EAST OF SCOTLAND FIRST DIVISION

The Albert ended up a poor second best against fellow strugglers Eyemouth on Saturday, and were simply not good enough in what turned out to be a woeful match.United are a very ordinary side, but the Fishermen nevertheless managed to stick four past an all-at-sea Hawick outfit who sank without trace.

Albert manager Prof Blaikie was bitterly disappointed with his team's performance and told the Hawick News: "I am absolutely gutted. We have been beaten by bigger scores since I became manager but this defeat has hurt the most, as Eyemouth are anything but a great team. So it shows just how bad we were.

"In the second half we were just terrible. We lost all our shape and just didn't play atall. It was a shocking show."

Blaikie had promised to bring in new players, and they arrived. Hawick Waverley goalkeeper Steven Walker was in between the sticks, with another Waverley man Stuart Drysdale also in the starting line-up. Berwick United's Chris Falconer, and Paul Glynn from Midlothian amateur football were on the bench.

The Albert's freshened-up side started off well enough and after Andrew Hamilton had blazed wide following good play by Alan Campbell and Gareth Watson, Derrick Stavert had a goal-bound header blocked by United defender John Buchan.

Darren Gillan then should have put Eyemouth ahead when he found himself in the clear, only to finish poorly with a weak shot straight at Walker.
In the 24th minute, it was Royalists who broke the deadlock. On finding space down the left from a Stuart Drysdale pass, Hamilton unleashed a rasping drive which soared into the net via a deflection off United's Alan Spiers.

Apart from Walker impressing by tipping away a Gillan header from a James Wilkinson cross, the remainder of the first period conjured up
nothing else.

Following the changeover Eyemouth started to breath some much-needed life into the game, and John Crawford drove and Andrew Hastie pass into the side netting, while Gillan then fluffed a great chance.

In the 59th minute, however, United drew level when Crawford was brought down in the box by Steven Noble. Referee Andy Rooney pointed to the spot and Crawford stuck away the resultant penalty.

With 71 minutes gone, Crawford got his name on the scoresheet again with a well-struck shot after running onto a long through-ball from Spiers. Two minutes later Wilkinson put United further in front by slotting a David Aitchison pass out of the reach of Walker.

Royalists were then unfortunate not to reduce the leeway when Hamilton hit the upright with a header.

Eyemouth replied by notching a fourth. Michael Wales swung over a cross and substitute Duncan Aitchison, who was just on the park, produced the scoring touch with a header.

Just on time United keeper Gary Cowan did well to keep his goal intact by diving to the right to tip a Stavert effort round the post.

HAWICK ROYAL ALBERT: Walker, Urey, Campbell, Wright, Noble, Clark (Jackson), Watson, Stavert, Hamilton, D. Knox (Falconer), Drysdale (G. Knox).

Can someone tell me were Eyemouth United are fellow strugglers wi Hawick about !!!! Eyemouth have let in 6 goals (GD +1) were Hawick have in 36 goals (GD -30).
