or my principles. Queen of the South is a nostalgic memory for me now, nothing more. The bond has been broken and comprehensive victories over Arbroath, Alloa, Albion Rovers et al are never going to be substantial enough to repair the damage. I wish the Trust well in their efforts.

  7. Not your finest hour on here JR. You shared much of Frascoigne's disgust at the decision at the time. The fact that you've put it behind you, ably assisted by an impressively performing team, does not render his take silly or malicious. I hope Frascoigne is back at some point, but it'll be on his terms. There's actually something impressive in that.

  8. Don't mind if i answer that do you? As a Rangers fan i'm not 100% comfortable that Green is in charge especially after the Whyte fiasco. I'm well aware that he is playing to the mindset of many fans to get them onside but to be honest the ST sales are not indictive of the backing towards Green, more towards backing the club to ensure the club carried on. Until i read the full prospectus on the flotation and have more knowledge as to who the main investors are then i'll be holding back in buying into the issue before i make any decision. After losing shares and debenture bonds under the plc then i'll be taking in all relevant information before deciding.

  10. A question I can't work out the answer to.., How could there have been such a massive difference in the financial operations of 2 similar football teams, with a similar sized stadium and similar sized crowds? In rangers and Celtic. It's a question that I keep asking myself, but can't work out. For nearly 25 years, rangers used different forms of financially assistance. They benefited from endless loans from the bank, endless loans from MIM. They benifited financially when all clubs were upgrading or rebuilding their stadia. Other clubs effectively gave money to MIM, which went to rangers to buy other teams best players. Then later they would benefit from tax dodging dual contracts. So in those 25 years, while all this was going on... How can it be that comparatively, success was shared with Celtic, yet Celtic are one of the most financially well run clubs you will find! I really can't understand, how the hell rangers could have spent so much more money than their closest rival, to basically, be on par with them? Which leads me to the future... People believe that The Rangers will compete with Celtic, as rangers did before, that what we saw over the last 25 years will return.., but how can it? The only way rangers could compete with Celtic was to financially cheat for 25 years... How can they possible compete in the future, without gross financial assistance? Or is it the case that they will compete, at a level we are seeing SPL teams compete this season? You know the way? It looks like it could be an even fight, a close run thing, but Celtic will probably edge it out of a pack of 4 or 5? Will the rangers, just be one of the pack of 5? That is.., if the survive, and if they are run properly.

  13. Good to know, that's happened to me regularly after games since I've moved to the Port and I always just stick an arm up without having a clue who's passed me. No problem, I will be doing the same and also cunningly concealing a 20 foot effigy of Craig Levein which will be burned at the end of the night. Anyway, I have big news: Scottish Football's Angriest Fan will be joining us. I assure you, he does not berate bar staff as he does referees over minor decisions.

  14. Right now i'm not putting that much money in, i never renewed my season ticket and i'm going on a game to basis this season. It's a no win situation for a lot of bears in if you don't go to games the club/team suffers -- damned if you and damned if you don't. Which a lot of non Rangers fans mistook for falling for Greens sales pitches. He's playing to the galleries and taking the salesman role too far, if he'd tone it down a bit he'd get more respect. No one that i know expects him to fulfil most of his promises, cut away the jargon and we know that theres a long hard slog still ahead. As it stands right now most bears will not be participating in this issue until we get satisfactory guarantees over how much money will go to the team and a full business plan. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on share issues but if it's dodgy then myself and others will be quick in speaking out.

  16. Oh dear! You're about 6 months too late to be accusing us all of being obsessed and have leanings towards your neighbours across the city. Its your attitude that makes the vast majority of us hope your club dies and never resurrects. Arrogance, Whataboutery and abuse of anyone who questions your "great" leaders decisions in the past and even now in the present has led this thread to continue and if that makes us all obsessed then put the badge on me. Happy to help.

