Notice on the Stranraer website that their reserves lost 5-0 at home to Stennie Reserves in the Reserve League Cup. Considering Stranraer Res are top of the SoSL I'm surprised they would get beaten so easily. It was only a couple of years ago that Stennie's first team lost to Threave so their reserves beating the table toppers looks a suprise to me. Not a great advert for the league sad.gif

Team: D. Leith, L. Richardson, M. Whorlow, J. Ritchie, M. Wilson, D. Dougan, R. J. Paisley, J. Kiltie, A. Murdoch, C. Bradley, R. Jones. Subs: I. Millar, G. Blane, A. McClymont, R. Cooksley, D. Crosswaithe GK.

You have to remember that Stranraer X1 has very little in the way of SFL experience tho and playing against probably a fitter and more experienced stenny side. Good for the locals to get a game against these teams tho as shows they need to work that bit harder.

Which is a large part of the purpose of a reserve team.

yes can be but purpose then and i presume now (with shortage of cash and small first team squad) is to bring on local talent to promote into first team and i believe 2 or3 are making 1st team.

Are the reserves not stronger this season BECAUSE they are playing in both leagues and are stronger in the SOS.........most reserves they play will be either pushing for SFL or coming back from injury.........south teams maybe aint that strong............

The majority of the reserve team have only played in home League cup games due to work commitments, with a mixture of trialists and first team players playing in the central belt games.
I did not see the game at Stranraer but the away game at Larbert was used to give Stennie fringe players, players returning from injury and some of their many promising youngsters a game.
Stenhousemuir were a pretty decent team up there and have an excellent youth conveyor belt of players to pick from

Was at the game it would be fair to say that the Stenny team that played would be capabile of beating any team in the South of Scotland League. Looked a young team but the passing and movement was superb and they fully deserved the win. Stranraer never realy got going only realy had one effort on goal and that was not untill the last minute. Stranraers play was pritty pridictable ball over the tio every time which was a bit disapointing to watch.
Think the Stenhousemuir performance was a credit to the strong youth set-up they have in place up there all there players looked round about nineteen bar the centre midfeilder and former Stranraer player Wullie Lyle, looks like the waster has finally found his level.

This result may not be great but again it's all expereince and shouldn't over shadow the good results the boys have had in the competition like the win against Partick Thistle and so on.
