Why do we need stewards at games?

Probably cheaper than Police.
If clubs employ a larger number of stewards, Plod can deploy fewer officers.
Otherwise i dont know. They dont do much else.

The only thing I have seen stewards do is stand and do nothing, wind up fans and tell folk to sit down.
Completley pointless. Although I suppose they are just for 'show'. ie some folk will see a steward and maybe not do something which could get them in trouble.
