I like the John McCririck entry.
I somehow knew that this contemptable little chunt would be on the list:
26. Tim Lovejoy (Chelsea)
“TV personality” who used to support Watford but now hangs out at Stamford Bridge. Responsible for writing one of the worst books in the history of publishing. “Lovejoy on Football” prompted one reviewer on amazon to write: “As Ally Ross of The Sun pointed out, there are 38 pictures of Lovejoy in this book, eight more than Nelson Mandela used in his autobiography.”

One of the list is Ricky Hatton.
How can he be one of the fifty worst fans to have?
Id have said a hard as f**k boxing world champion would be a good edition to your support.

How come there is no Roy Keane (Celtic &/or Spurs, depending who he is talking to)
The guy is a walking joke of a human being, with no social skills and no personality, so surely he must be in the list.

If I followed Watford, I to would be ashamed to admit it.

42. Wayne Rooney (Everton)
Not really a celebrity fan, but he is in OK! every week and he grew up supporting Everton. Also used to love wearing his “Once a blue, always a blue” T-shirt at Goodison Park before he jumped at the chance to join Manchester United at the first possible opportunity
But yet he kisses the Man Utd badge

Here are a couple of my favourites:
Gary Rhodes
Look at me, I can cook. Look at me, I’ve got spiky hair. Look at me, I own lots of restaurants. Look at me, I support Manchester United. Look at me, I use lots of butter and mustard. Go away
Hugh Grant
Posh, handsome, plummy leading man who has been playing the same role in every film he has starred in since 1438. Almost as boring and predictable as Fulham were under Lawrie Sanchez.

I note instead that you follow Leeds, thats Leeds the club that the Home Office has just revealed have the worst behaved fans in England.

I can't believe this was in The Times!
What a shit list by the way. Fair enough put the wankers on the list who say they support a team because its the 'cool' thing to do, but why put people like Pete Docherty on? He stood outside Loftus Road selling fanzines and stuff. There are loads of genuine fans on that list.

No 7: Zeljko 'Arkan' Raznatovic
That's stretching the definition of 'celebrity' surely?

Well, it's just a thought, and I may be well off base here so bear with me, but do you think it might just be because he's a contemptible arsehole drug addict with a string of criminal convictions behind him? I'd say the term "wan
ker" and a picture of Pete Docherty are fairly interchangeable to be honest.
Here to help.

Though to be fair I agree with your general point. There ARE loads of genuine fans on the list who don't deserve the sort of derision aimed at them (at least not for their footballing loyalties anyway).
Is the point of the list who is the biggest w****r or who are the worst quote unquote fans. Lovejoy is clearly a glory hunter and they make that clear in the caption for him, but if they are talking about real supporters then Doherty shouldn't be there.
Of course it appeases the Ofcom crowd who have nothing better to do with their time who have unhealthy hatred fr people who they don't even know but in reality the guy is absolute die hard QPR.

As I read it, the article doesn't specify. Just generally the 50 most embarrassing to be associated with (which is why I'm confused as to why the Proclaimers aren't there).
As to your second paragraph, as someone who grew up in an area with a fairly bad drug problem, I find people like Doherty offensive. That he's famous is neither here nor there.
I don't really understand why people can be offended by a person who they have never met, will never meet, know nothing about (apart from what they read in shit newspapers) and who in general isn't affected by said person in any way and will never be affected by them.
Fair play though.

Where do you draw the line with that? Obviously it's hardly on the same scale, but I've never met Myra Hindley or Ian Huntley, doesn't stop them being offensive.
As I said, I'm using an extreme example here and it's not like he's as bad as them (obviously), but I generally just find well off smackheads (all smackheads, actually) very offensive.

Top one's a fair point. I'm willing to guess they aren't nice people though mainly because they have killed other human beings whereas I don't think Mr Doherty has done this.

He is however frequently pictured in the papers indulging in some kind of serious drug abuse and on one particularly spectacular occasion injecting a fix into an unconscious girl on a bathroom floor.
All credit to him for being a genuine QPR fan (though there are plenty of other people on the list who are genuine fans of clubs rather than point and laugh bandwagon jumpers) but he's clearly a fairly odious human being. Not for one minute would I bracket him with the Huntley's and Hindley's of the world but neither should he particularly be presumed a "nice" person.

Yeah - as I said, they were extreme examples. What I was getting at was that we live in a judgemental world, I don't see why you'd have to be directly affected by someone's behaviour to find it offensive.
I don't mind people who just to recreational drugs (it'd be hypocritcal for a start, I have myself in the past), but total jakeballs like him really do my nut in.

what a sad man you are!he's one of the most well spoken managers in england, the members of the refs association voted him 2nd easiest manager to deal with (behind southgate) and the majority of journalists would say his press conferences are lot more enjoyable than your averages managers as he relies a lot less on cliches than the rest. and he grew up a spurs fan ,said so in his book and that his affection for celtic came later when he used to go to matches at cp with friends from manchester that were celtic fans.
