I would imagine to give some of Celtic's injured players some match practise in a friendly where the tackles will not be flying in, also to put some money into the Cappielow coffers so both teams get the benefit.

Someone posted this on the Morton board:
"The Game is so the Ton can Look at Celtic players in the reserves that are surplies to requirments as they only signed 2 16 year olds full time and bundles of english clubs are offering them deals this was all due to tommy burns Passing away and Chris McCart taking over so they did not offer all the lads Full Time contracts so its just a game for players Like McGlinchey & Ferry & co to find other clubs also you will find they are playing Dundee,Livingston,St Mirren and also played Manchester Utd and Spurs in the last 2 weeks to get some players off the books to bring younger players in at Celtic"
Morton are taking the piss by charging £5 in to a glorified bounce game, probably to get the local "Celtic dollar." Season tickets are valid, though, so I'm going to head over.

We played a bounce game against St Johnstone last week. What exactly, if any, is your point caller?
Free week, work on attacking play continued and - crucially - no Cetic has-beens given the Morton shirt to wear to 'stregthen' 'any' 'bonds' between ourselves and this random Glasgow club. I can think of at least one side in this division who clearly fail as much in the criteria above as they do on the pitch.

Or charge your fans to watch it and be accused of whoring. He's right. Pot, kettle black etc.

While I'm not defending the club charging for a bounce game, I'd say there are degrees of whoring and this is at the low end of it. After all,
our fans - season ticket holders at least - are not being charged, and nor is this some unseemly festival of brotherhood with Celtic.

There is a difference between playing someone in a friendly and playing a team with former legends from said team playing for your team to boost the number of away fans. If Clyde had just played Rangers in a friendly this summer there would have been nothing wrong with it.
Sure the doors are being opened for this match, but season tickets get in free and its only because we dont have a game this week and fans might want their weekly installment of free flowing football.

No it isn't.
We are simply playing a friendly against one of the OF as, funnily enough, many clubs have without allowing former players of the OF club with no connection to ourselves play for us. Clyde were not.

The Ton Season book holders are getting in for f**k all. I'd imagin Ton fans without a book wouldn't really bother going anyway. But we all know Greenock and the Port is full of TIMberlands so they will get a fair amount of shelsuit wearing kestral lager swigging devil dog owning halfwits attending Cappielow for this game.
So at the end of the day. Yaes are just opening the doors to all the local halfwits who'll pay £5 of their Giro money to watch "their team". And Morton will have a good couple of quid at the end of it for which is just a bounce game.

Ignoring all the shite, I really hope Paul McGowan plays tonight and shows what he can do. Maybe that will convince Irons to maybe make a move for him. I think he's better than this level but right now I've not heard of any SPL clubs being interested and Strachan is clearly taking the piss by putting him on the bench occasionaly and pretending he's part of his plans just to up his value. Hopefully he realises this before he's offered another extension. I still believe we'll see him in a 'Ton shirt again at some point.
Cue the Morton fans posting about "getting over Paul McGowan." It's not that easy when he's quite clearly one of the most talented players we've had in recent years, and is not getting a game for his current club whether it's one of the OF or not.

Right on cue.
It's just not going to happen. I'd love to see him back at Cappielow as much as anyone but he's off the radar now. I know he's still not getting a chance at Parkhead, but even the friendly appearances he made in the summer put a spotlight on him that takes him beyond our reach.

Despite the 0-0 scoreline it wasn't a dreadful game. Morton started extremely well but Celtic's fitness shone through as they closed the game the stronger side.
I wouldn't say there was an especial stand-out for either side, and on that showing there are no Celtic players I'd be falling over myself to sign. However we know that some of them are capable of far better: McGowan had an absolute shocker, I thought.
Finlayson was one of our best players, and substitute Ryan Harding, amazingly, looked solid and composed.
Crowd was considerable, and, surprisingly, mainly Morton fans.
