LIVINGSTON boss Roberto Landi has confirmed this evening that young forward Leigh Griffiths will require his second operation of the season after picking up an injury to his left knee.
Sparky is due to go under the knife again next Monday after suffering a similar injury to the one his right knee was operated upon for only a few months ago.
The exact cause of Leigh's injury is unknown after he broke down in training, but Landi puts it down to the striker being put through too much work too soon after returning from his previous operation.
"Griffiths went to play for the Scotland U19's in Hungary very soon after he came back from injury." said Landi, "He came on for us against Queen of the South as a sub and then he went away to play for Scotland.
"Then he played 50 minutes against San Marino and played from the start in the other two matches, so he played three games in six days.
"It is my opinion this is why he may be injured now, he played too much. But I cannot back this up with fact.
"It was obvious to me when he played the second half against Morton he wasn't ready to play too much, but he came on and tried his best.
"When you come back from a big injury and have an operation in the knee like Sparky did - and after being out for four weeks before training, then playing as a sub for us, then going to play for Scotland, then playing for us again from the bench, it is a lot of stress on his body.
"I can't rewind the tape though and prevent it from happening, so we will just have to cope without him and hope he recovers better this time."

I don't think he will be rushed back. Going away with the international squad when he did was not ideal either.
