St Johnstone boss Derek McInnes has won the Irn Bru Phenomenal First Division manager of the month award for October.

McInnes guided Saints to the top of the league following four wins in a row in October over Dunfermline, Partick Thistle, Livingston and Airdrie United.

And striker Steven Milne picks up the player prize for his contribution to the Perth side's fine run of form.

Well deserved, hope we can avoid the curse against Clyde who normally give us a good game.

Fear not, they actually got the awards at the tail end of last week, so the curse should have struck yesterday!

Pretty much a no brainer on both counts. McInnes and McIntyre both had 100% records but Saints played an extra game and Milne scored in every game during the month, including a double against Airdrie. They get the awards wrong on plenty of occasions though, the result being the accolades have very little credibility IMO.

Still, well done to both of them.

That is an outrage! We should have won, it's a no brainer.

Surely you must beat us, if you don't then ... laugh.gif laugh.gif

I'm pleased for both McInnes and Milne. Excellent stuff.

What's happened with the turn around at St Johnstone they were dreadful at Firhill earlier this season. I wasn't at McDiarmid when you gubbed us few weeks past so I haven't seen it for myself. Got good players there so was it just a bad run start of season?

Dominic Shimmin wins the young player award, no brainer really. tongue.gif

If you listen to the players, it was simply a case of not working hard enough on both the training ground and the pitch come Saturday. I think (pure speculation) that there wasn't enough emphasis on the fitness side of things pre-season and that coupled with not being able to put out a settled side in either the friendlies or in the opening matches meant that despite having good players, they weren't performing as a team.

Whatever McInnes and Docherty did with them over the international break at the start of September has worked though. 22 points out of 24 available since then and after conceding 10 goals in 3 league games prior to the break, we've only conceded 6 in the last 8 matches.

Simply started grinding out results. Seems we discovered no one in the division is going to sit and let us play football. I dont think we have been terrific in a footballing sense in most the games we have won, but we are winning. We have also stopped throwing away stupid goals......for the most part!

Who's to say your weak start will not turn into a weak season?

You've won a game against Dunfermline so what, now your season has magically turned itself around I guess?

Not only that but it was a marginal victory.

I don't know if it's a Dundonian thing (I notice Muggy used it the other day), but the 'word' 'yous' does not exist. I always thought it was something used primarily by those is west central Scotland, but it appears I was wrong.

Why 2007? Why not 2006?

Your weak start? What about our weak start? You say that as though we have been playing well all season. We haven't. Indeed, we were behind Dundee after our poor form in the early weeks of the season. I bet you dread to think how far ahead we might've been right now had we played well from the start. wink.gif
