Betting Tips Week 21
Celtic gained a huge win over Rangers during the week making it nine wins in a row for Neil Lennon’s side. During that nine game winning run Celtic have gained eleven points on Rangers and now move top of the SPL and become favourites to wrestle back the title from Ibrox, Celtic are now just 2/5 despite holding just a two point lead whilst Rangers are available at 11/5.
The bookies clearly feel that momentum is extremely important in a successful team and whilst backing teams in good form against teams in bad form can throw up some losers, as is the nature of football, it is a strategy that should pay in the long term, especially if the prices aren’t too short. One team with a bit of momentum at the moment is Hearts, it seems getting paid can make a big difference to a team’s performances and after two wins and a draw from three games Hearts look in very decent form. On Monday they travel to Hibernian to face a largely out of form team who has managed just one point from their last five league matches. Previous meetings show that Hearts tend to do well at Hibs, they have won two and drawn one from the last three meetings and 7/5 looks a very fair price on the away side.

Another in form side at the moment is Dundee United, they face Aberdeen on Monday and are available at odds against which is a bit of a surprise. Perhaps it’s the fact that United have drawn three of their last six games that has the bookies thinking they might struggle to win this one but nine points from six games is a good return for the Arabs and they should be expected to justify their odds of 6/5 against a team who has just four points from their last six away matches. Dundee United have won their last two home meetings against Aberdeen 3-1 proving their superiority and the home side should be backed to win this one.
Dropping down two divisions there should be a very good bet in the match between Airdrie and Albion Rovers. With both teams in good form picking the winner will be pretty difficult, we don’t have to worry about that though as over 2.5 goals looks a standout bet in this fixture at odds of 8/11 at the time of writing. These are the two highest scoring teams in the league at the moment, both sides have scored seventeen goals in their last six matches whilst Airdrie have conceded fourteen during that period whilst Albion Rovers have conceded eleven. With both teams scoring and conceding plenty this has the makings of an extremely high scoring match, seven of Airdrie’s last eight games have contained over 2.5 goals whilst five of Albion’s last six have had over 2.5 goals.
