Thisguy surely isn't management material. If you were a player you would not be able to take him seriously with his comic nose, odd way of talking and his weird twitching. There seems to be something not quite wired up correctly with him. He has the look of the boy in your street who doesn't go to the same school as you because he has a mental age of four.
He comes across as a right idiot in his post match interviews. Notice he cannot make eye contact and stares at his shoes for much of the chat - you've got to question the wisdom of Portsmouth appointing this goon as manager. Any fool could see that he is one of those good player/shit manager types.

Quite possibly so, but he most certainly isn't an idiot, as the original poster suggested.

Be very careful! Have you not seen H_B flailing away on the Owen Coyle thread? Anyway, are you one of those folk that thinks you can judge a manager in 3 games? Seems a little harsh.

I was amazed, given the choice of Tony Adams or Joe Jordan as next manager Portsmouth chose Adams. I think Jordan has the making of an excellent manager, infact he'd be my choice for Scotland manager after Burley.
Adams looks out of his depth already and just doesnt look like a manager, somehow, like in the way he comes accross.

I still think that he could turn things around, but his appearance is totally comic. With his funny nose and hair, and a shirt and tie on underneath one of those stadium jackets, he just looks like a sad clown.

He doesn't look as bad as Tony Pulis. I would have loved to have seen him and Mourinho standing side by side on the touchline, with Jose in his Armani suit, and Tony with his trackie bottoms with the drawstring hanging out of them.
Adams is fighting a losing battle at Portsmouth. There is no way he could be more successful than Redknapp, so whatever he does is likely to be viewed as a failure. His track record isn't great, so it was surprising to see him get the job. Perhaps the board needed a yes-man who wouldn't kick up a fuss when they sell lots of players in January.

Adams has already came out and stated if Portsmouth try and sell players behind his back during the transfer window then he's off. It wasn't that much of a shock appointment to me. He has served his apprenticeship under Redknapp. Give the man a chance. You could find a fault with every premiership manager in giving an interview. People bang on about how dull Adams is. Any interview I've saw him in he seems an honest guy who likes a joke. Even saw him joking in an interview the other day that he only appointed his assistant so he wouldn't go after his job - great crack!.

Its not exactly an easy job he's doing - and its not as if Harry R didn't struggle with them at one point. I really don't think he'll last long at all, whether he decides to leave or he's told I don't know but I think despite his title, he's a temporary manager.

Yeah, it's called making a prediction! Have to agree with HaP here - Adams is going to make a terrible manager - quite clearly.
Shouldn't you be away haunting some college students dormitories?

Yeh Adams is a bit of a weirdo like , I personally still think he is an alchie, really dodgy fella like.
Hear his comment that the perfect life for him would be to shut himself off with his dog and only go out to walk his dog everyday

Most football supporters judge a manager's potential by one or more of the following criteria:
1) His ability as a player
2) The amount of shouting and jumping around he does on the touchline
3) His ability to talk a good game in the media.
Yet none of those attiributes are necessarily indicative of good management material. Some of the greatest coaches of all time have been stoical or taciturn types, let their tactics and team selection do the talking. Many of the great British managers were not world beaters as players, in some cases not even international class.
Not saying that Adams will be a good boss. Just making a general observation.
I think number 3 is the most important of those criteria.
There are just some players you know will be terrible managers, for a variety of reasons. Paul Gascoigne would be one, Adams another. Paul Merson a third. Charlie Nicholas, Alan McInally.. the list is endless.
Obviously there will be the odd one who confounds you, like John Hughes, but they are the exception.

A complete and utter failiure at Wycombe so they make him an EPL manager, really strange decision.
He'll be sacked by February and Portsmouth will return to their natural place in the order of English football as a dull Championship mid-table side although considering their up for sale and in masses of debt they may be lucky to survive at all.

Yes, totally agree. Ditto Blackburn, a club that once relegated will never return to the Premiership.

Imagine the meeting of minds between Tony Adams and Paul Merson in the Arsenal days, when they were both drunken fools. That would be frightening to listen to.

1. I've worked with Tony Adams, and he's most certainly not an "alchie" (sic), or "really dodgy", and to suggest otherwise could be deemed malicious.
2. That wasn't what he said. And even if it was, it wouldn't merit those particular emoticons. The use of which devalues absolutely everything you said.
Look, I have no idea if Adams will be a success, I hope he will be, and I suspect he won't. But what we are seeing is the moment anyone in football appears to be a bit different, i.e reads a broadsheet, strings a coherent sentence together, or talks about anything other than football in a series of cliches, he automatically gets labeled weird or odd.

In this case, as someone has already said, this will end in failure for him.
There is just no way he will be able to follow in Harrys footsteps.
