Greetings friends,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if anyone has gone up in the play offs without actually winning a game in them?

i.e. 0-0 semi first leg at home

1-1 semi second leg through on away goals

0-0 aet in final win on spot kicks

It may have happened last year and I am ignorant, just a thought I had the other day if a few teams have done it?

At the end of season 2006-07, The Albion were promoted after drawing away and winning at home in the semi and then drawing at home and winning away in the final.

So not us.

I don't think away goals count double in the play-offs, in that case it would have be two draws and a penalty shoot-out win in the semis and the final.

You are correct. Away goals do not count for anything extra in the playoffs. To go through without winning a game you'd need to draw all four matches and win two penalty shoot outs.

Note that the final is also a two legged affair incidentally. The original questioner appears to think it's a one off game.

I think the original questioner believes we have exactly the same system as in England laugh.gif. If only.

Sorry I realise it's different in Scotland but the question was mainly based on the English playoffs. I couldn't cast my mind back as far as when they begun down here. I didn't think there was a cse of this in Scotland as it's only been going a couple of seasons.

Well Sunderland are the only team to be promoted without winning the play-off final after Swindon were refused promotion for financial irregularities.
