He looked really, really good two or three years ago before the injuries. I had heard he was done though. Perhaps one of the Rangers fans will confirm.

Clyde launched a similarly audacious bid to capture him on loan under Graham Roberts as I remember. Along with Ross McCormack and another Ibrox youngster, Burke perhaps?
Cracking player. If he was fit and getting regular action for Rangers he would be on the peripheries of the Scotland squad no doubt. Ear marked, certainly, to compete in future for the left back spot.
Well above the first division in terms of ability.

He played against us last season in one or both of the Scottish cup games, looks a good player. Looked excellent prospect before he got injured, hope he can get back to his best because we've no other real replacements for Naysmith for Scotland.
Can't see him going to play in the first division though.

Bless the lad, but if he gets anywhere near the Scotland B squad you'll know there's been a pandemic of typhoid.
If he's anywhere near the level he was before the injuries, it would be a signing of magnitude. I seem to remember in the gossip columns though that Watty had told him he was free to leave.
Hopefully he gets back to the level he was at, at either StJohnstone or Rangers because he was a shoe in for the Scotland left back slot.

True indeed. It does seem unlikely however.
I suppose in one way it would suit rangers as well; they only lose him for 2 months and he gets back up to match speed. It would be great to have a decent, if not better than decent, natural left back at Mcdiarmid though.

Since I doubt that's the case, it must just be a pure nugget of essential, A Priori knowledge that Reynard plucked fully formed from our collective consciousness in a moment where he was so in tune with nature he transcended his phsyical being and actually became, for the briefest of moments, the concept of "truth".
Either that or it's merely speculation on his part.

Im not saying this will happen, but given its only for two months, its unlikely but not completely impossible he would come to saints.

Would he be able to outside the transfer window? He would be able to move in Scotland on "emergency loan" hence the deal would only be two months. Or has my legal knowledge failed me?!

Hopefully he will become a Saint even if just for a limited time. Wouldn't be the first time a Rangers player has come down ro Div 1. McGregor's spell at Saints kept us up that year and Charlie Adams time in Paisley helped get St Mirren promoted.
A two month loan deal till the New Year would hopefully get us the gap from the rest to make it a relaxing early 2009 for Del's boys.

It's a bit different in Smith's case. He was an established first-team player whose career's been hampered by injury. Doesn't mean he won't go on loan to Saints, though.

It would be a 2 month emergency loan if it were to happen, meaning he could go to a championship team in January with a little more match practice and so could be considered for a first team place right away. Rangers get a chance to see if he still has it with us, and we benefit from having a natural left full back. Everyone would be a winner!
We'll most definitely sign a full back in January anyway, so the short term nature of the deal would suit all parties.
Saying all that, I'm not convinced we'll actually bring him in.

I would imagine
IF smith does come to the club then Craig would move into the midfield role and Peanut, Craig, Swankie, Moon, Morris (and too a lesser extent Morgan and McKoy) would fight it out for the two mifield role beside Millar and Hardie (at the moment). i think it'd be a nice dilema to have.

It only makes sense for Smith to move and continue his re-hab if he is going to get a game. He is probably guaranteed (part of the deal?) to get played week in, week out with Saints if he is fit. That won't happen in England.

Nope, he's expected to see out his contract - although he is available on loan. I have no idea whether he's a gimp (that's not really my scene) but he's certainly still got pace.
