Full Version: Alex Rae For Clyde?

Meanwhile, former boss Alex Rae has turned down the chance to get back into management with Americans Rochester Rhinos.

After leaving Dens last month, Alex quickly made it clear he wanted to stay in football and has been training with Clyde a few days a week.

Now he has been approached by the New York State-based USL team, who are looking for a coach after former Celtic man Steve Guppy quit to be assistant at MLS club Colorado Rapids.

Flattering as the offer was, Alex has decided the time is not right to uproot his family. “I have a lot of commitments in Glasgow and have young children, so I didn’t think about the American offer too deeply,” he said.

Replacing John Brown with Alex Rae would be unimaginable cruelty.

Tsk Tsk. Bad word laugh.gif

On a serious note though, can Rae offer anything to Clyde as a player? He hardly pulled on the boots at Dens in the last 18 months. Its hard for a guy at his age who's playing regularly never mind one who wont be anything close to match fit. They must be lining him up for a coaching role. I cant see Brown bringing him in when he could be Brown's replacement.

I think i've spotted Brown's grand plan.....

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that Clyde seem to be giving a job to as many ex-hunz as possible? huh.gif

Errr my point was that given he's hardly played in the last 18 months, and wont be anything like match-fit, what's he going to bring to Clyde in their current situation.

Wasnt that obvious?
Mon The Clyde
John Brown allows people to use Clyde's training facilities for their fitness, he done this last season too. No big deal.

But dont let that get in your way of your hillarious vendetta against Clyde.
BullyWeeBoy
Its more likely he will be our next boss rather than playing but please no ALAN KERNAGHAN plz biggrin.gif

Sorry mate - but you are not up to speed here. We seem to thrive on signing players that are not match fit and have not played for the last 18 months. We get a good 5 minutes out of Gary McSwegan every game, and the same last season with Jorg Albertz. Surprised we did not give Andy Gorum a five minute go.

So Alex Rae will fit into the setup perfectly in this season's convincing bid for relegation.

Do try to keep up!

1st Paragraph - hope for your sakes that's reason
2nd Paragraph - huh.gif

If he DOES get a game at least it'll give him a chance to increase his ludicrous red cards vs Thistle tally for a different club.

In the same way Morton allowed has-beens like Barry Smith to use our facilities during the Icelandic close season. There's almost always a secondary motive other than just being really really kind to washed up professionals.

Ah whoosed by sarcasm laugh.gif

Rae has proved something of an expert in bringing in hopelessly unfit players for his previous club, so im sure both his addition as a player, and his expertise will prove most valuable in this respect. I'd be astonished if even Brown would play him however. Well OK, perhaps "astonished" isnt quite the word.

laugh.gif

Use of the word "if" means that him getting a game would depend on one or more things happening. Things like Brown signing him and picking him to play.

If i had meant you'd signed him i'd have used the phrase "When he does get a game....."

Or he could play as a trialist .... ph34r.gif

Indeed - whooshed by sarcasm. wink.gif

Never be astonished by what Broon does in terms of putting a team on the park. He seems to have two hats. He picks the names from one and positions from the other.

Should Alex Rae sign for us (and this is speculation), I reckon that Broon will give him a couple of games in goal as a warm up, then then try him in every defensive and midfield position before setting him up as a striking partner for Gary McSwegan.

For sure we will be relegated by then, but what the heck! All the Hoons will be happy. (Remember they are Hoons because these guys all remind me of Geoff Hoon, and nothing at all to do with the Ibrox related word that is now banned. wink.gif )

I'm sure Rae's signing policy may also have involved similar use of hats. One for injured players, and one for badly injured players.

I'm a bit surprised Brown has made a total arse of the Clyde job though. I thought he was doing alright as "the Geoff's" youth team, reserve or whatever coach.

God help you if Rae takes over.