  21. Questor share tips: Avoid Rangers like prune juice, for now By Jamie Dunkley | Telegraph Rangers Football Club Yet to price Questor says Avoid Sir Alan Sugar once claimed that football was governed by “prune juice economics” money comes in at one end and goes out of the other before it can be properly digested. The former owner of Tottenham Hotspur (Berlin: TTN.BE -news) warned the beautiful game was spiralling out of control and insisted that extravagant player wages and agents’ fees would send clubs across Britain into ruin. Rangers Football Club is a perfect example of this, collapsing in June after years of profligate spending. The company, which went into administration owing about £134m to creditors, was bought by a consortium led by businessman Charles Green and now plans to raise up to £20m by listing 50pc to 60pc of its shares on the London Stock Exchange. Football clubs are typically poor investments and struggle to make profits and pay dividends. Because of this, Questor has always advised investors to steer clear if you want exposure to football buy a season ticket or a subscription to Sky Sports or ESPN. You’ll almost certainly get more reward. Only Arsenal and Celtic (LSE: CCP.L - news) are now listed in the UK, with Manchester United making an unspectacular return to the public markets when it listed on the New York Stock Exchange in August. In Rangers’ defence, it is important to note that the company’s IPO prospectus is unlikely to be published until the end of the month. Mr Green believes this will provide a compelling case for investors and claims City investors are already interested in backing the club. Administration means the company is now debt free. The football club owns its 51,000-seater Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow and the nearby 38-acre Murray Park training ground and plans to develop this land over the coming years. Not only this, but with 36,000 season-ticket holders and an estimated fan base of 5m people, revenue streams should not be too hard to find. Relegation to the fourth tier of Scottish football means that players’ wages stand at about 30pc of turnover, compared with local rival Celtic, which spends about 60pc of its turnover on wages, according to Rangers. Questor is not about to break the habit of a lifetime and suggest retail investors start ploughing their hard-earned cash into football clubs. The club’s IPO could provide fans and ambitious investors with the chance to bankroll the revival of one of Britain’s most famous clubs. Mr Green has even talked about paying dividends. But for now, Questor remains bearish on Rangers. Football is a bit like prune juice after all. Not sure if posted already......sounds like a winner !

  24. ....and further joyous reception for a football club trying to out bullshit professional bullshitters.... (source Reuters Financial) INVESTORS ONSIDE? Justin Urquhart Stewart, of Seven Investment Management, said that Rangers fans should be wary. "Investment is not about emotion. Fans should only invest in things where they think there is a sound return, not the emotional love of their club," he said. "They should buy the scarf, drink the beer, but don't buy the shares." Green admitted that there are no institutional investors on side yet, but that he has several lined up. Fans, meanwhile, seem to be behind the plan, despite many of them losing their investment in the old club only a few months ago. "I think the fans will accept this, and that can only be a good thing. Whether they will reach to 20 million (pounds) or not I don't know, but the potential is there," John Macmillan, General Secretary of the Rangers Supporters Association, told Reuters. Rangers began the season as overwhelming favourites to win promotion but have struggled for consistency away from home, slipping to third in the table. Speaking at the Leaders in Football business conference in London, Scottish Premier League Chief Executive Neil Doncaster said that other clubs had adjusted quickly to Rangers' absence and that its financial backers had continued to give their support. "I think people sounding the death knell for Scottish football were acting a bit hastily," he said. "What happened to Rangers is a lesson for all of us."

  25. [1] did Green establish what the money will be spent on - and why it's being raised now (which everyone seems to agree is unexpectedly early)? Running costs (rates, maintenance, taxes, insurance, policing, stewarding, ambulance service, etc, etc) of Ibrox Stadium and Murray Park, Player purchases and wages and Green & Co's wages and bonuses. [2] what happens if the full £20M worth isn't sold? They will have to move to new homes. [3] what has made the club's value increase 5 or 6 times over since he bought it at the start of the summer? It hasn't. A company/club has to be profitable to have real value for both big and small-time investors to profit financially. We all know why Rangers face imminent liquidation. Well over £150million debts = Not profitable. If Rangers were worth any real value multi-millionaire investors would have been queuing up and bidding to buy the club before Whyte bought them for £1 and again when Green bought them for £2. [4] what power will purchasers of the shares have - if he's valuing them at £25-30M does that mean they'd have a majority? No power - Worthless pieces of paper, worth less than bogroll. Small minority. [5] what's the deal with the "2 years worth of season tickets" and "European Superleague" stuff? Usual shyster bullshit. No problem.

