In Financial Armageddon!!!!11! news, I see that Motherwell's main sponsor has just extended our deal to the end of 2013/2014. They must be utterly mad to do that in a league without Rangers - I hope Jim Traynor can get a hold of them and tell them the error of their ways before the paperwork is signed!

Behave yourself. There was no appetite in Scottish football to completely destroy its most successful team and nor should there have been. I hate Rangers as much as the next man but it would have been vindictive in the extreme to deliberately bury them forever (as much as we might all have enjoyed that outcome). Their crimes are serious and I'm sure there's more punishment to come but I think we need to retain a little bit of perspective here. The reason we hate them (the bigotry, the arrogance, the bully boy tactics) are not related to the current situation and it would be unfair to punish them for the sin of being generally offensive and obnoxious. The last company folded. This new company are trying to keep the football team alive. They've been granted some special dispensation in order to do that but, equally, they have been told that they must also bear some special sanctions if they want to retain the link with the old club. Personally, I think the outcome is entirely fair and proportionate, certainly far more just than what could have been foisted upon us.

This thread should be dumped in the third division forum in the interests of sporting integrity!!! It's only being left here to pander to the rich kids of the SPL. A thread about any other club in similar circumstances would have been relegated without another thought We need to mobilise if it's not and organise a boycott of Pie and Bovril. Who is this guy Div anyway? If its not moved we should all walk away from Scottish football for good!

Ha ha, you said currant! Seriously, do you think anyone just turned round in the last few weeks/months and said "D'ye know, I've just decided I hate rangers"? I have hated rangers since the day I was told that I was less than "the peepul" simply because of the school I went to. I turned away from the other Ugly Sister at the same time - even at five years old, I didn't want to be one of the "with us or against us" brigade. Obviously I couldn't articulate why at that age, but some things just always seem wrong. My team have seen years of famine and years of relative feats, but they've always been a FOOTBALL club - nothing more, nothing less. As I grew up and matured, it became more and more obvious I had made the right choice. The only Scottish grounds where I have felt in real fear were the temples of bigotry. The only violence I suffered at a football match was when rangers visited RP. Outside of my personal experience, rangers continued to spread shame whenever they left our borders - even for so-called "friendly" matches. How many football fans would choose to riot on the night their team won their biggest trophy? In my youth, to be honest, the green Sisters appeared to be better ambassadors for our country - although the bar was set pretty damn low. The celtic of my youth were, in all honesty, an exciting team to watch and their fans (bar the eedjits who followed EVERY team in those days) appeared to enjoy themselves on their travels rather than treat away trips as invasions of enemy territory. In recent years, things have taken a turn for the worse. Both celtic and rangers have built their joint enterprise on an encouragement of bigotry - for all the lip service paid to "initiatives" and "campaigns", they both knew where the money was. Yes, both. From joint statements of their intent to leave Scottish football, to the decades of joint sponsorship deals, their relationship is one of incestuous self-interest. The best hope for Scotland is that, even if it does not deservedly die, the blue half will be far enough removed from their green partners for long enough that both their acolytes may start to follow their sides for footballing reasons or, in the case of the "minorities", drift away from the game in confusion, not knowing who they're supposed to hate anymore. It won't stop sectarianism in Scotland, but it will dim the two biggest beacons which attract the scum.

Heard a rumour that the SFL are looking at imposing some sort of handicap system on the 3rd Division this season. They fear that many games will be overly one sided, making the league an embarrasment, especially now it will be televised. For that reason in each match they are going to give SEVCO 3 goals of a start...

C'mon guys, a little perspective here. People were panicking that they would sneak back into the SPL not too long ago. Then it looked that they would be jammed into the first... Didn't happen. After the court of sessions the disrepute charge was going to turn into a mere cup ban - again, didn't happen. If you all were told in February that Rangers would be playing in the Third with only a month in which to build a squad using an SPL focused scouting team to identify SFL players to be acquired with very shaky finances before a two window transfer ban kicked in you wouldn't have believed it. I certainly wouldn't have. They may very well die off the pitch due to running costs and Investor problems. They may very well struggle on the pitch. Regardless, their liquidation and comprehensive humiliation is a fact and won't change.

I've commented a few times that I don't know if I really accept Sevco as being Rangers. My views tend to change on a day to day basis, but my overriding feeling at the moment is that it's little more than a cynical commercial venture that will likely pander to the lowest common denominator of the support to keep the money rolling in. I like to think I'm a pretty objective person - I don't often let emotion override the facts - and I'm not naive enough to think the argument that Rangers are dead has no merit. In the same way, I can see Sevco as having the right to claim itself as a "spiritual successor", which fans may quite legitimately choose to affiliate themselves with or not as the case may be. I won't criticise anyone for taking either option. In 50 years, people will see Sevco as Rangers in much the same way as Hibernian today are credited with the 1887 Scottish Cup, despite being disbanded and then reformed in the interim period. My love for football is still strong though. I'll certainly continue going to matches (to contradict what I said above, I am really looking forward to watching the Queens Park games), but I'm going to take the opportunity to sample the atmosphere of some of my local clubs also. I'll need to feel my way into the season... In short, I'll be going to watch the football as per usual... but possibly not always at Ibrox.

The football team has been denied entry into the SPL and the First Division and has been hit with a significant sporting sanction, with more to come. The company has been wound up and the assets have been sold off to pay the creditors. You're all over the place. Who is your problem with: the business or the team? The sins were largely committed by the business and that business is dead. The team benefitted from those sins and are being punished accordingly. Let's say it was Motherwell, or Dundee or St. Mirren who had committed these financial sins - would there really have been such an appetitie for their absolute destruction?

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the embargo, I think it's pretty scandalous that they're allowed to transfer the old membership. If a club's liquidated, the membership should go with them. A new membership should be the only option for phoenix clubs.

If East Fife can win at Pittodrie I'm sure they can take care of Sevco.

I no longer support Falkirk, so a "yes" vote doesn't really bother me. I will be going to some Clyde and Raith games this season... I couldn't and wouldn't give any money to any SFL club which voted to allow Sevco into Division One.

Had a read of that thread but I had to stop when I read one Orc giving his preference: "Accies away. Stadium is just behind my house. Would be good to take my 6 year old to her first ever game to see the Rangers." There are about 6 different things to get annoyed about in that short statement: 1. Not supporting his local team. 2. Not supporting his local team even though he lives right next to the fucking stadium. 3. He probably lives in the Whitehill area of Hamilton; the place that time forgot. 4. He is going to get his poor daughter into supporting Rangers, instead of taking her to see Accies. 5. He refers to the team as "The" Rangers. 6. They aren't called Rangers anymore.
