Peebles FC would like to pay tribute through this forum to Ali, who sadly died on Monday while serving his country in Afganistan. When off duty Ali was a keen squad player for Peebles, strong Centre Half, typical soldier, always got stuck in. He actually played in goal for Peebles before leaving for Afghanistan, very versatile guy ! Our thoughts go out to his family, his fiancee and baby at this time.

Alec was a fantastic lad well liked by everyone, I remember during pre season 06/07 Alec would often travel from his army base in Arbroath two nights a week to make training. My thoughts go out to all his family at this sad time.

Ally played for us this season. Only knew him for about 4 months but he was a great guy and he always gave 110% at training and in the games and was a good commanding centre half. I'll Always remember the banter Ally and the guys had in the bus goin down to Dalbeattie and his goalkeeping display against Lothian Thistle. Everyone at the club is devastated by this news and he will be sadly missed by all of the boys at Peebles FC. Thoughts r with the family

Saturday's game against Heriot Watt has been cancelled as a mark of respect.

Another young lad, to whom we owe a debt of gratitude.
R.I.P. brave young man.

Alec was a squad player with Vale a number of seasons ago, making occasional appearances from the bench and also played for Leithen Rovers in the BAL, before he went to Peebles. Remember him being a good guy to have around who kept the banter going in the dressing room and obviously, being a serviceman, he was in no way lacking in his fitness. An unfortunate reminder that while the number of casualties from the trouble spots of the world are presented as mere statistics on the news, each loss is an individual and has a profound affect on family, friends, clubs and organisations. RIP.

R.I.P. What a tragedy.