  26. He's not obsessing at all. He is simply taking a pricipled stance and should be respected for that. Unlike Frascoigne, however, I do not have the backbone to walk away and have been swept along with the euphoria of Johnston's babes doing the business on the pitch. As for a fans representative on the Board, I am fully behind the idea. A lot still needs to be done to repair the relationship between the Board and the fans and it could be a step in the right direction.

  27. Now that it looks as if another Highwayman is robbing Rangers will their fans finally wake up and show some balls and ask questions? I believe not! Even some of their fans on P&B, who I thought reasonable have pulled down the WATP blind and don't WANT to see the truth. They are watching through open fingers trying to convince themselves that it is all going to go away and nanny(Mr Green) will make the bad things disappear. Although I have a deep loathing for Rangers, I actually thought that there might be a sea change at the club, with some contrition and humility emanating from them, and a rebuilding of Scottish football!. How deluded was I?.They have got progressively worse, have deliberately tried to drag the rest of Scottish football with.them, with their scorched earth policy! Well now its been shown that Scottish football candy and WILL survive without them, they las out even more. The only favour we got out of them was the confirmation that,as suspected by us DIDDY club fans for years,is that Scottish football is CORRUPT to the core!. Thankfully we have reasoned and insightful posters on here who have opened our eyes as to how deep that corruption runs. If Rangers survive it.will be on a level of a DIDDY club. Your fan base will melt away as you won't.have the.elixir of success that you were weaned on.Personally, I hope you die.It will of great service to football and society as a whole.

  32. This could be the most significant sentence :- " Playing at the 51,000 seater Ibrox Stadium, which is Scotland's only UEFA elite club stadium, and benefiting from the world class 38 acre Murray Park training facility, the Club has been a major force in Scottish football for decades." Not because of what it says but because of what it does not say. If they are trying to entice investors would it not be a major selling point to highlight Ibrox and Murray Park as valuable assets of the company, rather than merely mentioning them as the stadium they play in and facilities they benefit from the use of?

  38. Can't say that i am but right now theres not much i can do about it. The general opinion on the share issue is that until Green proves that the club will benefit then he won't get a penny from most fans. A lot of people confused fans buying season tickets/match day tickets as to trusting Green 100% which isn't the case.

  41. Thats not the point, it's common courtesy that people lack. I certainly would not go into a shop 10 minutes before it shut and fanny about for 5 minutes before i decided to buy something or look at loads of stuff and walk out 20 minutes later without even buying anything. I understand that these workers have things to do and places to go, i just wish more folk would realise that. The worst offenders are the ones that come in with a car boot full of shopping. Asda - open 24 hrs on a saturday. My work - open 8-12 on a saturday. The general public are idiots at times.

  42. I had high hopes when Thomson started reporting on Rangers and Scottish football. The guy has serious credentials and I welcomed his reportage. However, he has made a total baws of it - and this blog post just shows what a fanny he has turned in to. It's a simple diatribe without citation, evidence or substance. The context to that abortion of a blog post is this: Thomson wrote a foreword to Phil The Social Worker's book which was due to be serialised in The Sun. Phil The Social Worker is an anti-Scots racist (despite being Scots). When this was pointed out to The Sun they pulled the serialisation. Thommo was left looking like a total idiot. Now when things go wrong for you there are two options: 1. Accept that you were ill-advised and apologise. 2. Start blaming everyone else. Sadly Thommo has chosen the latter option, hence this blog post that my 12 year old son could have written better. I had high hopes of Alex Thomson. I welcomed an independent voice. To my chagrin he's nothing more than a vain blow-hard.
